Inconsiderate Fuckers

My NDN drilling the adjoining wall to my bedroom (headboard side) at 8am this morning.

Wankers.

I thought you meant 'fuckers' literally and was tickled cos next door are currently audibly shagging and I'm trying to drown them out with the tumble dryer Grin Unfortunately our walls are like tissue paper so they're not being inconsiderate, just a feature of terraced house life...

I think 8am is a tad early for noisy weekend DIY, I'd say 9!

Fella who lives over the road loves using some kind of chainsaw at ungodly hours at the weekend. I dunno how much wood they go through in their log burner but it must be a lot.

@RB68

they have of course complied with any party wall requirements before commencing work ...
Party Wall Awards are nothing to do with drilling a hole in an adjoining wall.
Imayhaveerred · 08/01/2022 20:18

@Donatella

In our old house, our neighbours were sanding the (adjoining) living room wall for at least 6 months. By hand, not with an electrical sander. Not a loud noise to be fair, but oh so annoying. Every night. Shhshhshhshhhshh. Shhshhshhshhhshh. Shhhshhhshhhshhhshhh.
My neighbour did the same. I feel your pain.
Elieza · 08/01/2022 20:38

Look on your councils website and see what the rules are in your area.

It varies. Some allow on Sundays too I think. Best look. Then you will be armed with info if it happens again tomorrow.

Which would be?
ShinyMe · 08/01/2022 20:41

Were they drilling, or were they, you know, DRILLING?

Latenightreader · 08/01/2022 20:45

A few years back otherwise lovely neighbours got new a stair carpet on my first day off in 11 days and after a late meeting the night before. The (loud) work started at 7.30am. I was so upset at the noise I seriously considered going into work, but it was all quiet by 11am….

nightmarelife · 08/01/2022 21:57

@TheHoptimist

8am is fine surely?
Eh??!!? On a Saturday?? It's just not!! Ever!!
Plasmodesmata · 08/01/2022 22:16

We have late night drillers here. Usually about midnight. At one point I thought they were going to come through.

Japingjaponica · 09/01/2022 09:04

I did loads of DIY over Christmas break. I have some slackers one side who sleep till midday, and young kids the other side who go to bed at 7. It's difficult to get everything done, and you can't please everyone. In the end I pissed the slackers off because I started at 9 am

PragmaticWench · 09/01/2022 09:09

Ugh, my Dad would do this! So many times I've had to stop him doing noisy DIY or gardening at an ungodly hour of the morning and he has no comprehension as to why any of the neighbours might be bothered by it. Hmm

Dogscanteatonions · 09/01/2022 09:42

It might be allowed but it's hugely inconsiderate. It's just being a good neighbor to wait till after 10.

Brigante9 · 09/01/2022 09:43

I think 8 is a bit early for a weekend but our bin collection schedule was changed to Saturday as a one off this week so that got me up. I’d already been up at 6 to feed/toilet puppies and gone back to bed.

I echo checking the council website for guidance. Why start so early? It’s really inconsiderate.

Hawkins001 · 09/01/2022 10:02

Log burners can soon burn through quite a bit

Strugglingtodomybest · 09/01/2022 10:21

That is massively inconsiderate behaviour.

Maybe the 'slackers' just needed a rest over the Christmas break? Both me and DH took it in turns to sleep late over Christmas because we needed to recharge after a hellish couple of years at work. That doesn't make us slackers.

I've never understood why people judge others for having different sleeping patterns.

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 09/01/2022 10:28

8 am meh... From 6 am we have barking ddogs to deal with. Usually up til 10 am.. Local sea swimmers and their ddogs abandoned on the beach.. With the spotter I assume. Been rescued twice over Xmas and still swimming.
Have resorted to sleeping tablets such is the lack of sleep here..
Some people are just entitled twats. Ime.

liveforsummer · 09/01/2022 11:46

In what world is it ok to drill on to someones bedroom wall at 8am at the weekend. They are indeed inconsiderate fuckers and so are all the people that think it's ok. Just because you're half way through your day by then doesn't mean everyone is.

Joined4this · 09/01/2022 11:51

Put on some loud metal at top volume. Take yourself to a cafe. Buy a large, luxurious breakfast. Repeat until cf stops.

girlmom21 · 09/01/2022 12:02

@Flabbyflabberson

Anyone who thinks it's okay to drill before at least 11 on a weekend is a prick. Let people have some peace.
11? That must be a joke.
LakieLady · 09/01/2022 12:23

@SpinsForGin

Where I live, there are rules about this sort of things, which makes it all a lot clearer.

So do we and it states no noisy DIY before 9am even on a week day.

Bloody hell, I've just had a new bathroom put in and the plumber was here just after 8 every morning.

Same with the guys who fitted new windows a couple of years ago.

Both were very noisy jobs, but at least they'd all finished and fucked off by 3.30. Building supply companies often make noisy deliveries well before 8, too, which as fun as their lorries block our narrow road at just the time when a lot of people are trying to get to work in their cars. Anyone who struggles with doing a 5-point turn must be well pissed off.

And our bins/recycling lorries are here soon after 7, I know it's only 3 times a fortnight, but they are VERY noisy.

@Brigante9, YABVU to mention the p-word without posting a pic of them!
vivainsomnia · 09/01/2022 12:26

I wouldn't do it at 8am no easier than 9am, unless the neighbour regularly kept me up after 10pm or had kids constantly noisy, then I wouldn't care.
