Just being nosey tbh! In your current job what hours do you work? What’s your annual leave allowance? Main perks of the job?

OP posts:
KTyoupigeon · 12/01/2022 23:31

On duty 24/7 as a full time unpaid carer to daughter. No holidays, no pension.

Perks - I have an amazing relationship with my daughter.

Lillipops · 12/01/2022 23:37

Work 7.30-4.15 5 days but get every second Monday off. 35 days annual leave plus bank holidays. 5% additional salary for flexible benefits like pension etc, just got a 4.5% pay rise and a 6% bonus. Work from home permanently which saves me a fortune. Love my job and the perks are great 👍

FruityPolos · 12/01/2022 23:37

I work in HE, 0.5 FTE job share so 18.5 hours a week across 3 days. I do 9.30-4.30 so I can do the school drop off, they have been really flexible about hours which is great and just getting a job share agreed at a management level was a huge benefit. 15 days annual leave (30 x 0.5) + bank holidays + a week off between Christmas and New Year.

I would like to leave as my job share partner doesn't pull her weight but it's hard to find another flexible / part time role on a management salary.

For those with unlimited leave how does that work? Are there any rules / expectations? Do people take the pee? I would expect managing that to be a nightmare ....

Catra · 12/01/2022 23:39

I'm self-employed so don't get any holidays or perks except flexibility.

I currently work 2 hours every weekday evening from home teaching online, but I work several more hours around the ones I'm paid for doing prep.

I can't take on any more hours because I'm a carer to my disabled daughter and my DH works long hours (at least 80 per week).

It's been over a decade since I've worked full-time Mon-Fri for someone else. I definitely miss the paid holidays and good pension but I enjoy the work I do now far more.

Lemoncurds · 12/01/2022 23:40

@RomeosGone

8:15-4:30, 5 days 18 weeks holiday a year Free lunch, free wraparound care, free swimming/gym, subsidised school fees, subsidised accommodation, free branded winter coat and umbrellas etc

It's a sweet deal!

@RomeosGone

18 weeks holiday and all those freebies?!
What do you do??

NightLight2 · 13/01/2022 04:05

Admin at a uni, 28 hours/week which is considered an 80% role. 9-3pm ish over 5 days. Tenured. Have worked here for years so my leave allowance is 4-5 weeks each year, plus another two weeks are accrued each year as long service leave.

I currently have about 6 months of long service leave as full pay, or I can take it as 12 months at half pay.

Superannuation (what you call pension), is also very generous, and when I retire in 10 years aged 60 I’ll pretty much receive a similar payment each fortnight as to what I’m getting now until I die. When I die if DP is still alive he’ll continue to get half the payment.

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 13/01/2022 04:10

Work 40 hours typically but contracted Mon-Thurs and for 30 hours. Perks include up to 20% bonus, private health insurance, options to by discounted shares, 10% employer pension contributions, car allowance plus various like gym discounts etc. 28 days holiday as I’ve got more than 5 years service.

Darbs76 · 13/01/2022 06:58

36hrs (flexi, which is a perk), 30 days AL plus public holidays. Main perks of the job are the flexi, and the fact it’s very accommodating to family life, and the pension which is generous

cafesandbookshops · 13/01/2022 07:00

I am contracted for 35 hours per week but I work between 50-60 hours per week. The holidays are the main perk I guess. I get 13 weeks. I’m a teacher.

UserError012345 · 13/01/2022 07:01

P/T 27 hours per week - 9-2:30.
30 days holiday.
Can build flexi time. Last year built an additional 2 weeks.

MinnieMountain · 13/01/2022 07:12

19.5 hours a week.

Statutory minimum holiday but we can now “buy” 5 days extra.

They’re pretty flexible if I need to go to school events.

SpinsForGin · 13/01/2022 07:33

I work at a university. The main perks are:
Lots of flexibility
37 days annual leave plus Christmas and bank holidays
Decent pension

I work full time which is 37 hours but in reality I work more most weeks.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 13/01/2022 07:42

32.5hrs p/wk- that's a full time role at our place (excludes 1hr lunch)

32 days holiday + all Bank hols.

Employer contributes 21.6% to a final salary pension.

Service pay which is paid after 5 years and increases every 5 years.

pangolina · 13/01/2022 07:46

40 hrs per week, some shift work (eg a 5.30am start or 11pm finish). 32 days holiday. Main perks are, being a shareholder so getting dividends, decent annual payrise, decent Christmas bonus, free gym membership, aside from my one shift a week I can choose my own hours and manage them as I want, really nice colleagues and working environment, free tea and coffee and discount at the onsite restaurant.

reluctantbrit · 13/01/2022 07:55

Typical 9-5 office hours with hardly any overtime required, PT 4 days a week.

