Do you get paid to isolate and can you wfh during this time or not?

Depends if you're well enough to work from home
If you are you wouldn't need sick pay and would get paid as normal
If you are too unwell you could be signed off sick and get sick pay

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 18:59

And it would be up to your employer as to whether it would be company sick pay or statutory sick pay

qualitygirl · 03/01/2022 19:00

Yep, I can work from home too though. But essentially yes...

irregularegular · 03/01/2022 19:02

I can always work from home if I need to isolate but am well enough to work.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/01/2022 19:03

In my organisation, you get paid for any covid related sickness (in line with your t&Cs- these can be different due to a lot of TUPE).

We can all WFH but if you are too unwell you're nor expected to. You're also paid if your child can't go to school due to covid so you can't work. Proof is required, without proof it's unpaid dependent leave.

Munchyseeds · 03/01/2022 19:11

I would be paid as long as I have done my regular PCR tests (which I have)

MagratsDanglyCharms21 · 03/01/2022 19:17

No but can't work from home

starpatch · 03/01/2022 19:21

I could work from home for 2 days until I run out of admin to catch up on, after that would be unpaid. I lost a weeks pay this time last year isolating. Its a big expense to have to try and budget for.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 03/01/2022 19:22

I don't but I am self employed and work from home anyway so it's not a big deal for me personally.

OpalOwl · 03/01/2022 19:22

Nursery nurse, Unpaid which is unfortunate as most of us get it from the kids!

TreeLawney · 03/01/2022 19:23

Yes do get paid. Can’t do a large part of my job from home (am a teacher) but when I had Covid did other parts eg training other teachers, paperwork etc while isolating.

Teacher sick pay is very good - we’re lucky in that regard.

You should have got SSP

@FawnFrenchieMum

Getting paid by your employer depends on sick arrangements etc

Those who are on low income and are required to isolate can be eligible for benefits

www.gov.uk/government/publications/test-and-trace-support-payment-scheme-claiming-financial-support/claiming-financial-support-under-the-test-and-trace-support-payment-scheme

When I was pinged I wasn’t actually required to isolate, (fully vaccinated) but I’m WFH anyway. I was planning to in office the next day for a presentation
(It could be attended remotely or in person, but I had opted to go in to enable me do do some other things in office)
So I changed my attendance to remote - I wasn’t required to isolate but it would have been stupid to go into a lecture theatre, even with distancing etc

My PCR came back as negative and I wasn’t ill, so I was able to work whilst ‘isolating’

If I had become ill then I’d have turned everything off and gone sick

crazyhairbear · 03/01/2022 19:25

Yes we get medically suspended on full pay. I can't work from home.

CharlotteRose90 · 03/01/2022 19:27

I get paid for mine but no I can’t work from home.

DeepaBeesKit · 03/01/2022 19:32

In my company you get paid your normal wage when sick (within reason - eg a few days a year or something). We can wfh when isolating. When I had Covid I had 3 days sick as I felt lousy, then the rest I wfh. For a couple of days of it I swapped my non work days around as it's my busy season, it's me that has to catch up the work.

2anddone · 03/01/2022 19:35

I am a childminder and parents pay me in advance so if I have to isolate I have to refund parents or knock the total from the following months invoice....cost me a fortune when we had to isolate for 2 weeks when my son got it in 2020

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 03/01/2022 19:38

I teach, we get paid for any covid related absences including looking after our own children. When DD had Covid I did my own admin and prep and also some work for the department for remote learning for the Spring term but otherwise I wasn't asked to deliver live lessons from home, although this had previously been trialled and didn't work well for our students.

The way covid rips through schools it's probably just as well you do!
liveforsummer · 03/01/2022 19:40

I'm a TA and get paid for any covid absence. You can apply for a self isolation grant from the council if you are to lose wages

EileenGC · 03/01/2022 19:41

I don’t. I also can’t work from home (performance arts / entertainment industry). I’m freelance and if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. Contracts don’t cover sickness. I do get a monthly stipendium but that just covers rent.

The only income I’d have if I were to isolate, would be 50€ a week from the one tutoring session I still run online. The rest are in person and we couldn’t just switch as it takes a while to set up what would be needed.

StarryNightSky26 · 03/01/2022 19:46

I WFH anyway so doesn't apply.

Dh is based in a warehouse so no WFH possible and he gets fully paid for any covid related absence - whether positive, symptoms and awaiting PCR or just pinged and needing to isolate if not vaccinated.

People in his workplace are wise to this - plenty have only had one jab and keep the NHS app on at all times because every time they're pinged they get ten days off work fully paid. Some have been off work more than in in the past year!

rwalker · 03/01/2022 19:52

Most people can't WFH in my company .
We get fully pay for
waiting PCR results
isolating
Shielding ( some months and months )
side effects from vaccine
time off for vaccine

and none of the above go on your sick record

As you can imagine this policy has had the piss completely ripped out of it and there plans a foot to change it .

Awalkintime · 03/01/2022 20:01

I get paid but I am expected to work regardless of if I am well or not - covid or for any other illness.

delilahbucket · 03/01/2022 20:06

No as I'm self employed and I can't work from home. Neither can my staff, so if I have to isolate I have to cover my lost income (which will equate to at least two weeks if I only have to isolate for a week due to the fact I would have to cancel all existing orders as well as not taking any new ones until I know I'm back in work) as well as theirs because they can't work without me present. Fab isn't it, with the "you must test 20 times a day" brigade breathing down your neck 🙄
