Yes, dd (7) is desperate to. She's done it since she was 5 and hasn't lost its shine yet!

switswoo81 · 31/12/2021 18:20

No mine are too young (7 and 4). I wouldn't know what to do with them for the extra 4 hours!
Plus I probably will fall asleep myself.

dancinfeet · 31/12/2021 18:22

Yes, but then again she is 17 so doesn’t usually go to bed until after midnight in school holidays anyway. I on the other hand may be in bed by half past 10

TheCanyon · 31/12/2021 18:24

We always let them, it usually ends in 2/3 out of 4 asleep on the sofa. Dts haven't yet managed it but ds had a cat nap so he may well make it, dd will be raging if she falls asleep and he sees in the bells.

I was up at 4 though so I may well be sleeping on the sofa instead Grin

Pegasussnail · 31/12/2021 18:24

Nope bed at 8pm as usual though we are having a little party before then.

danyD29 · 31/12/2021 18:29

One of my friends let's hers stay up until 9 and she pretends it's midnight & plays the BBC new year london fireworks from the previous year. Then they all cheer and the kids go to bed thinking they celebrated new year 😂

Rno3gfr · 31/12/2021 18:32

@danyD29 thanks for the tip!

Oh this is genius!
Xmasiscancelledagain · 31/12/2021 18:35

My kids aren't bothered by it. They stay up later in the holidays but usually take themselves upstairs to watch cartoons in bed by 8pm. Sometimes they get woken by fireworks and stay up to see them. But DS2 usually sleeps right through it all.

soundsystem · 31/12/2021 18:36

My 7yo is going to attempt it. 4yo is getting ready for bed now and I've promised to wake him up at 11.30 to see in the New Year. 2yo is a nightmare sleeper so us going to bed as normal with the expectation she'll wander back downstairs at some point!

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 31/12/2021 18:38

Nope, dd is 6 but absolutely wouldn’t cope with it. She’s awful when she’s tired! Maybe next year….

rrhuth · 31/12/2021 18:38

I asked my youngest and they said 'why would I do that?' so I guess not! The others are out.

Oh I love this.
GaolBhoAlba · 31/12/2021 18:39

Ive just the one (11yo) and she will be staying up for the bells.

NerrSnerr · 31/12/2021 18:40

Mine are 7 and 4 and are staying up as late as they can. The 4 year old will probably stay up until 10 and I suspect the 7 year old will see in the new year. They're both sleep dodgers anyway and haven't been out today so it would have been a late night anyway.

trumpisagit · 31/12/2021 18:50

I wouldn't fake new year though. Midnight's really late, if you let them stay up then at least they realise that.
I would do it properly (age 9 ish) onwards or put them to bed a normal time, and enjoy it as adults (or go to bed!).

Coasterfan · 31/12/2021 18:50

Mind are 12 and 14 it’s a battle getting them to bed before midnight on a school night!! Up until last year we always went away for new year, they were 3 and 5 the first time and always stayed awake from then!

Rosebel · 31/12/2021 18:58

My older two are teenagers so they will be. I think they first managed it at about 7 or 8. Before then we used to pretend it was midnight
Youngest is 18 months so will be going to bed at 7:30 as usual.

rainbowandglitter · 31/12/2021 19:14

Ds is 12 and will be staying up. I've always let him stay up to see it in regardless of his age.

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 31/12/2021 19:20

DS is 9 and for the past couple of years has tried, bless him.
This year he is bloody determined, so we'll see.
He's a night owl anyway, but generally falls asleep just before midnight.
We are just about to start monopoly so it could well be going on till midnight anyway!

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 31/12/2021 19:24

No only because I plan to be in bed asleep by then and hopefully not get woken up by fireworks

2022willbebetter · 31/12/2021 19:24

Always. Hogmanay is a family celebration in Scotland.

girlmom21 · 31/12/2021 19:26

I've got a 2 year old and a 3 month old and DP and I have tested positive today.
Im hoping we're all fast asleep before this shite year is out!
