If you have a son/daughter Y7 and 8 who has to wear masks in school - what does the school do If they've forgotten or lost it in the morning?

We give them one. Forget twice a week and parents are contacted. Forget 3 times a week then you get a detention.

Fair enough to charge for a spare. Its not hard to bung a few extras in your bag.

Our school expects them to bring £1 to the office for a disposable one. Canteen is cashless and teens mostly use cards for everything so I don't see how it would work unless they knew they didn't have one before leaving the house and had cash in the house. Just as easily to keep an emergency mask in their bag as it is to keep an emergency pound coin!

I guess so. But the type of person who regularly forgets a mask will probably also regularly forget any money too.....

Unless they keep a tally. Which actually would not bother me.

At my old school, they would have just added the cost of the masks onto your bill, so you'd have had no choice but to pay.

If it’s a private school and they also forget the money, surely they’ll just add it to the bill!

We have masks by the front door. DS has spare in his school bag in case he forgets. In previous terms they had a rule of 3 strikes and you are out for the school bus, so assume that will apply again this term.

Doublechins · 02/01/2022 12:49

My DS has to wear it on the bus so he wouldn't make it to school without one

They are charged off their parentpay account if they need to get one with an email sent to the parent about it though if the account is empty the child obviously still get one.

Pretty much every parent newsletter we've had has asked us to ensure our kids have a mask plus a spare when they leave and the last one discussed the difficulties in keeping in enough supplies. I know it's been a struggle to keep up with what the local public health are recommending with reality on the ground of what parents can or will provide and how some students act.

they're given one.. but my DD has at least 3 spares on her at all times, in case she loses it, or needs to change it for any reason.
