Early Fireworks

You’ve bought fireworks to let the New Year in, fair enough.

Why are you setting them off at 10:30pm and not 12:00 midnight?

They started at 5pm here and are still going off at 2:20am. It’s exhausting and so anti social. I wish they’d ban the bloody things.

Floralnomad · 01/01/2022 02:27

They started at about 6 here and I’ve not heard any for the last 20 minutes so I assume they are now over . Fortunately my dog doesn’t care .

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/01/2022 10:54

Loads here all evening. No pets to be scared though.

MrsWinters · 01/01/2022 10:57

I’d rather they set them off early when they’re still sober, rather than starting to mess around with explosives after a couple of bottles of plonk.

Stuckhere2021 · 01/01/2022 10:58

When did this become such a thing? They started here about 1030 but didn’t stop until about 230am! My poor husband went to bed at 9pm as he needed to get up at 530am for a 12 hour shift in a very busy covid ravaged hospital with half the staff off sick or isolating- it’s his 4th extra shift in 2 weeks. Some people are just very insular and selfish 😡

I advise never to go to Germany for NYE. A normal residential street could have as many fireworks as the displays on the Thames.

I think NYE, along with 5th November and surrounding weekends (plus Diwali) is one of the times to prepare for fireworks really. I do wish more people would get the low noise ones though. Still as pretty, less intrusive.

@RedHelenB

Yabu, It's New Year after a rubbish year for most . Lighten up a bit.
Okay, next year I'll tell my autistic DD to lighten up because its apparently the only way people can cheer up after a rubbish year. I'll tell the cat too but not sure either of them will understand 🙄
Ilovecaviar · 01/01/2022 11:57

Jeez probably because they’ve got kids and wanted to celebrate. And yes they wanted to celebrate with fireworks, it’s New Year’s Eve, give them moaning a rest!

mumda · 01/01/2022 11:59

There were some during daylight hours here. Quite a few during the evening in the distance, and someone let off the equivalent of a miniature war zone on our street about 9pm.

I assume there are too many eejits with money around. It is a sign of a wealthy country to waste so much money.

They started constantly from about 11.40pm and finished at some point after about 1.10am
I fell asleep then so they might have gone on later.

Brigante9 · 01/01/2022 12:07

About 7pm here. My dm phoned, I asked if she had them round her way. She was like ‘You have fireworks? Is it like some Indian celebration or something?’ Confused She knows it was NYE, she had to come back from a few days away with family due to testing positive.

There were amazing amounts of fireworks from 11.50-12.20, I took the dogs into the garden to watch.

People been firing fireworks horizontally at people. A few months ago a little one in pram was badly burnt. Theres a petition to get government to debate sale of fireworks, if it reaches 100,000 signatures BEFORE 14 JANUARY. Here is link to change.org Smile
