To think I haven't caught it from DH?

nixso29 · 02/01/2022 11:08

So DH tested positive NYE after developing symptoms on Thursday. Prior to that we both had our boosters on Monday 27th and just assumed we were feeling a bit rotten due to the side effects of that. I obviously had been sharing a bed etc with him up to that point as no reason to assume either of us had Covid.

I have now developed symptoms since Saturday and just been for PCR this morning. AIBU to think I just have a totally unrelated cough/headache/sneezing thats not the dreaded C?! I haven't been anywhere since Xmas eve barring the local shop for some milk but DH has been back to work
@LuluBlakey1 you don't need to derail this thread with the other one. Completely happy to acknowledge my comment here was unfair and unnecessary.

The other one, I stand by.
Glad you've apologised but my point still stands- you don't need to fire off abusive comments, you can make a point as effectively without being abusive.

If you haven't seen anyone except dh then where did you catch the cold from?

SofiaMichElf · 02/01/2022 12:51

If you have cold-like symptoms, it turning out not to be Covid would be more surprising at the moment.

Everyone I know who's had "a cold" in the past few weeks has tested positive.

Have a look at ZOE Covid study regarding the extremely high percentage of colds which are actually Covid just now.

WorriedGiraffe · 02/01/2022 12:53

If you havnt been anywhere else then were could you have caught an unrelated cold from? They don’t come from nowhere. It’s obvious you’ve probably caught it from your DH

SofiaMichElf · 02/01/2022 12:53

Forgot to add - "cough/headache/sneezing" is exactly the symptoms we've all got with Covid. No fever, etc, etc. Just the ones you mention.

User2638483 · 02/01/2022 12:55

If it makes you feel any better I had booster 2 months ago and still caught it and have still been quite unwell with jt

nixso29 · 02/01/2022 13:01

I agree with everyone's comments that it seems the chances are high of me having caught it from DH. I just wondered if there was a possibility of me having caught a non-covid cold from having been to my local shop or having gone for my booster at the vaccination centre

Thanks for the replys everyone, will await my results hopefully later today/tomorrow

@BoodleBug51

I think I caught Covid at the mass vaccination clinic I attended for my booster and flu jab....... thought it was side effects but within 3 days tested positive for Covid. Hadn't been anywhere else..... and DH caught it as well as our 2 DD's living at home.

I want to poke all these "get yourself boosted" evangelicals in the eye frankly, several other people I know have had the same. Get their boosters then test positive within days..... whoever thought mass clinics were a sensible idea wants a lecture on how Covid spreads.

Snap. My DD had COVID wasn’t allowed out of her room, except for toilet for 10 days since symptoms. Was allowed out on 20th. I got a negative test on 23rd, got my booster at test centre and then had symptoms on Boxing Day, tested positive on 27th.

Still a feint line on day 7.🤷🏾‍♀️ To which they have reduced quarantine days right.

OrangeShark27 · 02/01/2022 13:04

I'm not sure the logic behind thinking you xant have caught covid because you havent been anywhere but you could have caught a cold?

Especially when it sounds like the only person you have interacted with is your DH, who has covid.

Yes it may not be covid, but it is the most likely illness.

Crinkle77 · 02/01/2022 13:06

Of course you got it from your husband.

BertiesShoes · 02/01/2022 13:10

Mmmm, well there’s a thread on mumsnet where the Op is asking what the hell she has, as she is ill with cold/cough but tested negative.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4441557-I-don-t-have-COVID-so-what-on-earth-has-infected-me-brought-me-down-so-badly

My DD just got neg PCR despite having cold symptoms and a cough.

Op, it’s likely you will have picked COVID up if DH has it, but not definite as there are other bugs around.

CovidForChristmas · 02/01/2022 13:11

Took 6 days for my DH to test positive after me. I’m pretty sure I gave it to him, as opposed to him catching it from somewhere else.
T&T recorded it as household transmission.

Well of course there’s a chance that you’ve caught a different illness from someone/somewhere else, but on the balance of probabilities it’s not the most likely cause of your illness.

