to let everyone know that TENKO is being repeated starting this afternoon at 2:20 on the Drama channel?

OP posts:
RampantIvy · 03/01/2022 14:52

I'll have to watch it on catch up. I loved it.

PAFMO · 03/01/2022 14:52

@CarlaH

I assumed the purpose of AIBU is to ask people if you think behaviour either yours or somebody else's is unreasonable.

This subject really doesn't fit those parameters.

Having said that I do know that all the other sections don't get as much interest so was being a bit cheeky really.

Kinda makes you wonder what the point of all the sections is though.

Why don't you go and watch a nice TV series instead of being clenchy about posts going in the "right" section of a mammy chat forum?
PAFMO · 03/01/2022 14:55

@notacooldad

Why is this in AIBU? Because everything gets dumped in here. People forget there are other topics such as "Telly Addicts" 🤷‍♀️
Because not everyone acts like the post police and has some sort of stress attack if, God forbid, someone posts in AIBU?
Rhannion · 03/01/2022 14:59

Many of us on here who remember Tenko, have great affection for it, so would appreciate being able to rewatch and those who may not be familiar with it might enjoy it too so that’s why I decided to post on AIBU & not on Telly Addicts.

Sigh.

Just for those posters who are being snippy about why this is in AIBU....

OP YANBU to remind us that TENKO is being aired again.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 03/01/2022 15:04

@CarlaH

Why is this in AIBU?
Hmm, maybe because the OP wanted to spread the word to as many fans as possible and the amount of traffic that AIBU attracts us a good way to do that. Hth Smile
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 03/01/2022 15:07

Maybe the buttock clenchers could get together and write their own exciting tv series, 'The thread police'?

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/01/2022 15:29

I've been rewatching Secret Army.
Many of the episodes are extremely tense and all the more disturbing for being based on true stories.

SammyScrounge · 03/01/2022 15:48

Tenko was marvellous. It's not often that we get to see such a range of characters for women - in Tenko we got real individual characters, warts and all. I have never forgotten Rose or Beatrice, Marian or Blanche or Kate. The actresses who portrayed them were first rate too.

GoodnightGrandma · 03/01/2022 15:49

I used to watch this as a child too.
Didn’t understand it, it was just on !

MerryChristmas21 · 03/01/2022 15:50

@CarlaH

Why is this in AIBU?
Why not?

The OP iNBU to tell/remind people it's on.

iklboo · 03/01/2022 16:52

I really got back into it the last time it was repeated. Then they decided not to show the last series of it. I was so annoyed!

StellaAndCrow · 03/01/2022 17:13

Juergen yes I remembered the music from Enemy at the Door more than anything else about it - I couldn't remember the name of it for ages, so only found it again recently :)

I'm not the thread police! Just answering someone's question!
Aibu is a dumping ground though for anyone to ask anything and just sticking Aibu in front of the statement. 🤣

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 03/01/2022 17:19

@Lazydaisydaydream

I’ve never watched tenko but I remember reading a fiction book about a group of female friends who loved the show and all sort of named each other after the characters in it. Maybe one of the friends had recently died. Anyone know which book that is?! I feel like it was a Jane Green type one.
The Tenko club by Elizabeth noble
TabbyBeast · 03/01/2022 17:21

My drama teacher was in Tenko!

Such an amazing series. I caught bits when I was younger so probablt didn't understand properly but watched again last year and was so moved.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 03/01/2022 17:23

The film of a town like alice upsets me because it only covers the first half of the book. The second is all about her settling in Australia and working to build ' a town like Alice'.

Spanglemum · 03/01/2022 17:25

I never saw Tenko but I watched Secret Army and it was brilliant and harrowing. It didn't glamorise the war.

Idbemonica1 · 03/01/2022 17:27

Thank you OP. You have made my day, series link set up 😊

ghostyslovesheets · 03/01/2022 17:30

It's been on BritBox for a while - I watched it all - except for the reunion series as that's not on there

It was good but by modern standards not as harrowing as I remember - not necessarily a bad thing.

Blossomtoes · 03/01/2022 20:53

Having watched the first episode this afternoon, I’m stunned at the awful picture quality. HD has really spoilt us.

Onthegrid · 03/01/2022 21:32

I remember watching this, must have been with my DP as it started when we only had 1 TV.
I was 12.

upinaballoon · 03/01/2022 21:33

@SirChenjins

I loved A Town Like Alice series - Bryan Brown was one of my first ever crushes! Such a brilliant book too.
I agree. I first saw the Peter Finch film. Later I read the book. Another later I saw the Bryan Brown version and I thought that was the better one. We could do with that being repeated somewhere.
nildesparandum · 03/01/2022 21:48

Loved this.Saw the original showing back in the 70s My DS2 was only about 9 years old and he loved it, I would let him stay up and watch it as it held his full attention .Saw it again a few years ago when bought the box set from Amazon so my DH could see it as he was working night shift when it was shown the first time.
I will see it again now!. I can remember the actress who played the doctor was on Corrie as Roy's mother.

BoopTheFloof · 03/01/2022 21:58

I remember watching that as a kid and how powerful it was.

When I lived in Lo don in my twenties I rented the top floor of a house off one of the actresses in it.

She was very nice.
