To think I might dodge covid after exposure

Anyone got any positive ‘dodged the covid bullet’ stories?

Was with a friend for 30 mins today in her house. I sat at the opp end of her sofa and was never that close to her. She has just tested positive 😬 I have to visit an elderly relative in 3 days time so praying I never got close enough! She tested negative this morning as we both tested before I went round! Shows how quickly things can change.

Aibu to think I might dodge the bullet? I guess all I can do now is pray 🤞🏻

You might dodge the bullet yes. If she tested positive the same day then she would have been infectious when you were with her but infectious people don't infect every single person they are in contact with. Are you vaccinated?

But whilst you might possibly dodge the bullet, in your circumstances I would not be visiting a vulnerable elderly relative in 3 days time. In 3 days time you will be on the exact cusp where you could be still testing negative but brewing up an infection that is about to reveal itself. That's not a chance I would take unless the lack of a visit could do more serious harm than a potential covid infection.

I shared a house with DH and DC when they had COVID. DC didn’t distance from me. I didn’t get it, but that was before new variant. It seems pot luck from people I know.

Letshaveablackcelebration · 02/01/2022 20:59

@BuanoKubiamVej I am double vaxxed but haven’t had a booster yet. Had it in the house too with DP having it and didn’t get it.

But yes, you are right about the relative - will postpone

DH and I didn’t catch it from our DC a few weeks ago.

Letshaveablackcelebration · 02/01/2022 21:02

I think I am extra worried about the new variant to be honest

I was sat next to a friend in the pub for 3 hours on December 22nd, next day she had a positive LFTf followed by positive PCR. I didn't catch it.

Letshaveablackcelebration · 02/01/2022 21:04

@Waxonwaxoff0 that’s quite reassuring! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Spent a whole afternoon with a friend on the 11th December who tested positive the day afterwards. I didnt catch it. New variant.

DH tested positive on Tuesday (symptoms started on Sunday night / Monday morning), I've had nowhere to be all week so have made no effort to keep away from him, still testing negative!

CrocodilesCry · 02/01/2022 21:15

There's no way of telling. You're at higher risk though if you've not had your booster - do get that as soon as you can as your protection is now poor.

A friend popped round two weeks ago for about half an hour and he tested positive five days later. I was fairly relaxed about it as it a) had been five days since I saw him (I'd have been more concerned if it was same day/within a few days and b) we're all fully vaccinated including boosters.

I definitely wouldn't be visiting the elderly relative though. Hope you stay well!

HunkyPunk · 02/01/2022 21:16

I’ve dodged 3 bullets so far - dh, ds2, ds3 and ds1’s partner. There’s bound to be one with my name on it one of these days!

Frazzled2207 · 02/01/2022 21:21

well you might or might not. I dodged a pretty heavy bullet when DS and then DH got it recently. No distancing happened. In fact one night both DS and DH were in my bed all night (with me as well), coughing!

supercalifragilistic123 · 02/01/2022 21:22

I caught it from being in the same room as someone, I didn't even get that close! Was double jabbed too.
I honestly think there's no way of knowing either way.

TooMuchCheesecake · 02/01/2022 21:24

I dodged the covid bullet. DH tested positive 5 days before Christmas (likely omicron). Right up until the day he tested positive we had been sharing a bed, kissing, etc. I'm also 25 weeks pregnant so my immune system isn't as strong as normal so I was convinced I would also get it. Somehow I didn't catch it!

macon · 02/01/2022 21:26

I've been around oodles of people with no social distancing etc in the past few months, some of whom have subesequently tested positive. I have given it no particular thought, but seem not to have caught it.

BeagleBum2001 · 02/01/2022 21:56

DD had it in October and no one else got it and we are a large family.

DBIL came over Christmas Eve then tested positive Christmas Day so far no one else has tested positive including his wife.

autumncrisp · 02/01/2022 23:36

I've never had it. Done numerous tests since they've been out and never tested positive. I've been in close contact with many positive cases right the way through. Nobody in my home has ever caught it either.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 02/01/2022 23:38

Sorry, I know this is not relevant to your question but WHY THE FUCK IS SHE TESTING TWICE A DAY???? Don't people know that there is a national shortage of lat flow tests?

It's perfectly possible: its not a given that you will catch COVID from exposure, even with Omicron.

I went to a dinner party in October, every one of the six other people at the table got (Delta) and I didn't. I've known numerous situations with couples or families where one partner has got it and the other hasn't, despite sharing a bed. There's just no way to know, there are so many factors involved, vaxx status, viral load, immune system health etc.

That said, I would certainly not be visiting the elderly relative for the next week or so.

RubyJam · 02/01/2022 23:43

There are people I know who are testing twice a day too Grin
Why Confused
Honestly not needed

Crinkle77 · 03/01/2022 00:03

I've dodged it twice with people in work. I know it's only a matter of time before I get it.

Jasmine00 · 03/01/2022 01:16

My children had covid and I got them to literally cough directly into my face over a day, so I could get it at the same time and just all do the one isolation.... Anyway I've never got it and that was over a month ago now!

HappyDays40 · 03/01/2022 01:22

I was double vaxxed at the time now triple but slept next to my husband, accidentally used his toothbrush and finished his wine in his most infections (unbeknownst to us ) period. Two PCR tests later and I was fine.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 03/01/2022 01:24

My sister had it but her DP dodged it, despite sharing a bed/food/everything with her before she tested positive.
