To switch alcohol addiction to sparking water addiction?

Pikaso · 09/01/2022 16:11

I have an addictive personality and unfortunately one of my big addictions was alcohol. I’ve finally managed to ditch it but now I’m obsessed with carbonated water. I’m drinking gallons of the stuff, I’ve just drank a 1.5L bottle in the past hour and now I’m craving more.
I’m worried it’s bad for me?! Is it? Is it just water or have I switched one unhealthy habit for another?

It's better than booze, just watch your teeth apparently it isn't brilliant for them. I do love sparkling water.

GuckGuckDoose · 09/01/2022 16:18

Get yourself a sodastream (or an Arke carbonator if you’re feeling fancy) to negate the plastic waste, and then crack on 👍🏻

Whatayear81 · 09/01/2022 16:18

Op

It’s incomparable

Damn is it really bad for your teeth? Got to be better than wine and beer though surely?

Get yourself through the next few weeks
Drink as much sparkling water as you damn well want
Good luck

WakeUpLockie · 09/01/2022 16:19

Drink it through a straw if you’re worried. I’ve had a sparkling water addiction for years and my teeth are perfect :)

Anyone who comes to this thread and says anything other than

IT’S FINE

Is being utterly irresponsible and reckless with this OP’s life (and her family)

Op

What do you mean?

You are comparing an addiction to alcohol

To a addiction to sparkling water

Surely op I don’t need to tell you that they are so vastly different as to hardly dignify a response

I’m being serious

Child of an alcoholic

Down as much sparkling water to keep you going

lollipoprainbow · 09/01/2022 16:22

I'm trying to drink sparkling water during the week and alcohol only at weekends. I drink it from a wine glass so it feels like I'm having a glass of wine rather than water, makes it more bearable sort of !!

KittenCatcher · 09/01/2022 16:22

How much water do you think you are drinking in a day, you can drink too much but well done for stopping alcohol.

MsBananas · 09/01/2022 16:24

Of course it’s fine.

If, at a later date, you want to look at your addictive tendencies that’s a different kettle of fish. Bear in mind, though, most people have some addictive/compulsive behaviours, and the main issue is whether these are destructive or cause problems.

Alcohol is one of the most damaging and destructive addictions, so bloody well done on working on that and enjoy your sparkling water!

PinkSyCo · 09/01/2022 16:25

Plain carbonated water is not bad for your teeth OP so drink away. Congratulations on quitting the booze.

DrManhattan · 09/01/2022 16:25

This cannot be real? No one would think sparkling WATER is worse than alcohol.

Yes they could If they were an alcoholic and looking for an excuse
KittenCatcher · 09/01/2022 16:30

Do you have to be a bit careful about the sodium levels in bottled water

Stiffcondomhat · 09/01/2022 16:30

Sparkling water is bad for your teeth. I have erosion on mine as a result which I'll need fillings on when the pain gets unbearable. But as pps say, a million times healthier than alcohol addiction.

Pikaso · 09/01/2022 16:31

No definitely not looking for an excuse. I never want to touch alcohol again. I feel absolutely amazing since I stopped, I was so low on energy but thought it was my anaemia. Since I stopped drinking my energy and mood are at an all time high. I can’t believe the difference and I’m so bloody happy.

There is just a niggling voice telling me I’ve swapped one bad habit for another. I want to be healthy so badly.

Now is not the time to deal with drinking too much sparkling water

How long have you been sober?

Cameleongirl · 09/01/2022 16:32

I agree that sparkling water tastes abit special and I also substitute it for a glass of wine. Try mixing it with squash sometimes to change things up-I love a sparkling lemon or orange barley water.😄

Good luck, OP, we’re all rooting for you.💐

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/01/2022 16:32

Maybe your body is just craving loads of water after all the alcohol?

JanisMoplin · 09/01/2022 16:33

My DH is addicted to sparkling water. He doesn't drink at all though but he is diabetic and has to watch his snacking. The water appears to be a nervous habit.I guess there are worse things.

Restlessinthenorth · 09/01/2022 16:33

How much water are you drinking OP? It can be dangerous too drink too much water. Totally possible to dilute your electrolytes to a dangerous level. Read about hyponatremia. Well done on the booze but take it easy on the water!