Annual leave is 80% of 28 days

Perks:
Final salary pension, good private health insurance for family, very understanding about family issues (and not just children, also partner and parents), decent compassinate leave and very accomodating with medical problems like paying full salary despite off for several weeks recovering from illnesses/operations.

Nice social events incl. fully paid Christmas party people acutally enjoy going to and a further annual allowance for team bonding we can use for whatever fancies us.

CJay81 · 13/01/2022 07:57

Retail.
30 hours a week plus a little paid overtime sometimes.
7 weeks holiday(1 week is due to long service)

Perks
8 mins walk
Decent food discounts
Flexible if I need time off for appointments etc
A good team of people.

stuntbubbles · 13/01/2022 08:06

8.30-5.30 three days a week, but flexible so can do those 8 hours any time – core is 10-4 but not really policed.

Perks are:
flexible environment and understanding about sick children, appointments, life!
Christmas shut-down without needing to use leave
Birthday off
Slow travel bonus leave if you holiday by train - you get the travel time off as well without needing to use leave
Company parties and events all paid for and very generously
10% bonus
Random bonuses, treats and rewards – eg cash for takeaway, £100 “for something nice” when a job’s well done

Downside: crap pension, intense workload during work hours and expectation of masses of overtime without TOIL or flexi build-up, also I hate it with every fibre of my being

violetbunny · 13/01/2022 08:30

I work 40 hours over 5 days a week.

Hours are somewhat flexible. I usually work 9am-5.30pm with a 30min break. However the job is across countries in different time zones and occasionally requires evening work, so it's no problem to start/finish a bit earlier or later if needed, or to start late if I worked late the night before.

25 days annual leave, plus public holidays and a day off for my birthday.

Perks - annual bonus, free products (that we manufacture), ability to purchase heavily discounted products from our factory, subsidised medical insurance (I'm not in the UK so no NHS).

PennyPinkPineapple · 13/01/2022 08:30

Construction. 47.5 hours a week, 26 days holiday a year.

Although I've just asked to reduce my weekly hours to 28.5 as I had a baby last year and want to spend more time with her.

whowhatwhen · 13/01/2022 08:33

Technology consulting, 40+ hours a week but flexibility within my day as long as the work is done to do drop off, have a pedicure/haircut etc if needed. Decent pension, private medical, dental, bonus scheme, 25 days hol (option buy an additional 10).

Elaine7878 · 13/01/2022 08:37

Some interesting replies. I love the perks where I am!
I work Mon-Friday 9.30 to 5.30. Hybrid once the office is open again. 1 day in a week.
28 days AL plus bank holidays. We normally get a few extra days during summer and the last week of December as paid time off too although not guaranteed.
Usual schemes like bike to work, cheap device insurance etc.
Decent pension.
Good level of health insurance and discounted options for partners too.
Good monthly travel allowance that increases with service.
We have a recognition award, you can nominate your peers each quarter and they get a £500 bonus for good work.
Free tea, coffee, soft drinks and beers and wine in the office. Free breakfast once a week and lunch once a week.
Discounts on restaurants near the office.
20% off hotel stays and discounts on car hire, museum visits etc if booked through work.
Cash back shopping scheme with a few hundred retailers. Offers every month on that.
Health and wellness allowance each month, starts at about £100 but increases with service. Can be spent on a range of things. Last year it paid for my gym membership, new trainers, decent gym kit, scented candles and some craft courses!

itwasntaparty · 13/01/2022 08:49

37.5 hours supposedly

25 days can buy or sell up to 5 each year. Base increases to 28 after 3 years and 30 after 10

Life insurance, critical illness, death in service benefit, private healthcare

Matched pension up to 10%

Main perk for me is it is fully flexible

itwasntaparty · 13/01/2022 08:52

@MrsAntonioConte

20 hours a week. Unlimited holiday. Free fruit and obviously free tea and coffee. Free private GP and healthcare for my family Free gym if wanted and £350 to spend on anything health and well-being related. They pay for my mobile phone every month (personal use).

The office shuts at 1pm on Fridays in the Summer and we get the paid afternoon off.

Aaaand I love my job Smile

And WFH too! But can go in the office if preferred.

How does unlimited holiday work?!
HardbackWriter · 13/01/2022 09:02

I had an ex who worked for a company who fancied themselves as being a bit like google, and offered complete flexibility over working hours and unlimited holiday. In practice people worked all the hours god sent and took barely any holiday (and only ever took holiday to go abroad).