Thankfully, Covid is mild for the vast majority of people so I wouldn’t be too worried.

WonderfulYou · 02/01/2022 13:40

If DH is positive then chances are you’ve got it from him due to being in close contact with him.

You could have got it from the shops or covid vaccination centre but it’s a lot less likely due to most people wearing masks, rooms being better ventilated etc.

What’s the problem with getting it from DH?

Marmite17 · 02/01/2022 13:40

I have a neighbour and a friend with symptoms of a cold/ omicron. Neighbour did several tests all negative. Not sure if friend's family tested, friend said she had a cold but had tested negative a few days before Christmas. Was there on Christmas Day.
Saw my own family on Boxing Day and a relative, in spite of having people on both side of her test positive a few days before, tested negative. No Christmas Day testing that I know of but whole group, strict host, tested for Boxing Day.
Triple jabbed and realised it is inevitable that I will catch Omicron.
Feeling off from Tuesday, morning sore throat, v tired. Odd lightheadedness on waking , some vertigo. Test negative, PCR negative, part of a survey. Wiped out on Wednesday.
OK by Thursday ish. Got jobs done. Friday feeling worse as the day went on. Sore throat not going, sinuses, left ear and joints zinging and muscles aching. On off hot flushes and sweating/fever.
Test was negative but still cancelled invite to Christmas Day hosts New Year's Eve party.
She had just got sore throat in morning and dosed up. Felt like c* tbh.
Feeling better now but throat still throbbing on left side and on off fever. Ear threatening.
More energy, couldn't face a shower or serious cooking. Good excuse to eat pizza!
Cooked proper food yesterday.
All LFTs negative
Either a separate bug or LFT not working. Low viral load?
Plus no way of knowing source. Could be shop or any number of people seen socially.
Think Omicron is unavoidable tbh.

Marmelace · 02/01/2022 13:43

It's got to the point that that many people are showing up positive that I don't see any point in worrying where you got it. All four of us are isolating after positive tests atm.

FluffyBooBoo · 02/01/2022 13:47

The incubation time for omicron is shorter than for delta - it's highly likely you caught it from him. Given you've hardly been anywhere else, surely it's the most likely option?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/01/2022 13:49

you will never know op

ShinyHappyPoster · 02/01/2022 13:52

There is a horrible cold going round so it might be that but it's more likely that you've caught Covid from your DH - sorry Flowers

HNY2022 · 02/01/2022 13:59

I’m not sure why you even considered you would have caught it from elsewhere when you’ve barely been anywhere.

He started to feel unwell on Thursday and now you’re developing symptoms a few days later. You’re usually infectious before showing symptoms, which is why covid has been so hard to tackle, so it’s possible you caught it from him earlier in the week and now showing symptoms, which makes perfect sense.

nixso29 · 02/01/2022 14:04

I think I may have confused some people with the wording of my thread title so apologies for that

If my result comes back positive I can be pretty much certain that I will have caught it from DH. I have no issue with this

My AIBU was simply me asking was I being unreasonable to assume that I could have caught a non-covid illness from elsewhere due to me being out at the vaccination centre and also at the local shop but as a PP has pointed out it is much less likely due to mask wearing/hand sanitising etc

I just wanted to ask if anyone else had been in a similar position of having been in close contact with a positive case and having symptoms but testing negative

I was a close contact when my friend had covid. I spent the day with her and the next day she tested positive. I came down with symptoms (headache, sore throat, blocked nose etc) but did daily lfts and a pcr which were all negative and so I assume it was not covid.

There are lots of winter bugs/ viruses about and so of course it is possible to pick one of these up regardless of whether you have also been a close contact. That said I only spent the day with her, I didn’t live with her. Seeing as you live with your DH I’d expect the likelihood of catching covid from him to be much higher than if you had just spent a day in his company. The fact you’ve only just had your booster and it hasn’t had time to take full effect yet would also make me think you were at increased risk of catching it.

Tal45 · 02/01/2022 14:14

OP is just hoping it's a cold and not covid. You never know OP you might be lucky.
