AIBU to play the main Star Wars theme, (and A Whole New World, and the Can Can.) to a bunch of Y3-5 girls? Would they know it? DH says they would't.

They would't recognise it = iabu

IANBU- your Yr 3- 5 primary yr group girls will know these. They will have been played at home ,parties, after sch friends play, at sch in class at xmas, halloween disco, elder sibling. . etc. These songs will be very familiar to KS1 and KS2 children generally.

The Can Can- personally no. Never included in sch settings. I have 2 grown up DC and work in a sch. Somehow the jaunt of the Can Can has never featured. Very popular in my day (70's & 80's) not worth it now in modern times, rightly for all it's associated connotations.

Perhaps a 1980's style innocent group "Jingo " caterpillar on the floor?

When we had to make a playlist for Y3 (7-8 year olds) recently the requested songs were:

Dance Monkey - Tones and I
Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles
Blinding Lights - The Weekend
Roar - Katy Perry
This is Me - Greatest Showman
Somebody You Loved - Lewis Capaldi
Happy - Pharrell Williams
Shotgun - George Ezra
Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars

Not sure how easy it would be for you to learn any of those!

scully29 · 07/01/2022 19:09

Oh yes sorry I thought aged 3-5 didnt see the y 3-5.Defo star wars, my ds took up brass when hearing star wars on brass. Frozen, moana or encanto. Harry Potter. Jungle Bells type Christmas songs.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/01/2022 19:11

If you can get a version of Baby Shark, you'll have instant recognisation and lots of groaning!

11112222 · 07/01/2022 19:11

Oooooooo - Let it Go!!!

If your sch are asking- you need to ensure that you have the read the lyrics and any possible connotations, that any music you play may involve.

We ( sch) had a halloween Disco last term, took us 2 full weeks to vet all the songs we eventually played.

Then we had to start again for KS1 and KS2 xmas dinner lunch soundtrack!

Music is minefield now!

Baby shark - Grin Shock

AppleButterfly · 07/01/2022 19:15

Some will, some won't.
I wouldn't recognise it. It really isn't age based.

scully29 · 07/01/2022 19:32

Defo babyshark and Let it Go.

MojoJojo71 · 07/01/2022 19:32

I don’t think my 9yo has heard the can can but she would definitely recognise the others

StarShapedWindow · 07/01/2022 19:35

My DD is 9 and would know all those songs

Xmasbaby11 · 07/01/2022 19:39

My dd are 7 and 9.

They would not know it. They haven't seen Star Wars and have no interest in that kind of thing.

RandomLondoner · 07/01/2022 19:46

My dog, he can do the can can,
better than the cat can, but my goldfish finds it very difficult.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 07/01/2022 21:31

My 10yos would recognise all of those. We love watching films together and they do dance. Probably only introduced Star Wars and of year 4.

UndertheCedartree · 07/01/2022 21:33

My 9yo DD would only know AWNW, I'm afraid.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/01/2022 21:33

DD y5/age 10 would only recognise Star Wars.

UndertheCedartree · 07/01/2022 21:36

I've just seen you'll be doing an activity with them at school. One of the things I really like about my DD's Music lessons at school is they get introduced to lots of different music. They are doing the Beatles at the moment. I don't think it matters if they know the tune or not - it will still be pretty amazing hearing the Star Wars theme played for them!

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 07/01/2022 21:59

Ah sorry, misread. Not age 3/4, year 3/4. If it's an introduction to brass then star wars is a good one, it's one they can learn pretty early on.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 07/01/2022 22:01

Or James bond theme and somewhere over the rainbow. Also Hedwigs theme from Harry Potter.

lanbro · 07/01/2022 22:05

Mine wouldn't (year 3 and 5). Something from Zombies, Greatest Showman or some Katy Perry definitely...although 8yo fave song at the moment is Fill Me In by Craig David Grin

Tuliprain · 07/01/2022 22:10

My 9 year old wouldn’t know.

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 07/01/2022 23:56

We used to have a group that came into school to do similar but on strings.

The Simpsons theme tune
Mission impossible
Simple nursery rhymes always went down well

FartVandelay · 07/01/2022 23:58

How about the pink panther theme?

minipie · 08/01/2022 01:23

No for my 9 yr old. Anything Disney would be a yes, plus Greatest Showman, Harry Potter tune, Baby Shark plus some tween pop like Katy Perry.
