Blair knighthood

Mummyrowland · 03/01/2022 02:54

Nearly half a million people have signed a petition over his knighthood in 48 hours.

It should be removed and he shouldn't be awarded it.

After all what did he do that was good?

What about all the squaddies he sent to their deaths over the supposed wmds?

High ranking members of the armed forces are threatening resignation if his award isn't reconsider

What good did Churchill do?

Pleaded, cajoled, bullied, slammed desks and shouted at a cabinet that wanted to give in, an Army Command that only saw defeat and a frightened and stunned parliamentary establishment. He picked a nation up from it's knees, turned it round and gave it the confidence and courage to face the most evil, murderous and corrupt group of criminal racists the world had ever seen. He was a voice in the wilderness, the epitome of defiance and was wholly determined to be at the very front of the very first landing craft in the very first wave that hit the beach on D-Day and it was only Eisenhower's plea to the King that stopped him. He mobilized the west, including the Americans, to face a dark political regime intent on genocide. He was a colossus that strode the earth. He was as much Hitlers nemesis as Stalin. He was arguably the Greatest Briton. And to compare him to Tony Blair is the greatest insult anybody could possibly make. That you are able to sit there and write such utter bollocks is due to the freedom that Churchill and an entire generation, from all over Europe and the Commonwealth, fought and died for.

Do not mention Tony fucking Blair in the same breath.

Rant over.

You have no choice but to “let the atrocities go”. You can’t turn back time and you can’t change the past. What you can do is change the future. Encourage him to get some help. Living with someone with PTSD is a dreadful thing but ranting about its cause achieves nothing.
Alexandra2001 · 03/01/2022 20:47

@BoudecaBains Yet here you are stifling freedom of speech, ordering people what to and what not to say, ironic really.

The Americans won the war, the attack on Russia in 1941 by Hitler was what bought the allies time but ultimately, it was Hitlers incompetence that lost him WW2, had he stuck with his pact with Stalin, its likely that Germany and the US would have agreed terms with the UK not invaded but stranded outside of Europe... which isn't a million miles from where we are now, thanks to the boomer generation that threw away the legacy of WW2 & once put the UK at the heart of Europe - now we are bystanders as europe takes its own path.

You've been watching too much Hollywood history.

Christ there are a lot of thick, pious people on MN - so many of whom New Labour did so much good for directly.

Best period for the country for a long time and incomparable to the shitshow we’ve built for ourselves since.

Well done TB - enjoy credit where it’s due.

Lol!

Sorry but without American food, raw materials, weapons and money the UK would have starved in 1940/41.

Or do you think those Atlantic convoys were from the UK supplying the Americans?

The Germans would have beaten back the British at Normandy without the USA, we were all but wiped out in N.Africa and the far east too.

Or as the US soldier used to say (about the british soldier) "under equipped, under sexed and under Eisenhower

Alexandra2001 · 03/01/2022 21:44

@BoudecaBains Having said that, i do like the way you ve backed up your jingoistic rant with zero historical fact.

Mummyrowland · 03/01/2022 22:40

I and he deal with his ptsd. Its not as easy as getting help. Consider having to stand still whilst people scrape your best mate off you ao the parents have something to Bury then going f to the funeral to be kicked out as they died and he didn't.

We cope we manage but it will never go away or be accepted

Also talking about the atrocities higights to people that the squaddies were sent in ill equipped ill prepared under funded and basically sent in with little or no body armour! Soldiers had to give up ppe to the press! Vehicles could never withstand the ieds (known before they went in) armour playing was sub standard

Thats why so many died

That's why so many families are furious

That's why parents are giving back medals

That's why a ton of squaddies HATE him

Did good?? I've spent far too long on MN today but had to quickly pop back when I saw this thread.

How is attacking the most vulnerable doing good?

Tony Blair is a double war criminal. Iraq, and also his (and Brown's) despicable war on the disabled. And yes, the ones who came after him (the heirs to Blair) aren't any better but that doesn't excuse what he started.

Additionally I don't see decreasing the availability of affordable housing as helping the poor or working class.

Fantastically well written post btw @BoudecaBains

Just listen to George Michael. Tells it as it is. This video is brilliant.

Revolting arsewipe.

He takes care never to go about in public because he is so reviled. Apparently his feelings are hurt when people point out the blood he has on his hands.

I didn't realise Blair had had his trial and been found guilty of war crimes?
Or that Brown had a "war on disability" wasn't that Osbourne and his freezing rebranding of DLA... after Cameron no longer claimed it that is!

In regard to war crimes, i think the 100s of British lives lost in Afghanistan for absolutely no reason at all is the real horror, at least the murderous tyrant Saddam is no more, the Taliban are back as if they never went away but as this happened under a Tory govt, it conveniently gets glossed over.

Lasttraintolondon · 04/01/2022 10:18

From the BBC:

Asked whether Sir Tony's honour was a "thorny" issue, Sir Keir told GMB: "I don't think it's thorny at all. I think he deserves the honour."

Sir Keir clearly showing yet again he can't read the room. He had an opportunity to distance himself from Blair and didn't. God knows when we'll get a decent opposition leader in the country, we certainly don't have one now.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 04/01/2022 10:24

Starmer continues to dig his party's own grave.

Totally unelectable.

@madisonbridges - you need to study Churchill a bit more. He's the reverse of Blair, one very good thing, lots of very dubious / bad things as well as being an alcoholic and a racist“

I don't agree with it. And what he did to the university system has ruined the job market and ridiculous competition to go to h ive is when previous time the fees system it was much much easier to get a very good job without all this debt.

The Queen has sole discretion on this award, i'd imagine saying anything different would get all the Tories shouting "Starmer opposes the Queen"

What do people want? You all moaned about Corbyn, now we have a far more centralist Labour leader and thats no good either!

Brainwave89 · 04/01/2022 10:42

On balance Blair was a great leader. In conjunction with Gordon Brown he presided over a great time of economic prosperity and investment in public services. His decision to go to war in Iraq was wrong, but there is much else he got right., and in invading Iraq he took out a brutal dictator in the form of Sadam Hussein who had conducted gas attacks on his own people. Afghanistan was invaded as it was sheltering Al Quaida who carried out the 9/11 bombings. There was little choice but to do so.

More electable than Corbyn for sure. And I know many Tories who think more electable than Johnson.
