Chances of transmission

LucozadeGirl · 31/12/2021 15:40

I was with my friend all day yesterday in her house as our kids were having a post Xmas playdate. We all tested before meeting and all negative. She messaged me this morning and told me she woke up feeling tough so did an LFT which was positive. Awaiting her PCR but likely she'll be positive as she has symptoms now too. What are the chances of transmission? Indoors all together for about four hours. Incidentally today I feel exhausted.

Personally think it's pot luck if you get it or not.

TwilightSkies · 31/12/2021 15:47

If it’s Omicron I’d say chances would be pretty high as it’s so transmissible.

skaiahsn · 31/12/2021 15:47

We had this at Xmas and unfortunately others there have now got it from the person who tested negative on the day but positive the day after.

AnxiousHeffalump · 31/12/2021 15:48

Chances are high, I reckon, as you were indoors for so long.

Dozer · 31/12/2021 15:48

Have you had three jabs?

iamruth · 31/12/2021 15:50

Well only 3/5 in the house have so far tested positive and we’re on day 5 since the first symptoms. I think it’s total luck.

CuddlyDudley · 31/12/2021 16:28

We've had covid in the house over Christmas, looks like Omicron from symptoms of dp, ds had no symptoms at all. surprisingly I didn't test positive at all despite being with them throughout, think it's random how it's transmitted. We had also spent time with family the day before and none of them have come down with it either

7eleven · 31/12/2021 16:48

I’m in the same position and so far (3 days) have tested negative.

LucozadeGirl · 31/12/2021 20:22

Can get LFTs anywhere. Tried 5 pharmacies today. I have five left but will need to use some on kids before school and myself (teacher).

I wouldn't waste an LFT today. I'd wait for tomorrow or Sunday at least unless you get symptoms

Lindy2 · 31/12/2021 20:30

I think it's quite a high chance as you were together at a very infectious time for a prolonged period of time.

Your vaccination status is also important. If you've had 3 jabs you're clearly a lot more protected than if you're not vaccinated.

I hope your friend recovers quickly and that you get lucky and avoid it.

Rhayader · 31/12/2021 21:04

Very high. But if you have three jabs then you might be okay. It took me 8 days to catch it off my husband (I have 3 jabs) and we didn’t isolate from each other at all. DD (unvaccinated) caught it off him after 3-4 days.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/12/2021 21:05

My husband had omicron and we didn’t distance, neither I nor toddler DD got it

SheikhMaraca · 31/12/2021 21:07

18% chance for intra household transmission (for people living together) for Omicron,10% for Delta.

So this, but probably a bit less as you only spent one day together.

LucozadeGirl · 31/12/2021 22:12

I'm triple jabbed but obviously my kids aren't, both primary aged. I felt absolutely whacked this afternoon and spent all afternoon in bed asleep. were seeing family tomorrow, in-laws of 70 and assorted nephews and nieces. Not sure if this is the right thing to do, although I know we're "allowed".

Quite high if it’s omicron.

advicenotsure · 31/12/2021 22:14

My 2 year old has just tested +. My partner also positive 2 days ago. I have a really sore throat but not showing on a LF yet.. trying to book PCR's is a bit challenging!

Partner managed to get one.

This was all contact on Christmas Day.

advicenotsure · 31/12/2021 22:14

Forgot to add. 3 other people in the same room are all + too now.

Darbs76 · 31/12/2021 22:14

Don’t see relatives if you have symptoms (and you do as fatigue is one of top symptoms). That would be crazy. I’d also let anyone I see know I’ve been in close contact with covid so they have the chance to say they’d rather leave it

carlyswirly · 31/12/2021 22:15

Don't go. I tested positive for omicron 10 days after I was exposed. First symptoms were exhaustion and a feeling of feeling a bit feeble and off colour.

GreenLunchBox · 31/12/2021 22:16

I'd say pretty certain

FortniteBoysMum · 31/12/2021 22:16

High. Ds was fine Monday, had symptoms Tuesday so took test and was positive. Isolated in his room until pcr which confirmed his positive. Dp is now positive awaiting pcr result. Only I same room for an hour as dp was at work. Had my booster 3 weeks ago so here is hoping I stay negative but not holding out much hope of that.

Roses1221 · 31/12/2021 22:16

In my recent experience, I think chances are quite high. I’d say your tiredness could well be the start of symptoms. I haven’t had the temp/cough/taste or smell symptoms at all but have been very tired, achey, headache and generally feeling a bit ‘spaced out’.

TenLittleDinos · 31/12/2021 22:17

What’s your AIBU?

TenLittleDinos · 31/12/2021 22:19

But anyway, it’s impossible to say. I’ve just had it (tested positive 2 weeks ago). My middle child caught it from me, DH, eldest DC and youngest DC didn’t. They’ve tested negative on LFT’s and PCR throughout. We didn’t isolate from each other at all.
