To not return it?

Ordered some new clothes from Zara, they got delivered at 9.30am according to yodel, but I was home then and nobody rang the doorbell or knocked on the door. I didn't get the email saying they had been delivered until 5.30pm that night and when I went straight out then to get it the box had been left just in my back garden, not in the empty wheely bin, or under the chairs, on the decking etc. There were multiple places it could of been kept dry, but it was just left on the patio and it rained all day and the entire box was soaking, the clothes were loose inside the box, not in a bag and both them and the tissue they were wrapped in up were completely soaked through, like I could ring the clothes out they were that wet.

I messaged Zara who were really apologetic and offered a refund or a replacement, but said if I want a refund I need to return the clothes to them. By the time I've returned them and received new ones I could of dried the original, the issue was the fact they weren't protected by the packaging or the delivery company. I said as much so they asked if to apologise for the inconvenience they offered to replace them, so I said yes. Then the next day I get an email that the replacement has been dispatched and to please return the faulty items to us within 7 days. I didn't realise this is what was arranged and I said no, I don't have a box to send them back in and the issue is the fact I received them soaking wet. They apologised and said if I want to keep my original order please return the replacement order they have posted out instead, but they need one of the orders returned to them.

I don't want to have to return anything! I live rurally and can't be arsed to have to get a bus to the nearest post office, pregnant with a toddler in tow and sort out their issue! All I wanted was a partial refund of atleast my postage.. they never offered that and only said refund if I return or a replacement, I thought well I'll just get a replacement as it's better than nothing. AIBU to not return it? Or say they can arrange a collection if that's what they want?

@AlwaysAWoman

She paid for delivery, she paid to receive her items in good condition- why should she she have to mess around going to the post office to sort a return when it wasn't her fault? I don't understand that. You buy online for a reason
She doesn’t have to (as has been explained at least 6 times now) - Royal Mail do pickups.
Chloemol · 08/01/2022 00:55

It’s very simple you take the new clothes out of the box, put the what we’re wet ones in and send it back

Of course you have to return one lot

And part of buying online is expecting to return things occasionally - what would she have done if they didn't fit or the retailer sent her the wrong colour?

You can't just buy online and expect to keep things for free when it goes wrong! OP can go the post office or pay 60p to have the parcel collected by Royal Mail and returned that way.

It's hardly like she's having to climb a mountain!

vivainsomnia · 08/01/2022 10:21

OP, you are everything that iswrong with our society, this entitled, I can't be bothered, it's not my fault, I'm a victim and deserve compensation attitude.

You are at fault too. If I'd got notice of delivery and didnt hear the bell or knock, my first thought would have been to look in my backyard. I'm sure delivery people have done this before when you haven't been home.

You're pregnant, sick, far away and assuming never go out. Fine, get your oh to drop it when he goes to work.

You are not entitled to two lots of clothes just because the driver made a mistake and you didn't think to look outside sooner.

Sassypants82 · 08/01/2022 10:27

Just offer the option for them to collect the first order and leave it at that. You are right, why should you go out of ykurf way to send them to back when the fault was not on your side.

I'd feel the same as you OP.

@SoggyClothes

I get it doesn't sound like a big deal but I'm without a car at the moment, and really can't be arsed to have to drag toddler on a bus when I'm pregnant and nauseous as hell as my hg sickness is kept at bay by cyclizine but the nausea is horrific and I'm just exhausted. I don't want to go out my way just to return some clothes that will be perfectly dry by then. I just wanted some sort of refund as an apology for the clothes not being delivered or packaged appropriately and being completely soaking. They were unclear and I misunderstood what was being offered, I don't want the clothes twice, I just thought that was what they were offering as an apology so said ok. Will try and negotiate a collection. Pain in the arse.
There's the drip feed!! Poor me!
rosesarereddish · 08/01/2022 10:36

Jesus fucking Christ. Did someone really just say that OP is everything that is wrong with society?! That is just plain nasty!

She paid for clothes that arrived soaking wet, she only wanted her delivery refunded which is more than fair and she even said multiple times she doesn't want two sets of the same clothes but they said to apologise for inconvenience they'll send out a replacement- that can very easily read as a goodwill gesture. She also said is she unreasonable to ask them to collect, not that she wants to steal the clothes?

