To ask how you find WFH jobs

I hate going into the office, it's horrible, I hate the commute and more importantly I hate the lack of work life balance when in the office full time. I'm also scared of covid and fed up of working in a high risk environment!

On threads I see people spout well get a permanent WFH job to anyone who dares complain...well I've been looking now for 3 months and have yet to find one which isn't WFH for now but will return to the office type thing. Can anyone help me out?

Background is management in administration

Local council? They're desperate for us not to go back full time, to save money.

Kleopatrared · 31/12/2021 19:39

I second local council.

bestdhever · 31/12/2021 19:42

Not all jobs advertise as WFH jobs though OP so there are loads of jobs that do but you might not realise they do (especially right now!) my friends dh has always worked from home and he works for a well known bank.
My dh is an engineer in pharma...he works from home mostly...surprisingly.

Boopear · 31/12/2021 19:45

If you look on LinkedIn most job ads specify remote (wfh), on site (office) or hybrid (mixture). You'd obviously have to verify in the application process, but it is a good place to start. You can also filter by remote jobs.

Snozzlemaid · 31/12/2021 19:56

Yes. Council here too. We're WFH permanently now.

HikingforScenery · 31/12/2021 19:56

Most employers are willing to let people work from home at least some of the time, if it’s possible to do that in the role. Ask.

Belledan1 · 31/12/2021 19:58

There is a filter now on Indeed for wfh jobs.

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2021 19:58

If you look on Google Jobs there’s loads

AlternativePerspective · 31/12/2021 20:01

There really aren’t many full-time work from home jobs out there.

The ones on indeed are primarily voluntary jobs, and the ones on linkedin tend to be for marketing/cold calling etc.

I’d imagine if councils are trying to save money they won’t be recruiting much until the beginning of the next financial year at least.

maddening · 31/12/2021 20:04

Mine is going to be hybrid, so 2 days in the office.

Which sector are you in? Which county do you live in?

How fixed are you to your local geography?

Redwinestillfine · 31/12/2021 20:05

Any public sector job should flexible ( it's the pay off for not getting paid as much)

Boopear · 31/12/2021 20:07

Ummm...I worked in corporate IT/now in product delivery and almost every LinkedIn role is WFH. My boss (senior management role) is 100% remote. It is most definitely not just cold calling type roles!

Chishnfips · 31/12/2021 20:08

There are a couple of aggregate recruitment search sites for remote jobs only like Otta, Flexajobs and Tiger.

ShelbyLimitedCo · 31/12/2021 20:09

Hmmm maybe I'm not filtering correctly. Lots that I click on say remote in the title then when reading down it states that it is temporarily remote...

Will continue to dig!

Agree with this. My current job was not advertised as WFH. Mainly because they wanted someone who wanted that role, not just any old job that let them WFH. I applied for it assuming I would have an hours commute each way so I was very pleased when they said on the interview it was WFH.
Lochnessgiraffe · 31/12/2021 20:11

I started a new IT wfh job recently there seemed to be loads. There are definitely wfh / remote jobs on LinkedIn.

Lindy2 · 31/12/2021 20:14

I found my WFH job through a local Facebook group. It was advertised on there.

I WFH doing admin for a trades person. I think often it's the small companies that go for WFH as it saves overheads. There's literally no office for me to work from other than my home and when we do meet it's in a coffee shop/restaurant.

I don't get the big corporate perks but I do get flexibility and no commute.

Cakecakecheese · 31/12/2021 20:15

My job was an office job until 9 years ago when my department was moved to permanent home working. Unfortunately we've only just hired some new starters so I don't think there's any vacancies just now but if you PM me your email address I can let you know when there are some.

BookFiend4Life · 31/12/2021 20:18

You can also negotiate wfh. I stipulated only being able to go in to the office 1-2 days per week

Justkeeppedaling · 31/12/2021 20:34

Look at Nationwide Building Society. 905% of jobs are location agnostic now, and they are always recruiting.

NothingIsWrong · 31/12/2021 20:36

Our council is permanent WFH. The main reason I left in February for an office based job.

purpledagger · 31/12/2021 20:36

I recently got a WFH job. In other roles I've had, there has always been the expectation that I'd have to be in the office a couple of days a week, so I was surprised to find a role that was 100% WFH. It does pay less than what I'm used to, but i changed my search criteria on job sites to include lower salaries and found this role.

Many companies, particularly in the public sector are moving towards hybrid models, where you may only be required in the office 1-2 days a week, so it may be worth considering roles like that, as you may be able to negotiate. Charity's are another good place to try. I've worked in the charity sector and it can be difficult to recruit good staff, so they may be more open to flexible working - but salaries can be low.

Also try and look for roles off the beaten track. I'd normally look for roles via my professional body, but I found my role on Indeed. Not a job board, I'd normally look at. But not all company's can afford the big job boards.

AlDanvers · 31/12/2021 20:36

To be fair, most wfh are avtuly hybrid as they would require you to go in occasionally. Or have a caveat that says there maybe time they need you to come in, even if it's once a year.

StiltonIsLife · 31/12/2021 20:38

Tech/ IT. And I'd recommend LinkedIn for job search. Salaries are generally good as well. Good luck!

Luckyducky75 · 31/12/2021 20:38

Go through an agency, that's how I found FT WFH.
