First off this is not a COVID denier thread.

But I’m wondering what was the weird things you did at the start of the pandemic because you were worried about CV. I’ll go first;

Left my shoes outside the house as was worried about bringing the virus ‘in’ in case someone had coughed on the pavement !

Bleached the door handles daily.

Feel like I was a bit crazy now 😂😭

Took my teenage son grocery shopping with me when the first lockdown came in and everyone was panic buying

Not to help carry it, but in case he needed to fight Grin

Washing the shopping. A whole three-week delivery.

winniesanderson · 13/01/2022 22:12

We lived near a school, separated only by a lane (popular with dog walkers) with gardens one one side and a 6 foot+ fence on the school side. When we went for our once a day walk I would be panicking that my children would touch the fence incase it had covid on it. Many words were had Blush particularly with my eldest who used to like to spin alongside the fence pre-covid. I look back with a lot of guilt about how paranoid I was. Also prone to pushing crossing buttons with my baby finger and gates etc with the base of my palm as these were the least likely parts of my hands to go into my mouth. I look back and wonder what on earth I was thinking.

Bought 5 packs of anti bacterial wipes. I don't typically use wipes as they are not as environmental as a cloth and reusable bottle already. Now don't know what to do with all these wipes!

Gingerkittykat · 13/01/2022 22:13

@NiceShrubbery

Bought 4x crappy Virus shield snood/face mask things off the internet for 20quid. They are crap and very uncomfortable, never used them; hopefully they've made their millions and stopped making them now
I bought two of those too, when I complained to them that they were rubbish they did refund me so all was not lost.

I remember me and DD jumped into the car as soon as Boris announced lockdown and filled the car up in case of shortages. I then went to the supermarket and came home and stripped off and showered.

I used to go to the beach at 5am for my allowed exercise and would freak out about the fact I needed to open a gate to cross the railway line to get to the beach.

Petrol pumps still freak me out.

Fudgein · 13/01/2022 22:13

Went out for one walk a day.
Drove about half an hour away after my mum died suddenly and was stopped by the police and told I was outwith my local area. To be fair once I explained I was alone, and just needed 10 minutes to scatter some ashes, they reluctantly 'let me' go but told me to hurry up. I remember the sheer panic when they pulled me over of realising I had broken the law. I am an intelligent, law abiding citizen and now I am so bloody angry at how we have all been treated by this government. Telling my sister I couldn't meet her as I had already been out that day. Arranging my mums funeral over facetime as we couldn't meet in person. Horrendous.

thepeopleversuswork · 13/01/2022 22:14

At the height of the panic, in April 2020, I was actually crossing the road in our suburban backroads when people came towards me. With a mask on. Outside. Seems insane to read that back now but that's kind of how people were in those days.

I also wiped down and sanitised shopping for months and I was spraying my phone with antibac every time I went in and out of the house.

Oh, behave! Nobody knew anything about covid at the time. It was scary.

Don’t tell me? You were bowling about mingling and licking peoples faces to prove you aren’t one of the ‘sheeple’?

sachaf08 · 13/01/2022 22:15

I remember going to the supermarket on the way back from my daily run/walk so that I wouldn’t go out twice. And I remember when everyone went outside to watch whatever it was going past at night in the sky (ISS?), the security guard in our communal outdoor space was so agitated at the sight of a couple of dozen people stood nowhere near each other outside.

A slightly upsetting one was telling my mum I was pregnant in early June 2020 when we were finally able to meet up, and her going to hug me but pulling herself back because we were supposed to be distanced. Seems absurd now that we didn’t hug! I was petrified that I would give her covid but looking back, the chances of that were basically zero because none of us had been anywhere in weeks Confused

AgnesNaismith · 13/01/2022 22:15

I found out that citronodiol was sprayed on the army when they were looking after SARS patients…so I bought a shit load and sprayed the children with it before they went back to school for 2 weeks/1 day in summer 2020. I also gave them cold/flu nasal blocker in their noses and took off all their clothes the minute they walked in the door (sent straight for shower) and sprayed their belongings with clinical grade virus killing spray.

Sorry kids.

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:15

Oh yes! Washing shopping 🤣🤣.

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:16

Oh gosh Agnes all those chemicals!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/01/2022 22:16

Fell out with a guy who was out for a run and clearly trying to get a PB, he ran right into my two small kids then stopped directly in front of us, hands in knees, huffing and puffing (this was early lockdown when everyone was properly distancing on paths and everything).

Now that I've written it I still think he was being a dick Grin

bellalou1234 · 13/01/2022 22:16

When they said you could only see people from your household.. I met my dm who lives alone and struggled with being isolated nevermind a pandemic for a socially distanced walk, for some reason she came dressed for the artic ugg boots, quilted coat, shopping bag.. it was a hot day.. then the whole clapping at 7 or 8, for the nhs, neighbours had pots and pans out! As an nhs nurse I found it crigeworthy

Normski67 · 13/01/2022 22:16

I washed the soles of my shoes with a bleach solution after going outside. In my defence in an CEV and read that’s what they were doing in Spain. I quickly realised I would go batshit crazy doing shit like this and my MH wouldn’t hold up if I went down this avenue.

Namechangedforspooky · 13/01/2022 22:17

Not wearing masks in the covid area at work. It was a few days before the schools shut and I had people in my face with covid symptoms all day long. Working in a small enclosed space with no windows and no chance of distancing.
In my defence we had very little in the way of PPE as it kept running out and we had been told we weren’t allowed to wear masks unless actually in a cubicle with a patient.
How I didn’t get covid was beyond me!

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:18

Fudgin that's awful! Flowers unfortunately it was a few zealous police that enforced that kind of thing. It wasn't actual rules.

DotBall · 13/01/2022 22:19

Wore gloves to do the shop at Sainsbury’s.

Auntieobem · 13/01/2022 22:19

Almost fell out with a colleague (nhs) over a couple of boxes of face masks. Met with someone e who knew someone in China who could get us about 5000 masks for an absolute fortune (didn't follow that up)

AgnesNaismith · 13/01/2022 22:20

I know @JanuaryBluehoo the citronioldiol (still can’t spell it) is natural at least! I also felt happy the nasal blocker had been tested for flu/cold and the spray wasn’t used on them, just belongings. Still crazy though. I still get upset when people get too close to me…might have happened pre-pandemic too.

sachaf08 · 13/01/2022 22:20

Just remembered another one that was complete insanity. My building of 60 flats had a WhatsApp group created when covid hit, and we were sent a message one day informing us that we would need to carry around proof of residence outside the building (the flat was in a quayside complex with lots of similar apartment buildings).

The message said we would be stopped by security and asked to provide proof that we lived there- in a completely public space that ANYONE could walk through whenever they wanted, lockdown or not! When a couple of us challenged the man who posted this, he did the most spectacular flounce out of the group Grin

LemonDrizzles · 13/01/2022 22:20

I have those clear masks too. Do I bin them or keep when frying food to stop flying oil specks burning face?

BeeDavis · 13/01/2022 22:20

I genuinely cannot believe people washed their shopping.
