Would you collect this?

If someone was selling something locally, would you collect it if you knew they had Covid?

They have said they’ll put it out under their carport and we can post the money through their letterbox. If we wore gloves to collect, would this be safe? How long would you quarantine it once home before touching it?

It’s a baby bundle - bouncer, playmat and car seat.

YABU: no you shouldn’t collect yet

YANBU: yes it’s safe to collect if you wear gloves and quarantine it when you got home.

I would, they might really need the money.
Then I'd quarantine it.

LouLou198 · 29/12/2021 22:45

No I wouldn't, and from the items you are collecting I'm assuming your pregnant? Not worth the risk.

SoniaFouler · 29/12/2021 22:45

For goodness sake, yes. It’s not leprosy.🙄

massiveblob · 29/12/2021 22:47

Yes I'd collect. I wouldn't wear gloves. I'd just give it all a wipe down as normal with second hand baby stuff. I'd use Milton of similar.
(But then everyone I know has either had or has Covid & it's not transmitted like this)
Covid is spread in air. People get infected by breathing in Covid laden air indoors. I can't really see the risk.

Showpan · 29/12/2021 22:49

Yes, and clean and treat it as I'd do anything.

TooWicked · 29/12/2021 22:50

I’d never buy a second hand baby car seat anyway, covid or not.

Bowlofcereal · 29/12/2021 22:51

Yes, I would collect it

nextdoorslawnmower · 29/12/2021 22:52

Not the car seat. But the rest is fine.

horsemadgal · 29/12/2021 22:53

I wouldn't buy a second hand car seat regardless, but other stuff fine.

ClearButtons · 29/12/2021 22:53

Yes of course I would.

Rainbowabacus1 · 29/12/2021 23:07

For those saying we shouldn’t collect yet, what part do you feel is risky and made you vote it was too risky. (More of you than I thought!)
Haven’t made up my mind yet Blush

Ohyesiam · 29/12/2021 23:10

As a pp days covid uses aerosol transmission. When it was new and we didn’t understand it properly people were wiping down surfaces, this is no longer deemed necessary.
But don’t take it from me, Google it

riiichteeabiiscuit · 29/12/2021 23:12

If I really needed/wanted the items I would.

I'd wear gloves and spray it all with antibacterial spray to be really safe, but it's probably not necessary to do that anymore.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 29/12/2021 23:13

Yes, just tell the package you are triple jabbed and do a LFT on it before you go.

I would collect it OP and if it makes you feel better quarantine it in a garage/shed then wash the items.

MissMaple82 · 29/12/2021 23:13

Lost for words...

MarceyMc · 29/12/2021 23:24

Collect it (not the car seat), wipe it down, job done.

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 23:29

Yes I would collect something, I would just either wear gloves or wash my hands afterwards.

I am another who would not use a secondhand car seat though...

@HeddaGarbled

I didn't know this either. Recently when my husband was isolating from me in the house he made sure not to touch light switches and so on.. because we just thought it could still be transmitted on surfaces.

No need to call someone 'ignorant' - if the information has never presented itself to them via media or conversations etc, and they haven't gone out looking for it, then that'll be why they don't know.

Cas112 · 30/12/2021 09:46

Yes course

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 30/12/2021 12:53

No bigger risk than buying off a shelf where a positive person may have handled the goods.

zingally · 30/12/2021 14:23

Of course I'd go and get it. I'd probably quarantine it for a few days, and then give it a good clean - but you'd clean it anyway!

It's not any different from touching an item in a shop that someone positive might have touched. At least the seller was honest enough to give you then heads up.

Isababybel · 30/12/2021 14:30

Yes i was thinking this! And with normal shopping you probably wouldn't even quarantine it whereas in this case at least op knows to.
WindyState · 30/12/2021 14:37

In reality COVID doesn't spread via surface transmission. If you want to be cautious wear gloves and give the items a good clean down or simply stick them in the garage for a couple of days.

girlmom21 · 30/12/2021 14:47

I'd collect them and anti bac them when I got them home but I wouldn't buy a second hand car seat
