To think at 41 I can swap the shoulder I wear my handbag on

Yes I know that there are more important issues. No I’m not taking the piss.

My right shoulder is half an inch shorter than the left from carrying heavy book bags and handbags since I was twelve. Unfortunately, I can’t switch. Encourage your daughters to alternate shoulders when young, use knapsacks over both shoulders, or carry less.

You find pretty much that women tend to wear their bags on the opposite side to their dominant arm. It's a subconscious thing.
I've tried to wear mine on the opposite shoulder and it just slides off.
Could you lengthen the straps so they go across you?

GoodnightGrandma · 01/01/2022 06:47

I’m looking for a cross body bag as I’ve suddenly developed a hatred of carrying a bag on my shoulder !
The trouble is that all the bags I’ve seen are ‘stiff’, I want something soft like a really soft leather.

CJsGoldfish · 01/01/2022 06:54

I don't think it's possible. Many have tried and failed, myself included.
If you manage it OP you will have my admiration 🤣
Good luck!

I swap at random - but I used to be left handed, went to a school that insisted on right handed writing, so am often a bit cack=handed/ampidextrous at how I do things.

Aprilx · 01/01/2022 07:28

No it’s not possible. Everyone has one shoulder slopes down and you will not be able to keep a bag on it. I am right handed but my left shoulder is the shoulder bearing bag.

FrankGrillosWrist · 01/01/2022 07:32

Rucksack. Although on the occasion that I have a bag it’s always on the left as I have problems with the right. It comes natural after a while.

rifling · 01/01/2022 07:36

You need a packback sorry! My handbag swaps between packback and one shoulder mode. I always put it on as a backpack if I'm walking far or it kills my back later.

CoalCraft · 01/01/2022 07:45

I didn't realise most people have a "bag shoulder". I swap mine from shoulder to shoulder when it starts to feel heavy.

@ElinorOliphant

Jesus Christ OP where does it end?

Wearing your watch on the right wrist?

This cannot be done!

Wearing a watch on the other wrist is a doddle.

I think swapping shoulders is akin to learning to sign your name in your normal handwriting with the "wrong" hand.

If you manage to do it, please report back!!

Faevern · 01/01/2022 08:15

No. I have tried and failed repeatedly. I often use a backpack, I have occasionally managed to hang it off the wrong shoulder.

CuriousMariette · 01/01/2022 08:45

No not possible. I can’t even wear a cross body bag on the “wrong” side. Alternating shoulders from a young age should be part of the National Curriculum.

CrumblyCrimble · 01/01/2022 11:47

Double strap handbag, worn like rucksack. Otherwise you'll just screw your other shoulder, and your back, then the knees..

CrumblyCrimble · 01/01/2022 11:49

I'm talking about a bag called Kita from All Saints. Pricey but has lasted me years and still looks like new. Only bag I'll ever need again
