To take my Christmas tree down tomorrow?

We've had a nice (if quiet) Christmas, but we're not doing anything on New Year's Eve and we have no guests expected until after then.

It hasn't been up very long, but there just doesn't seem any point in leaving it up.

YABU = No! leave it up until 6th Jan.
YANBU = Bye, tree!

Took the tree down yesterday but the window lights and outdoor tree with lights are still there. Just like to clear some space in the living room

I like to start the new year with a fresh house, and ready for the new chapter and feel I can't do that with last years' tree! We air the house with the windows open, and have a deep clean - it feels almost like good therapy. Out with the old, in with the new!

Tumbleweed101 · 30/12/2021 09:14

Took mine down yesterday. Used to leave it up longer but this year Christmas has been a bit weird with unwell family members and hasn’t felt the same. Want to give the house a sort and clean before going back to work as will be too busy again then.

emmathedilemma · 30/12/2021 09:19

I took mine down on Tuesday morning before I came away so I can go back to a tidy house after new year and not have to faff about in the loft before going back to work aka the dining table.

lanbro · 30/12/2021 09:20

Took mine down yesterday, mainly through boredom in isolation!

MostlyGuesswork · 30/12/2021 12:01

I know I don't HAVE to do what MN suggests... I think I just wanted to be swayed one way or the other, as I'm not sure.

We put our tree up on the 15th, so not actually bored with it yet.

Would love to have had loads of guests and parties, but we didn't organise anything with friends because we figured it would probably get cancelled with new rules, and we didn't get invited to anything because we live far from all our family.

Next year we'll be more jolly, but now the tree just reminds me this year has been a bit dull.

I know what you mean about this Christmas but ours is staying up until the 6th in defiance of the lack of full jollity. The cat loves it as well.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 30/12/2021 12:15

Obviously, your tree, your decision!

But, I far prefer to put mine up late (about a week before Christmas), and take it down just before work restarts after New Year.

Don’t really understand those who put tree up ridiculously early. Some were being put up before 1st December, which is plain wrong.

Mother87 · 30/12/2021 14:42

Took mine down two days ago... DS23 rightfully pointed out that it was "ugly" saggy/too wide & short & just not appealing... felt much better when it was goneGrinand have bought an artificial one in the sale for next year...

MoreAloneTime · 30/12/2021 14:50

I just couldn't bring myself to take mine down while it's still December. That's my personal hard limit for whatever reason though we often don't last until 12th night if we're back to work before then.

NewYearNewBeer · 30/12/2021 14:52

Mine will stay for the New Year but come 8am on the 2nd Jan, I'll be initiating the dechristmasification process.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 30/12/2021 14:53

Ours has been taken down today. Feels so much better with a tidy living room!

Plain wrong? What a strong feeling to have towards other people's Christmas trees. Weird
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 30/12/2021 14:59

@gogohm

Christmas isn't over, I think you must all put yours up too early if you are already fed up ... mid November you get the "got my decs up" posts
It might not be over for you. But for a lot of people Christmas is over by around the 27th. I like to be all straight for New year. I don't feel remotely Christmasy now
AlexaShutUp · 30/12/2021 15:00

Mine is coming down tomorrow. I usually leave it till the 6th but this year, I want it gone!!

shouldistop · 30/12/2021 15:01

I'll take mine down before the 3rd as I go back to work on the 5th and want to give the house a good clean and hoover before returning. The tree makes an almighty mess when taken through the house to be chopped up outside.

galacticpixels · 30/12/2021 15:02

Our apartment is small and the tree starts to feel very imposing once Christmas is over (I also don't feel very Christmas-y and am ready for the new year) so we took ours down today.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 30/12/2021 15:04

Im taking mine down New Years Day as imputnit quote late as for the living room decorated but I took down cards and other indoor decorations this morning.
