We are due to fly to Lanzarote on 15th January. Should we go?

Just that really, I know it will be a hassle and extra costs with tests etc. but I just don't know what to do. No major health concerns to consider.

I would go of not in a at risk category!

WallaceinAnderland · 29/12/2021 18:36

I wouldn't.

Alconleigh · 29/12/2021 18:36

Did 5 nights in Tenerife in early December. Totally worth it. Even though they changed the rules when we were out there so we had to sort out a test before returning. I'd definitely go!

Insertfunnyname · 29/12/2021 18:37

Yes definitely. I wish everyone would stop being scared of a sniffle. Go and enjoy yourself. You’ve no more chance of catching it there than here.

Tevion28 · 29/12/2021 18:38

If you have money to isolate if you catch covid whilst there then go for it.

Normski67 · 29/12/2021 18:39

Masks are required outside at all times apart from when you’re eating and drinking or sunbathing, so for that alone I wouldn’t as I don’t want to have to wear one whilst walking around outside. If you don’t mind that I’d go.

Teeheehee1579 · 29/12/2021 18:41

Yes, go. Why would you not?

Tevion28 · 29/12/2021 18:42

I was due to go to the canaries 2nd of January but we have moved the date as I've been told its a nightmare at the minute.

Roselilly36 · 29/12/2021 18:43

I love Lanzarote, if I had the chance to go I would. Have a lovely holiday.

Tevion28 · 29/12/2021 18:44

The police are constantly on your back and you have to wear the mask in the hotel as well and long queues to get your pre departure test to return to UK.

Pixiedown123 · 29/12/2021 18:44

I'm in Lanzarote now. You only have to wear a mask outside if it's crowded. Having a great holiday

MarshmallowFondant · 29/12/2021 18:46

Of course I'd go. January is wet and cold and miserable and Lanzarote is warm and sunny.

How long are you planning to not do anything or go anywhere for? Because Covid is going nowhere.

Pixiedown123 · 29/12/2021 18:47

We ordered pre departure and day two tests online, and have them with us, so no queues. Masks indoors until sitting in bar/restaurant.

We went in a bus tour to the volcano today, masks on the bus, and at the visitor center outdoors as it was busy, but not otherwise.

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 29/12/2021 18:49

How would you feel if you caught covid out there or got stuck there if the rules changed? If you're OK with that then go, and have a lovely time it sounds lush.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/12/2021 18:51

Absolutely.

Firstshoes · 29/12/2021 18:52

I moved mine. Not because I'm scared of catching covid but the added tests and mask wearing is not my idea of a holiday at all

MakeMineALarge1 · 29/12/2021 18:55

I am due to fly out - not to lanzarote - can't wait - the mask wearing is an easy adaption and the form filling is ok if you're organised and can manage to navigate a smart phone

How have you worked the chance out?

Is there a website that will do it for you, does it do the chance for the US too? My DB and SIL are due to go and I know they'd appreciate knowing the comparison, obviously the length of the flight is a factor and the relative cases per 1000. An algorithm to assess the risk would be really useful, TIA

oldandscunnered · 29/12/2021 18:57

Insurance says it pays for reasonable transport and accommodation if we have to isolate but I'm not sure what that means. I think you can organise your tests with the tour operator and you send them a picture of your lateral flow result. You also have to take a pcr test when you come back and isolate until you get the result.

It's completely up to you what level of risk you are happy with

EileenGC · 29/12/2021 19:06

@GiveMeMyKeys I doubt there is an algorithm, but common sense will tell you that there’s a smaller chance of catching Covid somewhere with an incidence of 300 compared to a town in England with an incidence of 1800 (making numbers up).

If you compare incidences, upward/downward trend, vaccinated population… you can figure out if there’s a higher or lower chance of catching Covid in country/area X.

Of course you can catch it anywhere, but right now the Canaries are (mathematically) much safer Covid-wise than anywhere in the UK really.

USaYwHatNow · 29/12/2021 19:11

We cancelled a trip to Germany before Christmas, more because the price of PCR tests were more than our hotel! I also didn't really like the idea of being stuck there if the borders closed over Xmas, or if we had to isolate in a hotel for 10 days! If we were staying for longer, and flying further away and it wasn't so easy to cancel we probably would've just gone.

hohohooooo · 29/12/2021 19:11

I went in December and had a lovely time.

I know that bit but I don't know how you factor in for the flight as I've read that a lot of people have been contacted via the passenger locator forms because of being on the same plane as someone who tested positive. The poster who posted first said the risk was the no more than here so presumably the higher flight risk cancels out the lower rate per 1000 there.

As I said I'm interested for my DB but I know it's probably not easy to calculate

KeyWorker · 29/12/2021 20:57

We’re also going to the canaries on the 15th January. We never considered not going but trying to get my head round what I need to organise is giving me headache!
