To get the bath mat wet

LadyinRead · 09/01/2022 19:25

Please help me settle this long running-dispute.

In my world, a bath mat is there for the purpose of dripping on after I step out of the shower/bath. So yes it gets wet. I then hang it up to dry after I'm finished standing on it.

Acoording to someone else, I am supposed to dry myself with a flannel before exiting the bath/shower so the bath mat remains dry.

I agree with your DH. I defy myself as much as possible before exiting the bath onto the mat. I find it gross standing on a very wet mat. Thankfully only DS doesn’t do this so it doen’t get that wet.

inheritancetrack · 09/01/2022 20:51

I dry off in the shower and put an extra towel over the bath mat to step out into to finish drying. If the bath mat is left really wet it get stepped on and you get wet slippers as it's a small bathroom

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/01/2022 20:51

You should dry your feet as you get out of the shower. My DH drives me mad getting the bath mat soaking wet

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 09/01/2022 20:54

OOH I have had this bastard argument with DH about the flannel! He says we should get the majority of the water off (from the shower,) with the flannel. And here's me with this bizarre, cock-eyed notion that this is what the TOWELS are for. Hmm

DigitalGhost · 09/01/2022 20:55

Just read this to my husband and he's like "well yeah why would you get it wet?"
Because that's what it's fucking for!!!! HmmHmm

Suzi888 · 09/01/2022 20:59

@Yika

No, you're very unreasonable. You towel dry before stepping onto the bath mat which is there to absorb the last vestiges of damp. A soaking bath mat is an abomination and very very wrong.
Agree ^ Very wrong indeed Grin.
Legoninjago1 · 09/01/2022 21:00

I think you should shower in flippers OP. That will solve it.

DerektheGoose · 09/01/2022 21:04

See it's one of those yawnsome threads where the OP never returns......

Pyracanth · 09/01/2022 21:05

My dad drilled it into me when i was young to dry myself as much as possible including my feet before I got out of the shower, so that’s what I do now, and my bathmat is there to keep my feet warm as my bathroom tiles are freezing!

godmum56 · 09/01/2022 21:11

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

and lounge around while you dry off a bit.
its lovely...warm robe, cup of coffee

Shuy yer face. Hmm This is a fascinating thread. Don't be all jell cuz you couldn't think of a thread so exciting. Grin

The only unreasonable thing about this, is that there are 12% of people who voted, who have actually said YABU Confused

RedskyThisNight · 09/01/2022 21:25

You should partially dry yourself (with a towel, how on earth would a flannel dry much of you) before stepping on the bath mat. So the bath mat gets slightly wet but not sodden. There is no way a bath mat that is more than very slightly damp will dry just hung up in our bathroom.

MamaWeasel · 09/01/2022 21:39

I'm a fan of flannelling off before the towel, else the towel gets sopping wet and we don't have a towel rail. But I freely admit that I am odd.

Surely, though, the whole purpose of a bath mat is to absorb water.....

inmyslippers · 09/01/2022 21:40

I towel down then stop out onto it

SquirrelFan · 09/01/2022 21:44

@godmum56 yes, one of them does have some kind of backing, but it's evidently not waterproof! The others we rotate through are made of towelling material.
Can I ask where everyone lives where a sodden bathmat will dry in an hour or so slung over the side of the bath?

Kshhuxnxk · 09/01/2022 21:46

Me - Use a flannel to take off most the water, then step onto the bath mat to totally dry off with a towel.

DP - Out the bath - slosh water everywhere, soak the bathmat, dry off enroute to the bedroom.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 09/01/2022 21:51

Surely it's to stand and dry your feet on so you don't slip on the floor once out of the shower or bath! I partially dry myself stood in the bath anyway but like shite am I going to be wobbling about, trying to dry my feet whilst standing in a slippery bath tub

echt · 09/01/2022 21:57

A tip given by my coal miner dad was to plane water off the body with the hands before getting out of the shower to get rid of excess.

Haffiana · 09/01/2022 22:05

What is all this drying with a flannel? Don't you have proper sized towels?

Zooforhouse · 09/01/2022 22:17

My husband thinks this. It’s madness.

Hemingwayscatz · 09/01/2022 22:19

It’s obviously there to stand on wet while you get dry, what else would it be there for? Confused

mdh2020 · 09/01/2022 22:22

I have a friend who comes to stay and asks for an extra towel which she puts on the bath mat

The only correct response to this is to laugh heartily and chuck a flannel at them

I want to know this too, flannels aren’t for drying yourself with & they’re tiny, how many do you need?? I’d need at least one per boob Grin
