Not seen neighbours in weeks lights and heating on

Been thinking to myself the last week or so how weird it is that we haven't seen the neighbours in weeks probably coming up to a month now. Every single light on in the house and heating on all day and night.

They have had lots of police involvement in the past, she had 4 older children with learning difficulties police were being called out so many times a week. Her children are normally jumping on the car roof slamming doors etc. Not seen or heard a peep from them since mid December. I always felt sorry for her because it seemed like she couldn't cope with all of them in that small house they were running her ragged.

I knocked on yesterday morning and obviously no answer, is this something you would report to the police or just leave it?

How frustrating. 😕

StrangerThanSpring · 15/01/2022 10:00

Can you see in any other windows than the kitchen?

AnxiousHeffalump · 15/01/2022 10:09

What a worrying situation. I’m surprised that no one has called around to check on them.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/01/2022 10:26

perhaps she has been rehoused and the ha do not have the necessary staff to do a clear out

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/01/2022 10:27

did you hear from ha op?

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/01/2022 10:30

You would think they'd send someone round to turn the lights off, though. I would also think they'd want to repossess the house for another tenant.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/01/2022 10:31

yes but staff isolating?

thereisonlyoneofme · 15/01/2022 10:35

They have possibly done a flit and left the heating and lights on as a "revenge" on the housing association who would presumably have to pay the bill?

Dancingsmile · 15/01/2022 14:13

You'd have thought they'd have sent someone to look by now. Perhaps they have got in contact with the landlord and the police have an answer already.

GrannytoaUnicorn · 15/01/2022 14:45

@Gargellen

I would ask the police to do a welfare check.

Reminds me of the woman that had been dead in her flat for four years with the telly going day and night. The neighbours said that in retrospect, it did seem odd.

She was only discovered because her bank account had run out of money for her rent payments to fail.

Oh the poor, poor woman. She must've been skeletal by that point.... Poor workers who have to find people like that also :( ✝️

@LampLighter414

Evicted and left all the utilities on to waste the housing association's money?
How would utilities cost the Housing Association money?!?! 🤣 Are you one of those people who think utilities are free to those in social housing?!?! THEY ARE NOT!
GrannytoaUnicorn · 15/01/2022 14:54

@AdviceNeeded367 I was told by a welfare rights worker who was helping me when I faced eviction due to rent arrears, if you get evicted through rent arrears, you’re essentially making yourself intentionally homeless and so the council do not have to regime you. It was a very scary time (through my own stupidity for not paying the rent) and luckily someone loaned me the money to clear my arrears (and avoid eviction!) before the eviction day.

This is absolutely incorrect

Yes, for reporting it. I hope it turns out to be nothing awful.

JustLyra · 15/01/2022 16:09

HAs are responsible, like landlords, for any utilities used in void periods.

namechanging21 · 15/01/2022 17:19

I'd pay my neighbours utilities if only the twats would vanish into thin air.

I dont know about HA but my brother is a landlord and I asedhim, he says he wouldn't be responsible in this situation as the utilities would still be in the tenants name
stillwaitingonaring · 15/01/2022 17:42

Haven't heard from housing association or the police. I've just came back in from being out today and OH noticed their was a little gap in the car door so he tried the handle The door is bloody open on the car! Their was some photos by the bottom of the stairs aswell so maybe they packed up left and forgot them.

I am going to ring 101 now see if they will tell me anything.

Thats strange about the car. Fingers crossed they give you some information

MadCattery · 15/01/2022 17:49

I don’t think you’re being nosy. I think you’re being a decent human being. We had a lady a while back, about five miles from here, who died and no one noticed for a LONG time....
