Have we been cleverly fobbed off by Christian g.p g.p?

Ran dd15 physical symptoms by G.p . She said bring in dd to have e.c.g and that she thought she could have p.o.ts syndrome.
ECG was fine, blood pressure low on standing but nothing to worry about..But she also said that we were to look up somatic. Is this the same then as hypochondria, if so why not just say! How do I cure the somatic ?

I asked if she had pots, should she have tilt test ? She said no as she was not passing out. So I'm confused. A.i.b.u being confused ?
Also above g.p's head, a framed Bible poster saying that those who believe in Jesus will see their health soar (like eagles wings). So belief will make her well? I'm sure there was some mention of once she has this diagnosis, she won't have to knock on medical doors (well what if she does need to consult, what is this about ?!) .

Where are you that GPs are running ECG in their surgery?

Serenschintte · 31/12/2021 21:22

It’s a shame you seem biased against Christians.
See a second opinion or go back for more explanation from your daughters GP.

UltraVividLament · 31/12/2021 21:24

POTS is a medical condition. "Somatic" I think refers to somatic symptom disorder which is a variation of hypochondria.

OP, the doctor being a Christian is not relevant here. You are asking questions here that are properly addressed to the GP not people on a chat forum. For whatever reason it seems like you're having a communication problem with this specific GP. I would ask if you could see a different GP and make a list of questions before you go so that you don't miss anything out. If they say something you don't understand or you don't understand what the next steps are (if any), then say so in the appointment.

Viviennemary · 31/12/2021 21:27

Your post is very confusing. Never heard of pots.

Totallyfoodedout · 31/12/2021 21:28

You may not have read my post @Drinkwinewithme, but I have explained the verse.

Look at it this way, if the verse wasn't up there, what would your feelings be about your consultation? If alright, then let the G.P have his / her verse that probably gives them comfort.
I've leaned on this verse many times, but it does not affect my work.

DroopyClematis · 31/12/2021 21:30

What's a g.p.g.p. ?

saraclara · 31/12/2021 21:31

@MadMadMadamMim

Are you bigoted against all religions? Or just Christians?

The majority of the Asian doctors at our surgery are Muslim. I don't have an issue with it. Are medical practitioners not allowed to have a faith? Do you think it somehow affects their training and medical knowledge?

My entire family of in laws are strongly Christian. I love them dearly and respect their faith and how it influences their lives. My late husband's absolutely wonderful oncologist was/is devout Catholic and leads groups of the sick to Lourdes (though I only know those facts because I googled him).

However, I am strongly against a Christian doctor having a sign in their surgery wall that basically tells all their patients to turn to Jesus if they want better health.

It's simply wrong, and disrespectful to those of any other faith or none. It's telling them that their lack of good health could be down to them not being Christian.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 31/12/2021 21:34

I would rather have a doctor who believes in God than a doctor who believes he IS God.

rooarsome · 31/12/2021 21:34

There are 2 issues here- the investigation for POTS and the framed print. Is the print similar to what @Totallyfoodedout has posted?

saleorbouy · 31/12/2021 21:35

Have your faith but don't bring it to work. I don't care who you believe in and I don't want to know either.
Your GP should administer medical advice without religion affecting the quality of the advice.
To be frank why is God making people ill if he's such a great man?

Totallyfoodedout · 31/12/2021 21:37

🤦🏻‍♀️ The sign does not say to turn to Jesus for good health. It does not mean that at all (if it's the verse I think, although the OP is not commenting on that)

Hydrate · 31/12/2021 21:44

No religious paraphernalia ought to be in a doctor's office.

Totallyfoodedout · 31/12/2021 21:45

@saleorbouy I think that's what is unclear though; whether the OP is put off by the verse or the quality of the consultation, or both.
I wouldn't care about a religious verse (from any faith) but I would want quality medical advice.

ilssagain · 31/12/2021 21:49

Are you in the UK?
The religious poster is completely inappropriate and I say that as a practising Christian.

Can you go to another GP in the same practice for a second opinion?

KatieB55 · 31/12/2021 21:50

Look on youtube for video on how to do active stand test - you can do at home to see if POTS.
Look at Dysautonomia International website.

saraclara · 31/12/2021 21:52

@Hydrate

No religious paraphernalia ought to be in a doctor's office.
Exactly.
HyggeTygge · 31/12/2021 21:55

"Somatic" literally means "relating to the body". If you were worried by the word you need to give the context it was used in.

topcat2014 · 31/12/2021 21:57

How anyone clever enough to be a gp believes in religion is beyond me.

HoppingPavlova · 31/12/2021 21:59

Teenage girls are renowned for low bp at times, and no, from the account you have given hypochondria was not mentioned, you seem to have made that up as are looking for a problem.

DroopyClematis · 31/12/2021 22:00

To those saying that Christian stuff shouldn't be on display in a doctor's office I say tell your child's school to end Christian assemblies.

Christian paraphernalia here is a misnomer.
The OP was concerned about a diagnosis.

Totallyfoodedout · 31/12/2021 22:00

@topcat2014 it's a shame that people have to resort to insulting other people for having a faith isn't it.
It's also a shame that it's beyond you. Perhaps think a little harder and it might not be 'beyond you'.

PurplePeculiar · 31/12/2021 22:02

@Ireolu

What does the GPs religion have to do with their ability or inability to make a diagnosis? Nothing.
It has impacted me in the past (reproductive health)
MmeSosostris · 31/12/2021 22:05

topcat2014

How anyone clever enough to be a gp believes in religion is beyond me.

Perhaps their intelligence led them there.🤔

saraclara · 31/12/2021 22:05

There are religious people at the highest levels of science.

A friend of mine is one of the most eminent biologists in the country. It is her work and what she's discovered about the incredible intricacy of the natural world and the human body, that leads her to wonder how it could possibly exist.

Obviously scientists with a faith are unlikely to belong to fundamentalist religions (my friend obviously doesn't believe that the world was created in seven days etc). But faith and intelligence are clearly not mutually exclusive.

Butchyrestingface · 31/12/2021 22:08

I hope this OP comes back, preferably in their current state of sobriety.
