First off this is not a COVID denier thread.

But I’m wondering what was the weird things you did at the start of the pandemic because you were worried about CV. I’ll go first;

Left my shoes outside the house as was worried about bringing the virus ‘in’ in case someone had coughed on the pavement !

Bleached the door handles daily.

Feel like I was a bit crazy now 😂😭

Anything that came into the house - post, shopping, Amazon deliveries - had to go in the garage to quarantine for 3 days.

We kept our dressing gowns by the bsvk door. Anyone who had been inside with people eg school, work, had to come in the back door, strip off, and go for a shower straight away.

Fetchthevet · 14/01/2022 07:01

Ordered a pack of 12 toilet rolls off Amazon in a panic as we only had 2 rolls left and I couldn't find any in the shops. When they came they were all tiny, about 5cm tall. Felt v embarrassed but they did keep us going for a few extra days...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/01/2022 07:02

I didn't do anything. Was never really scared of Covid. I did get pissed off at hearing teens meeting up outside my flat and considered reporting them to the police, which is something I'd never normally do. But that was due to my incredible frustration at being stuck in a flat with a young child 23 hours a day following the "rules." Never again.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/01/2022 07:03

Oh I did buy about 4 bags of flour because the shops kept running out, I never even use it! They ended up getting binned. Absolute waste.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 14/01/2022 07:08

Nothing.

But I think it's interesting that so many people are now admitting they went "hugely OTT" and "behaved ridiculously",

Back in March 2020, people were absolutely horrible to anyone who dared to say that they didn't wash their shopping or wear gloves to fill the car up or wash door handles.

I wonder if there's a crossover and if anyone feels guilty about how nastily they spoke to people back then.

transformandriseup · 14/01/2022 07:11

We followed the rules about going for one walk a day in our very quiet village. We took it in turns to take the baby out in the pram so she could nap and I remember being paranoid that if I took her out twice in one day I would be reported.

Yep. I'm a single parent and had to take DS with me when I went to the supermarket. Some people on here thought taking children to the supermarket was terrible and that everyone should just get someone to bring them shopping round (like it's that easy). Children were treated disgustingly then and it's shocking that people thought they should be shut away all day.
transformandriseup · 14/01/2022 07:16

We live in a seaside town, 5 mins in the car we would be at the beach. But we didn't go for the entire first lockdown because we were all told not to drive!! It is a little bit far to walk as we had a just 2 year old so we never went to the beach for months.

Same with us but I remember there being a sign at the beach car park saying

Closed. Do not use this car park/beach for you daily exercise.

It wasn't a council sign but one locals had put up. It seems really nasty looking back.

Rosemary88 · 14/01/2022 07:30

My friend still does all these things sadly....washing shopping, making partner change when home from work, not allowing childs bookbag in the house and quantining christmas presents.
It's so sad how its affected her life and I can't see how she can get back to normal.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/01/2022 07:32

We have a little Tesco local about 1/4 mile away. I went in about three weeks into lockdown (that really sunny Easter), before they’d put in one way arrows etc and felt it was a bit busy and crowded. So I didn’t go again for about 3 months, instead I drove 10 miles to the nearest town to go to a bigger supermarket for more space.

ashorterday · 14/01/2022 07:37

@Workinghardeveryday

This thread is weird for me! I still wash all my shopping, don’t put petrol in the car - because I don’t go anywhere.

Don’t see family or friends other than dp and kids and haven’t all this time. No one has been in our house apart from tradesmen and I stayed upstairs the whole time.

Stayed home for Christmas - again.

Daft thing is kids are at school and loads of kids off with it.

I am CEV so I don’t know what else to do?!

You really don't need to wash your shopping.

Genuine question, at what point are you going to get on with your life?

There have always been colds/flu/bugs that could cause more harm to a CEV person, and it seems clear omicron is pretty mild to someone who's vaccinated, so it may as well be now 🤷🏼‍♀️

meteoric · 14/01/2022 07:41

I've had contamination OCD for as long as I can remember. Sadly I still do some of these more "extreme" things, although I'm getting a bit better and forcing myself to do things that scare me more.

