How many times would you tell company about their mistake?

I ordered a table for my living room, it was on sale so even though it was a bit pricey I didn't feel too bad about ordering it. It was supposed to arrive before a gathering I was planning at my house but when I realised the order had been delayed and it wouldn't get here in time I cancelled it, thinking I could order a cheaper one later on.

Now six months later I've gotten an email that it's about to be delivered, even though I cancelled it. I thought maybe they hadn't updated the system and it was a mistake until I got another email asking me to choose a delivery date. In the meantime I didn't find another table that I liked as much so I decided that I would just accept the order and contact the company to let them know that it was still going to be delivered anyway and I would like to pay for it.

I contacted them to let them know what had happened, but they were adamant that i'd cancelled the order and there was nothing more to be done. I argued that I had actually been sent a delivery email that morning asking me to confirm the delivery day. There was a lot of back and forth before the agent then finally agreed that when the item was delivered, they'd get in touch in the next few working days about payment.

It's been a month now and nothing, part of me just wants to pay and get the whole thing over with but the other part is a bit frustrated about having to chase them up yet again and go through the argument of cancelled/not cancelled to get this all sorted out.

So in short, should I call up customer service again or wait for them to get back in touch with me?

Wait

strivingtosucceed · 08/01/2022 12:15

For how long?

The ball is in their court.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 08/01/2022 12:18

Enjoy your free table, if they are that incompetent and their customer service is that poor, that's on them. You've tried!

MatildaTheCat · 08/01/2022 12:25

@strivingtosucceed

For how long?
Ever.
BachAndByte · 08/01/2022 12:27

Do you have the table? If so, I’d just keep the money to one side and wait for them to contact you.

WomanStanleyWoman · 08/01/2022 12:28

Has the table actually arrived?

Skullycup45 · 08/01/2022 12:28

Have you received tne table or not? Your post isn't clear.

SummerInSun · 08/01/2022 12:38

What is wrong with people?!? If you've now got the table, ring them and pay - but make sure you only pay the sale price it was at when you originally ordered.

Call or email once to say "I have it, I'm sitting here with my credit card ready to give the payment details now". If they take payment, you are done. If they think it's all too complicated because their order system won't recognise the purchase or whatever, then I wouldn't chase with more calls, but you should give them one shot at knowing you have it and want to pay for it. Someone could get fired when they do their stock reconciliation if they think it's vanished and therefore been stolen eg by a delivery driver.

Mumsnet is funny. There is one thread telling someone they are wrong to not tread to the post office for a return and being labelled everything wrong with society but this thread a suggestion to make a phone call to pay. Then its a no way! Total opposites.

I think they are both on the companies that supplied them. Its their shoddy behaviour not on the consumer to chase. Life is stressful enough with mental loads.

I’d stick the money in an account somewhere so that I didn’t spend it, and would then wait (for as long as needed) for them to contact me for payment. I certainly wouldn’t actively try and get out of paying, but I wouldn’t spend my valuable time chasing them up in order to rectify their error.

SirChenjins · 08/01/2022 12:46

Presuming I had actually the table, that is.

melj1213 · 08/01/2022 12:47

If you have received the table I would send an email (paper trail) stating that you have received the table, are requesting an invoice so that it can be paid for and if they don't respond within X time (I'd say 30 days) then you will deem the matter settled in full.

Clarinet1 · 08/01/2022 12:54

Any lawyers around? It’s not exactly this situation but isn’t it the case that, if you receive unsolicited goods delivered to your home, the supplier has a certain length of time to collect them and, if they don’t the goods become yours? May have now been superseded though, that’s why I’m asking lawyers!

SoupDragon · 08/01/2022 12:55

I'd ring them once more and then put the money away somewhere so I wouldn't spend it and leave the ball in their court.

NichyNoo · 08/01/2022 12:59

I have similar with Boots. I ordered about £40 worth of stuff in their sale - mostly gift sets. The delivery was made and then a day later the exact same goods were delivered for a second time. I emailed them via their website on 28 December but not got a response yet. Annoyingly I don’t need a double order (I now have six sets of Joules lip balms for example) but I don’t really know what to do.

^This OP doesn't say whether table has arrived.
Skiptheheartsandflowers · 08/01/2022 13:03

The table will arrive as soon as you give in and buy a different table. That's how the universe works Smile

elelel · 08/01/2022 13:04

This thread is missing the absolute one piece of information need s before anyone can actually respond Hmm

Have you got the table?

refraction · 08/01/2022 13:12

I get the impression that the table has been delivered as they say its been a month now. If the table hadn't why would op post about paying?Confused

strivingtosucceed · 08/01/2022 14:03

Apologies, I received the table a month ago, two days after I contacted them about the cancelled delivery.

OP posts:
TestingTestingWonTooFree · 08/01/2022 14:06

I think if you’ve alerted them to the error and offered to pay, that’s sufficient.

MumW · 08/01/2022 14:14

If you sent an email explaining what has happened then sit tight, the balls in their court and you've covered your arse. If you spoke to someone, I would suggest emailing, again to put it in writing and covering your arse. It would show a definite intention to resolve the issue on your part, just speaking to someone may not be enough as you rely on someone else documenting the issue correctly, they balls it up it could bite you and take longer to resolve.