How is a victim mentality to be annoyed that after already having the inconvenience of soaking wet clothes that she's then put at more inconvenience to rectify it! AIBU brings out some nasty, nasty women that love a pile on.

Totally agree! What us wrong with society is shoddy service. If Zara want them to be returned they pick them up. Thats it simple. Op doesn't need the hassle. This is on Zara.

She got notice of delivery at 5:30pm by email saying it had been delivered that morning. At what point in the day was she meant to psychically know that the box was outside having had no indication from the delivery driver at the point it was dumped in her garden?
Scrabblecrabapple · 08/01/2022 10:51

You thought they were going to send a replacement as a goodwill gesture and still expect you to keep the clothes you received?

This has happened to me at least twice. Once with a table and once with an ironing board.

Amazon do this nearly every time. I ordered a small pre formed pond. 1mx1m they sent me one the size of a small swimming pool. Was just left in the front garden with a slip and receipt that said 1m x1m. Original one cost £60 this one was worth about £300- they just sent me a new one and said keep the old one or technically please dispose of it. We sold it.

Flabbyflabberson · 08/01/2022 10:59

If it doesn't fit, you send it back or sell it to make back some money.
If they send the wrong colour, they can damn well come collect it. I'm not going to be inconvenienced because they sent the wrong thingHmm that's on them.

Dishwashersaurous · 08/01/2022 11:02

Of course you have to return them. Most places will do a courier collect. Just stick them in a plastic bag

Ginger1982 · 08/01/2022 11:04

Can't someone else take them to the post office for you?

BellaChagall · 08/01/2022 11:08

It's not clear whether the OP didn't receive the email until 5.30pm or didn't check her emails and see it until 5.30pm. In my experience all deliveries recently are automated so that when the courier enters that the delivery has been made the notification is automatically sent.

Either way, it doesn't matter. She needs to return the items using their return process and if necessary ask for a refund of any delivery charges.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 08/01/2022 11:16

Well, yes and no.

If they send the wrong colour and you don't want it, you wouldn't expect them to refund you and allow you to keep the money, surely?

Either you keep the item and re-sell it yourself, or you return it and they cover your postage costs, and then refund you once they've received the wrong item. They may offer to collect or cover the Royal Mail collection costs too, of course.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 08/01/2022 11:17

That should say allow you to keep the item. Not enough coffee!

Flabbyflabberson · 08/01/2022 11:23

They would have to pick it up I'm afraid. I can't drive and live many miles from a PO. Life is stressful enough without someone giving me more jobs due to their fuck upsConfused

I can't believe your reply. I see nothing entitled about OP, and think it's ridiculous you are trying to suggest it's even partially her fault.

👏👏👏

Couldn't agree more

jeepersdeepers · 08/01/2022 11:26

They can send a courier for them if they want them back. You are rejecting the goods as they arrived damaged.

This is what they should do, it's their responsibility to get the goods to you in the correct manner.

jeepersdeepers · 08/01/2022 11:26

OP, you are everything that iswrong with our society, this entitled, I can't be bothered, it's not my fault, I'm a victim and deserve compensation attitude.

Er, that's not a normal reaction at all...

jeepersdeepers · 08/01/2022 11:27

If you send them back you are definitely entitled to return postage costs

Skeumorph · 08/01/2022 11:31

Hang on, NO.

OP stated that what she DIDN'T want was the hassle of returning soaking clothes!!!!

They offered to REPLACE them.

If they want them back, they can send out a courier for them. And bloody Yodel who caused the issue in the first place can tackle a pile of soaking clothes.

And Zara who chose to use bloody Yodel might recognise the fact that Yodel are a big fucking problem and stop using them.

A very useful lesson for everyone.

But - bottom line - OP made it clear in her first phonecall that no, she was not prepared to deal with sending back a pile of soaking clothes which she was not responsible for creating!

Skeumorph · 08/01/2022 11:32

OP, accept the delivery, you have your order AS IT WAS ORDERED.

Then tell them the pile of soaking clothes are ready and available for them ANY TIME they want to send Yodel out to get them.

Needrichangemynameagain · 08/01/2022 11:40

You need to return them otherwise they will charge you for the second order.
I had this with different company.
The item was faulty and they immediately sent me replacement but I was told if I don’t sent back the faulty item within certain time I will be charged for both.
