If you have a son/daughter Y7 and 8 who has to wear masks in school - what does the school do If they've forgotten or lost it in the morning?

Ask the school?

fruitpastille · 01/01/2022 20:22

They go to the year manager office and are given a disposable one. They might get a warning or they might get away with it.

CheshireCats · 01/01/2022 20:23

They are given one.

tiredanddangerous · 01/01/2022 20:24

They are given one

Jojobees · 01/01/2022 20:24

Our sons school has a box at the door of every classroom and encourages them to change them regularly. Not great for the environment but great for reducing the spread of Covid.

FranklyMyBeer · 01/01/2022 20:24

OK the reason I am asking is that we have now been told they have to pay a £1 donation to charity for a disposable one.

It's an indie prep school.

I always hand one out to them as they leave the car, but they have a back up pack of masks in their bags which I've said they can also hand out to their friends if they're really stuck.

FreeFrenchHens · 01/01/2022 20:25

they are expected to go and get one from reception.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/01/2022 20:25

Provided with one

FreeFrenchHens · 01/01/2022 20:27

Crosspost. I think at a private school you'll be hard pushed to duck the charge.

Send them in with a couple of spares and have them check mask and spare as part of packing their bag every night.

logsonlogsoff · 01/01/2022 20:27

They go to reception and get one ( and get minus behaviour points) but the charity idea sounds good - might help them to remember to bring one!
Mind you -indie prep school so £1 prob isn’t that much money to those kids…
My DS would hate handing over £1 of his pocket money…

dementedpixie · 01/01/2022 20:27

I dont blame them for asking for a donation if my ds's school is anything to go by. Kids coming by several times a day to get masks, must cost the school a fortune. I'm in Scotland so they wear a mask all day and have done for many months now

MakkaPakkas · 01/01/2022 20:28

15 min detention

I guess so. But the type of person who regularly forgets a mask will probably also regularly forget any money too.....

Unless they keep a tally. Which actually would not bother me.

Big comp, have to pay £1 for a disposable one

alrightfella · 01/01/2022 20:33

At an independent school I think that's fine.

My ds has to pay £1 to get anything back from lost property. It's supposed to be a deterrent.

Clymene · 01/01/2022 20:35

Don't you just put a load of spare masks in their bags? My kids have at least 4 spare masks with them at all times

Coasterfan · 01/01/2022 20:36

They are freely available around both schools, I always stick one in their bag in the morning though and we have a stash in the glovebox. They are also available on DS school bus, he has had to wear one on the bus since September, before the guidance changed.

Sound fair. They won't forget again in a hurry.
noblegiraffe · 01/01/2022 20:37

They can buy one for £1.

My DS is liable to forget so I check he has a clean one every morning. He also has a spare in a pocket in his bag just in case.

whenthedoveslie · 01/01/2022 20:38

Just make sure they have a few in their bags. It's not hard.

TheRealityCheque · 01/01/2022 20:39

Kids that age wearing masks is by far the real issue here.

CakesOfVersailles · 01/01/2022 20:41

Year 7 & 8 can buy masks, pens, and hair ties from the office for the equivalent of 50p (if your hair is past your collar it has to be tied back under school rules).

DementedPanda · 01/01/2022 20:41

School charges them 30p for a disposable one

Prescottdanni123 · 01/01/2022 20:50

The school that I works at has a few boxes at reception. The kids just go and ask for them. We all keep a couple of boxes in the dinner hall at lunch times
