shamelessly posting for traffic I'm afraid...
I want to eat soup in winter and it would be really useful on night when 2 different kids have 2 different back to back clubs if I could have it ready in the slow cooker when we finally get home.
The only soup my kids have liked so far is a blended root veg soup (carrot, potato, swede, butternut all blended up) but we are all a bit sick of it tbh.
So please share child friendly soup ideas with me?
Neither child will eat unblended onions.
It also can't have mushrooms, leeks, celery, cauliflower or broccoli because one or both will refuse those.

Does anyone have any tried and tested kids favourites?

Tomato and basil? My fussy DS loves it with lots of garlic bread to dunk in.

Soften an onion, carrot and celery stick in olive oil for 10 minutes. Add a can of tomatoes and 200ml stock and simmer for 15 minutes. Add 2 tbsp yogurt/cream and handful of fresh basil and blitz. Salt and pepper to taste. Serves 2

My DC's favourites are
Tomato soup
Carrot and ginger
Cauliflower and broccoli (maybe not for yours!)
Veg - either parsnips or potatoes plus celeriac, carrots and leek and cheese on top. Bonus points for me if there's a sausage in it.

Nigella’s thai chicken noodle soup is popular too, I just leave out the chilli for DS and for veg I add bean sprouts and spring onion as I know he’ll eat them

chorizo (take the skin of and dice) in a cold pan put the heat on and it will cook in the oil it releases, add sliced red onions, peeled and diced sweet potato, garlic, salt and pepper and smoked paprika, chuck in a load of chicken or veg stock, simmer until potatoes are very soft, blitz. You can add chillis if they like spicy things or use chilli flakes on yours if they don't. It's really warming and filling

Pea and ham? I detest peas, but for some reason, pea soup doesn't taste of peas!

I make soup out of all the aging veg in the bottom of the fridge every couple of weeks. It's different each time, depending on what we have, but always lovely.

If you blitz everything up your DCs won't be able to tell whether it has leeks etc in it.

Experiment - any combination of veg will taste good. I always include an onion and a potato to thicken it.

You have to keep trying, there is no use leaving out everything they don;t like at a young age. Mushroom soup is obviously pretty strong but I defy most kids to identify if a bit of cauliflower was in a general veg soup.

I often do a lentil and bacon soup, and a tomato soup, like others above. I make a broccoli and Stilton too, but that may be too strong a taste. My kids are older now, but still pretty much only like blended soups, nothing chunky. Some great recipes on here!
