Surely this is wrong?

It's not to my taste but seeing something wrong in that says more about you than it does the outfit

Somuddled · 05/01/2022 14:20

Do they make mummy ones too? I saw similar in a shop a few years ago and the pink ones in the girls section only said daddy and the blues ones the the boys section only had mummy. That I found odd, if it isn't emulating typical romantic coupling but rather familial love then why pair girls with dad and boys with mum?

Either way, messages on kids clothes are tacky as hell.

🤮🤮🤮

I really dislike parents who go on "dates" with their children

"At pizza express, date night with DS!"

Surely dates are for someone you feel attracted to? They are in my world..

Some people just take the defn of words more seriously than others. My best friend and I joke about going out on dates, if we managed to get out now without kids we might joke about finally getting a date night. We're both heterosexual a with no romantic interests in anyone except our respective husbands.

Bleargh.

Well no since there’s such thing as “Play dates” ?
ANameChangeAgain · 05/01/2022 16:34

I think its naff, and not the sort of thing I would have dressed mine it, butbit doesn't offend me.
My dad used to leave valentine's chocolates for my sister and I when we were little, as he loved us all. My female friend used to exchange valentine's cards with her female American pen pal, again really sweet.
I personally don't buy into the whole valentine's day commercialism, but I'm dull Grin

sadpapercourtesan · 05/01/2022 16:37

I wouldn't buy it, but I do think there is a generational/class thing around this sort of language. My beloved Uncle who died ten years ago was one of the gentlest and sweetest old gents you could ever meet, thoroughly working-class Northerner who doted on all his grandchildren. He would make teasing comments about being his granddaughter's "boyfriend" and it was completely harmless and affectionate.

gogohm · 05/01/2022 16:40

It was common when I lived in the USA, cards to my daughter on Valentine's, t shirts for adults and kids ... Also packs of 30 valentines to give out in class,

Skeumorph · 05/01/2022 16:48

Yes to Valentine's Day being a celebration of love and affection, traditionally. My great aunts used to make wonderful Valentine cards for one another.

No to very tacky things like this where the slogan has a horrible whiff of innuendo/sexuality about it - meant to be light and 'cute' but actually totally inappropriate. In the same ball park as all the 'Daddy's going to chase away all the boyfriends' crap. Vomit.

CityMumma78 · 05/01/2022 17:00

Yuck! Totally inappropriate and tacky. I can’t believe some people on here actually got cards and gifts from their PARENTS on Valentine’s Day…. No that is not normal!!

CounsellorTroi · 05/01/2022 17:10

I do cringe at Facebook updates along of “date night with my husband/wife”. It’s just a night out, there is no need to call it a date, unless the marriage has got stale and they are looking to rediscover the romance.

Sirzy · 05/01/2022 17:12

I don’t think it’s wrong but I would roll my eyes at it.

There again given I don’t think me and my partner have ever bothered with valentines I’m probably not the best to say!

CeilingWax · 05/01/2022 17:14

Yuck and disturbing for me. like PPs I’ve always known Valentines Day to be for romantic love, not familial love.

shouldistop · 05/01/2022 17:15

My 5yo son makes me a Valentine's Day card.

AuntieMarys · 05/01/2022 17:21

More Clinton Cards/ Card Factory type shite.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 05/01/2022 17:24

It's just cheapo tat that they love selling on Facebook
There are people that would buy anything hence " Easter trees "
I tell my little boy he's my valentine, I guess that's a bit cringey!

CSJobseeker · 05/01/2022 17:28

@TheSpiral

If it is just about familial love, a/ would you put a boy baby in that? And b/ why is is daddy not mummy?
I agree.

If it's just about loving your child, then boy babies would be wearing these sorts of things as well as girl babies.

Except they aren't.

Well the number of people getting them suggests it is. As long as the messages are sweet / cute and not sexual, what does it matter?
Blossomtoes · 05/01/2022 17:34

@AuntyBumBum

To be honest it's only "wrong" if you've got a slightly warped mind. And if you're looking for paedophiles they don't tend to advertise the fact by emblazoning on their daughters' clothing.
Absolutely. Just when you think there can’t possibly be anything left to be offended by …
CSJobseeker · 05/01/2022 17:34

For me it's in the same category as "Daddy has his baseball bat ready for any young men that try to date my daughter!" and those weird dad/daughter purity marriage things.

A 5 year old making their mum/dad/grandparent a valentine's card to say they love them is really sweet. But putting words in babies' mouths just seems creepy.

CSJobseeker · 05/01/2022 17:35

Tbh, I hate all slogans on baby clothes though.

Babynames2 · 05/01/2022 17:38

I wouldn’t buy it as it’s a bit cringey but DH buys valentines presents for our DCs as well as me, just some chocolate for each of us, or a teddy before they could eat chocolate.
