To take my Christmas tree down tomorrow?

We've had a nice (if quiet) Christmas, but we're not doing anything on New Year's Eve and we have no guests expected until after then.

It hasn't been up very long, but there just doesn't seem any point in leaving it up.

YABU = No! leave it up until 6th Jan.
YANBU = Bye, tree!

@Ceramide

Personally I like to keep it for the 12 day of Christmas, and enjoy seeing others for the full length of time. However it's a free country so do what's best for you.
I also like to keep mine up for the 12 days of Christmas, if only for the sake of my DD. Plus, I like having the decoration lights on in the living room after DD has gone to bed. Cup of tea, in the dark, just the lights, watching Masterchef or something ha Smile

The festive period is short and I like to make the most of it.

But as a pp said, if it's bothering you then just take it down. There's no set rule.

It is, indeed, a free country.

I've already taken my cards and paraphernalia of Christmas. The tree remains with it's white lights.
Probably attic or bin time for all of it forever. Christmas is a consumerist shit show to me.
Fair enough if you have little ones that believe in the magical stuff but in future I'm going to be lying on a beach 🤣

HintofVintagePink · 30/12/2021 06:54

I’ve taken down cards and will gradually put away other bits over the next few days. If I do it all at once it takes the best part of a morning.
The tree gets packed away last and will stay up until twelfth night. I love Christmas and the tree coming down makes me a little sad/nostalgic.
I do enjoy the feeling of space once everything is packed away though. I’m a marketer’s dream as the next thing for me will be a big declutter and clean!

Agadorsparticus · 30/12/2021 06:58

Mine came down yesterday and we had a good clean and tidy. Feels so much better now.

RedRobin100 · 30/12/2021 06:59

Took our decs down yesterday. Was at a loose end, at least now it’s done

Onthegrid · 30/12/2021 07:06

Ours always comes down before we go back to work after New Year’s Day. As the bottom tree has been kindly undecorated by the cat and looks a mess I think it will be down today as I can’t see the point of making it nice again now Christmas is over.

pollygartertidywife · 30/12/2021 07:08

Mine goes up on the 20th and comes down on 12th night.

I am sure that I too would take mine down asap if I had put it up end of Nov/early Dec. I like Christmas decs to cover the festive period and that includes New Year. Seems weird to have NYE without a tree and sparkle .

But all personal choice.

Monty27 · 30/12/2021 07:12

I couldn't believe my eyes on Monday. The Xmas tree recycling area in the park was heaped with trees already. I did stop aghast thinking some Herbert had dumped unsold trees. But no.
They had been used.

traka · 30/12/2021 07:14

As an adult you take it down when you feel its right to do so

You shouldn't have to ask people's opinions

GoodnightGrandma · 30/12/2021 07:15

Mine has gone. It’s only now that I realise how wide it was ! Having the space back is fantastic.

pilates · 30/12/2021 07:17

Probably New Year’s Day as I like to go back to work with a clean clutter-free house

Roselilly36 · 30/12/2021 07:21

Took tree & decs down 28th, couldn’t wait to get home feeling back to normal.

Thatsplentyjack · 30/12/2021 07:25

I sort of want to take mine down. But we are all stuck in with covid and I still quite like looking at the twinkly lights. If I was put and about I would probably take it down tomorrow.

SlashBeef · 30/12/2021 07:38

Ours came down yesterday. The whole 12 days of Christmas tying doesn't apply in our house. I don't want a tree up into the new year. It's your house and your tree so you get to decide.

mogsrus · 30/12/2021 07:41

Ours is down why wait? If you want it out the way get rid.

UnsuitableHat · 30/12/2021 07:45

You don’t even have to put a tree up if you don’t want to so you certainly don’t need permission to take it down. I’m having guests on 2 Jan and mine will be down after that.

UserError012345 · 30/12/2021 07:46

Of course YANBU

trumpisagit · 30/12/2021 08:05

I would love to take ours down, but everyone else wants to keep it. I will take it down after New Year.
I love it up until Christmas and after that it annoys me.

DumpedByText · 30/12/2021 08:07

Mine came down on the 27th! 😂

Newyearoldyou · 30/12/2021 08:13

Mine goes up about two weeks before Xmas and will stay up until we feel ready to take it down. Sometimes that's quite soon into January, sometimes it's been up until February. It's particularly lovely to have it up still when it snows

I find January too harsh to rip it all down though and after the mad build up rush of Christmas it's this time now that I can enjoy it all.

gogohm · 30/12/2021 08:22

I'm leaving mine up until 6th, it's pretty.

gogohm · 30/12/2021 08:24

Christmas isn't over, I think you must all put yours up too early if you are already fed up ... mid November you get the "got my decs up" posts

escapingthecity · 30/12/2021 08:49

Took ours down a couple of days ago. It was shedding all over the place.

Hotyogahotchoc · 30/12/2021 09:06

why would anyone else care when you take your tree down OP?

YANBU to take your tree down when you like

YABU to ask Mumsnet

Fairylights25 · 30/12/2021 09:07

We took our decorations down on the 27th and it felt great! Lovely clean and bright house. We have kept a few fairy lights up and light candles, so it still feels very cosy. Christmas is finished so take your tree down when you feel like it!
