Early Fireworks

You’ve bought fireworks to let the New Year in, fair enough.

Why are you setting them off at 10:30pm and not 12:00 midnight?

They've been going off all night here, I'm so sick of the constant noise. I'm in favour of a ban on the general public being able to buy fireworks - organised displays only.

CandyCaneLane0 · 31/12/2021 23:44

Been going off since early afternoon here

Clutterbugsmum · 31/12/2021 23:54

We had them going off since 2pm this afternoon.

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 01/01/2022 00:05

I hate the fucking things, been going on here for over 20 minutes. All kids in the house now wide awake and crying, probably thought they were in some sort of war zone. Still going strong now, just give it a rest!

sageandbasil · 01/01/2022 00:08

They're driving me crazy. I've been trying to sleep ready for the night feeds and I haven't got a wink because they've been going ALL FUCKING NIGHT

RavenBrooke · 01/01/2022 00:10

Been going off since 4 here....my 8month old is bawling her eyes out. SN ds running around with excitement- hasn't even fallen asleep yet and he "went to bed" at 8.
Can't stand the bloody things

PurBal · 01/01/2022 00:10

We had a few at 1030 but mostly just started. I don’t know if I’m more mad that DH slept through the fireworks or our screaming son who woke up at 1145. Grr.

Tillyvonpantsalo · 01/01/2022 00:11

Must be bloody terrifying for wildlife. Wish they were banned.

Policyschmolicy · 01/01/2022 00:12

I too have fireworks rage. Going off steadily since about 8pm here. And bloody constantly now for the last half hour. It’s like living in a war zone.

stilldumdedumming · 01/01/2022 00:12

Different time zones - people celebrating in their home country time zone. I love it. We have Lithuanian and Polish celebrations here for years.

Policyschmolicy · 01/01/2022 00:15

And now I have my wide awake 7yo with me. FML

prettycolours · 01/01/2022 00:15

I do understand the logic of doing them earlier for kids' sake (though I still don't really agree with it) but one house round here had an elaborate display at 23.40! Surely you'd just wait until midnight at that point?! It baffles me.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/01/2022 00:16

The last time I saw our cat this distressed and hiding squeezed under the sofa was the day we brought her home, five years ago. Tonight has been absolutely brutal.

We’re in Scotland where the “advice” is not to socialise, restrictions on hospitality, nightclubs closed - I wonder if that has made it worse with people celebrating at home?

Rosebel · 01/01/2022 00:17

Been going off since 5 here too and still going on now (presumably not the same people).
DD2 has been freaking out with each bang and the cat isn't too pleased either.

PlanBea · 01/01/2022 00:18

Another vote for banning the sale of fireworks. They woke up 7 month old DS after he'd had an hour and a half of sleep, since then he's been up every hour as he does when he has had a bit of sleep but not enough. Theres no need for them to be so loud, the local wildlife must be terrified.

SachaStark2 · 01/01/2022 00:19

They really ought to be restricted to public displays only. You don’t NEED to create small explosions to celebrate a special occasion, play some games and have a cheeseboard or something.

SpudsForBreakfast · 01/01/2022 00:20

It is and they should be banned, leaving Public displays only.

There was a very distressing story the other day, about a roe buck which was terrified by the fireworks back in November. It became entangled in a fence, tearing its antlers out in the process and it suffered other injuries which it died from a few weeks later.

SpudsForBreakfast · 01/01/2022 00:21

People seem to feel the need to celebrate the opening of a crisp packet with bloody fireworks now.

Vapeyvapevape · 01/01/2022 00:22

We’ve had them going for hours and by the loudness of the bangs they sound as if they should be at a proper display rather than peoples gardens.

Hoardasurass · 01/01/2022 00:25

I hear you op I was out with ddog for an early last walk and had to cut it short at 6:30 due to people letting off fireworks in the bloody dog park Angry

Seemslikeagoodidea · 01/01/2022 00:30

Personally I'd like fireworks restricted to public displays and certain nights only, but until that happens people will continue to buy them and let them off randomly, before during and after the key dates and times that most people expect to hear them. The fact that fireworks are let off intermittently for hours on end just adds to the stress for pets, wildlife and nervous people. I detest the ones that sound like bombs - what sort of twat thinks these are "fun" to listen to?!?

OTOH, it's been such a difficult time for so many people, I guess they want to let off steam. It was manic here from about 10 to midnight until about 12.15, now it's all pretty quiet, which is a relief.

thehillswerebright · 01/01/2022 00:31

I didn't hear any all night until 1 min to midnight when the house in front set off a massive load that were finished by the time the countdown got to 10 seconds 😬

RedHelenB · 01/01/2022 00:33

Yabu, It's New Year after a rubbish year for most . Lighten up a bit.

baffledbunny · 01/01/2022 00:40

They started around 5pm around here, poor little beagle next door was barking his head off. He's quiet now so may be getting used to it.

Luckily it's calmed down a bit now. Was doing my head in a bit earlier.

Darbs76 · 01/01/2022 00:45

Started early here, I saw in my memories from last year that my dog got scared of a loud one at dusk so made sure he did a wee in the garden before 4 incase he didn’t go again (he did at 9pm when it was quiet). He’s been terrified all evening. Hopeful they are finished - but only takes one boom to set him off again
