to ask how on earth to take off wellies?

I have gorgeous new wellies, finally dry feet with dog walks after purchasing a few nice looking but clearly not actually waterproof boots.
But how the hell are you supposed to take them off after a walk with mud all over them. I don’t want to touch them with my hands to pull them off because of the aforementioned mud. Currently I’m doing a ridiculous hobbled dance using the front of one foot on the heel of the other to loosen them both & then shaking my leg around to free my foot! There must be another way!

Yeah you have to use an ‘edge’, I use the edg of the back door

FadedRed · 08/01/2022 11:15

You need a boot jack. Costs under a tenner.

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2022 11:16

Use the doorstep

ItsFuckingJuneDadQuickHide · 08/01/2022 11:17

You need a boot jack with a brush, get one from a garden centre

Bairnsmum05 · 08/01/2022 11:38

You need a Welly puller offer Smile

Get someone to spray the garden hose at you, this will clean your boots making them easy to pull off.

No down sides.

BoodleBug51 · 08/01/2022 11:43

Dd's boyfriend made me a boot jack after seeing me hopping around trying to get wellies off. It's magic, and you can just then pick them up from the top when you've got your foot out. We've got a wellie rack by the back door.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 08/01/2022 11:44

DS 10 informs me that he does exactly what you do. He's just come back from a residential trip where he wore his wellies a lot.

exexpat · 08/01/2022 11:48

Boot jack - just google. I have one of the beetle shaped ones but if I lived somewhere more rural I would get one with built in mud scraper and brushes.

NYnewstart · 08/01/2022 11:50

My plastic boot jack cost about a fiver.

purplesequins · 08/01/2022 11:51

you need a bootjack.

my sister had a steel one (local locksmith) built one in to the housewall by the back door/utility room together with a hose and drying rack.

MoiraNotRuby · 08/01/2022 11:53

I just use the edge of one foot to wiggle the other boot off. Very easy for the first boot and then don't take your foot out entirely. Put your foot down in the ankle section, remove second boot. Step second foot straight into shoe, step first foot into shoe.

UseOfWeapons · 08/01/2022 12:02

Boot jack. Ridiculously easy after that!

Angeldust747 · 08/01/2022 12:04

Boot jack!

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 08/01/2022 12:05

If you haven't learned it by now, there's no hope for you I'm afraid.

Chely · 08/01/2022 12:05

Put foot on heel of other and free it, once both heels are free you can easily slip feet out.

Lazylegend · 08/01/2022 12:06

Put wellie in a bag and pull off , whilst boot in carrier.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 08/01/2022 12:08

Just use the heel of one shoe to get the other one off. Don't pull your feet out completely until both heels are "free" from the welly.

I wear wellies daily with work, never had an issue doing this!

NewMamma21 · 08/01/2022 14:08

Boot jacks look like exactly what I need!!

I do the thing where you loosen one boot with the front of your other foot & don’t take your foot out completely so you can do the same with the other - that’s what creates the hobbled dance & then they are still difficult to pull off. I do usually have a baby attached to my front in a carrier too which doesn’t help matters.

I’m off to buy a boot Jack & one with the brush attachment will help the hubby with his muddy boots too
Thanks all!!

Boot jacks are great , and you are right to get one with a brush attachment .
Also , save your next washing up liquid bottle and fill it with water and a bit of soap and leave it next to your jack before you go out .
When you come back you can give your boots and the brush a squirt and get them clean before you take them off

NewMamma21 · 08/01/2022 14:50

Great idea, I have a bottle almost empty so will do this too!

You need a boot jack or (the step on the front door ledge )

Wingedharpy · 08/01/2022 14:55

I find the under butler useful for this sort of thing, though, it does make a mess of his white gloves.Wink

Newnamefor2022 · 08/01/2022 17:55

Boot jack. Iron one that lives in the garden, if you only wear wellies, wooden one if you need to remove leather riding boots too. Wink