For me though the fear wasn't really just about covid, it was any virus or bug or illness, and I was already on edge about things like door handles and contamination long before it began.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/01/2022 07:48

My personal crazy way of thinking during the lockdowns was thinking I’d make a success of home learning.

On a serious note, the craziest thing looking back was when I was sitting in my closed coffee shop, it was the day before the announcement but we were refusing to open because we felt unsafe. Sitting there in darkness awaiting instructions from head office on what to do with all the perishables whilst people rattled the door trying to get in.

Zara2008 · 14/01/2022 07:50

I didn't do anything. I followed 'the rules' on mixing but I didn't do anything extra other than washing my hands a bit more regularly. But I've always felt that regular hand washing is a good defence against bugs.

Never did the whole washing my shopping or stripping off when I got home.

I think it's disgusting the way the government terrorised the public so much so that people were and still are afraid to send their children to school, or are quarantining their post, or afraid to go out when being outside is so good for your well-being.

The handling has been a disgrace in many ways, and I hope that people look back on this time and learn from it.

Changeforthis79 · 14/01/2022 07:51

Participated in the enforced clapping!

VelvetChairGirl · 14/01/2022 07:52

We stayed indoors until september it was wonderful so relaxing and peaceful, we got shopping delivered from iceland.

I have always disinfected shopping when I get home, have you lot ever seen what a warehouse/storeroom looks like? how can you not clean your shopping when it may have had a rodent or cockroach sat on it and it handled by people who never wash their hands.

I have always taken my shoes off at the door I was raised that way no shoes in the house.

I have always had a distinction between indoor and outdoor clothing, changing them when I get home, the only difference is I used to put the clothing in the airing cupboard in the hall, now I dump it next to the front door and wear the same thing for weeks because thers not enough room by the door for multiple outfits.

CookPassBabtridge · 14/01/2022 07:52

Wiped down the groceries, door handles and left shoes in porch 😂😂
I feel really daft now.

gogohm · 14/01/2022 07:54

Personally nothing because I caught covid in mid March 2020 and it was very mild (only a bit tired and lost taste/smell no other symptoms but dp had a temperature as well plus did test positive on an antibody test in June for the plasma trial) I admit to laughing at the bizarre behaviour I sawWink. Best thing was a person in full nuclear biological chemical warfare suit in lidl - full body encased and a powered respirator! The leaping into the road so they didn't pass you was amusing to me too. I'm pretty laid back about everything still, I'm fully vaxxed and boosted of course.

I'm middle aged and overweight so can only speculate why i wasn't sicker, that I had just been overseas to a long haul beach holiday we wonder?

I've never washed shopping in my life and I'm hardly ever ill so I don't think it's necessary. That's why I don't wash it. Waste of time.
lololololollll · 14/01/2022 07:57

I'm too embarrassed to say but my god I can't believe how scared I was compared to now when I'm practically begging to get it so it's done with and am not in the slightest bit concerned that I will be badly

TheFishWillSeeYouNow · 14/01/2022 07:57

I saw someone going through Heathrow in a biohazard suit in September 2020Grin

ashorterday · 14/01/2022 07:58

This has just reminded me of a friend of mine who is classed as cev but fit as a fiddle and used to walk miles every day - she got a letter to shield and stayed in the whole time, didn't even go for walks. She did laps round her tiny garden.

The enforced staying in with no exercise was far more harmful to her health and I tried to encourage her to go out for walks but she was convinced she would be arrested.

Toanewstart22 · 14/01/2022 08:00

Nothing

From the very start I listened to news and realised that for overwhelming majority - not at all serious.

No bleaching and so social distancing with my family and close friends.

I didn’t get. Those that did - very mildly.

Would have been different if had any vulnerable family or friends though

MajorCarolDanvers · 14/01/2022 08:00

Wearing clothes to press the button at pedestrian crossings was about it for me.

TheCatShatInTheHat · 14/01/2022 08:04

I (CEV) didn't leave the house and didn't see my DP for 3 months.

Getting Covid at the back end of 2020 was the best thing that could have happened to me.
