AIBU to play the main Star Wars theme, (and A Whole New World, and the Can Can.) to a bunch of Y3-5 girls? Would they know it? DH says they would't.

They would't recognise it = iabu

I have a four year old and they would only recognise a whole new world from those songs. Sorry I'm with your DH!

scully29 · 07/01/2022 18:37

yes sorry, maybe the 5 year olds might know star wars? if they have older siblings? Mine defo wouldnt have known a whole new world or the can can. You want all the songs of Frozen, maybe Moana, and maybe Encanto now?

Chely · 07/01/2022 18:38

They may not recognise them but why does that matter? Play away!

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 07/01/2022 18:38

Same as above with my 5yo

cherryonthecakes · 07/01/2022 18:39

Y3-5 is age 7-10.

My dd wouldn't have known the can can but would know the other 2 songs

Sorry. Same as this comment.
CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 07/01/2022 18:39

DD is in Y2 and would recognise them. She walks around humming the Imperial March sometimes….

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/01/2022 18:39

Stars Wars.. she never heard
Aladdin.. shes knows
Can Can... not sure

Try Fun Kids Radio if you want to build a play list

Piccalino3 · 07/01/2022 18:39

I have a year 3 DD (almost 8) and she wouldn't recognise it, but we're not Star Wars fans in this house.

Horst · 07/01/2022 18:40

I don’t think any of my children 5-12 would know any of those songs.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 07/01/2022 18:41

I work in preschool with 3+4 year olds and they wouldn't know them. Maybe 1 or 2 might recognise A whole new world.

wineandchocolateforthewin · 07/01/2022 18:44

Mine would have no clue

11112222 · 07/01/2022 18:44

Thanks so far everyone.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about ages 7-10.

Any other suggestions of tunes they would like would be really helpful!

Sorry just spotted you said y3-5. My daughter is 5

Moonlaserbearwolf · 07/01/2022 18:46

For a disco or for a game where they have to recognise the song??
If the former then definitely play them. The can can is a great song and it takes about 10 seconds to get them all kicking their legs (we did this at Y3 disco). The conga was another good one - I'm sure some of our Y3s didn't know it, but they were soon dancing round the room in a long snake.

Atla · 07/01/2022 18:47

A whole new world and star wars 👍 no to can can

11112222 · 07/01/2022 18:48

I will be playing brass instruments to them.

it depends what the purpose of the music is - is it for a music quiz, a disco, karaoke?
OGenkiDesuKa · 07/01/2022 18:50

My 7 year old knows Star Wars and AWNW.

Other guys among her age group are the Ghostbusters theme, most Disney, greatest showman songs and Eurovision (the film).

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/01/2022 18:50

Can you play the Harry Potter theme on brass?

Most disney stuff would be ok.

MrsMonkeyBear · 07/01/2022 18:50

My DDs (4 & 7) know all 3 but that's because between myself and DH, we are massive Star Wars, Disney and 80s Ska Punk (Bad Manners) fans.

Kanaloa · 07/01/2022 18:52

It’s not really age based. Some kids might be really into Star Wars, some not so much.

Is it a paid thing/trying to get them to sign up for lessons? If so maybe it would be possible to contact the parents and ask what shows/music they might be into?

It’s just totally dependent on the group!

Moonlaserbearwolf · 07/01/2022 18:52

@11112222

I will be playing brass instruments to them.
Will they be just listening? Dancing? Answering questions? What's the purpose?
pompomsgalore · 07/01/2022 18:52

No way she's recognise them

11112222 · 07/01/2022 18:57

Sadly, due to covid, they will only be able to listen this time. The School have asked me to do it, but if I get more pupils, then great, but I already have a load there !

Usually, - pre covid - I got all the kids buzzing, and let a few have a go if they wanted to.

Greatest Showman would be good. Thanks.
