I went out for a walk this evening and really enjoyed seeing the Christmas lights and decorations out.

With the rising numbers, January swiftly approaching and the gloom of wet, dark days, who's with me to ask everyone to keep the decorations up for January?

I like this idea! Someone near me did it last year and it was nice seeing an illuminated snowman every night Smile On the other hand I can see some other people near me have already stopped switching their lights on Sad

I read this article about the idea of keeping lights up last Jan. Just found it again:

I voted YANBU because I love seeing other people's decorations and seeing Christmas spirit but personally I can't join you in your worthy crusade as mine are down and boxed as of yesterday!

Ours is coming down on the 2nd, as our house is tiny and we really need the space, but we're keeping the outdoor lights up as "winter lights". Plus they're wound round a climbing rose and it's hard to get them down without being proggled!

I'm going to get some lovely flowers and scented candles for indoor cheer.

No its easter season now sorry

2pinkginsplease · 31/12/2021 11:23

Ours will stay up until the 4th as I go back to work on the 5th.

I don’t understand people who say they want to start the new year with a clean and tidy house, my house is still clean and tidy with the decorations up.

I find indoor fairy lights outside of the Christmas period rather cringe sorry - sort of thing my 13 year old likes in her befroom

shouldistop · 31/12/2021 11:24

We have a real tree so it will be going out in the next few days. We'll keep our outdoor lights on for January thought I think as they cheer me up and I hate January

RuggerHug · 31/12/2021 11:28

They come down in time for womens Christmas but I'm considering keeping some of the little lights out for a bit more this year..

RavenT · 31/12/2021 11:29

I love putting decs up but equally enjoy taking them down, usually on the 2nd Jan. Always buy some pretty flowers and have some candles throughout Jan. I like a clean slate and sense if newness for the new year.

Snowiscold · 31/12/2021 11:30

It’s still the Christmas period until Candlemas. www.english-heritage.org.uk/about-us/search-news/leave-your-decorations-up/

Grapewrath · 31/12/2021 11:33

I take mine down between Xmas and new year. Christmas decorations in dreary January look forlorn and bedraggled to me as Christmas is over.
I have fairy lights in my home all year round though

Kitkat151 · 31/12/2021 11:33

Mine came down on the 28th .....all done and dusted....love it

Lucked · 31/12/2021 11:34

I try for as close to the 6th as possible but it depends on work, I will take them down on my last day off but which varies as I am NHS. I am off on the 5th so I have that earmarked as the day.

lollipoprainbow · 31/12/2021 11:36

Just found out that our local council will be recycling Christmas trees from 13th January so I'm inclined to keep mine up until then !

gogohm · 31/12/2021 11:37

Tree coming down on 6th but leaving the outside lights up permanently
