Feel free to join in with your own mysteries .... I've got several, but I'll kick off with this one:

Mystery One.
How can my DH get the dirty plates to the worktop above the (empty) dishwasher, but not be arsed to open the door and pop them in? .... How? Just how? ... it's a mystery to me...

I haven't got a photo but how can my dc eat a sandwich off the biggest plate in the world and yet still get crumbs all over the table and the floor?

@lightisnotwhite

I can’t take a photo as too outing but my mystery is the house itself.

How could an architect who has many years of study behind them think a family home ( designed for 2 adults two children) can make do with only one useable sized room downstairs? I have a hallway, downstairs loo, tiny kitchen and living dining room.
There is no space in the kitchen for even a foldable table and stool so everything has to be done in one room. Kids, dogs, guests, work, dining, tv. It’s nuts.
It’s also supposed to be a“home for life” design with a wider hallway and doors in case someone needs a wheelchair at some and has to sleep downstairs.

I think I live in a very similar house to you! It always amuses me that we have the wide hallway and large downstairs loo for "future proof living" in case of wheelchair access needs but there are three steep steps down to the house so I'm not sure how that would work.

In an ideal world I'd stick a tiny loo under the stairs and then extend the kitchen into the existing loo so we had somewhere to eat other than the living space.

We did appreciate having a house & garden during lockdown as I know lots of people managed in small flats, but we did wish for a 2nd living space when we were getting under each other's feet.

@Mummy1608

In our house we stack all the plates above the dishwasher and then my DH loads it all in at the end of the day while I'm settling DD to bed. You fit more in the machine that way and only get your hands dirty once.

So glad I don't live with someone who takes photos of my untidiness and posts it on the Internet to have a gripe! If you're not compatible then just leave him, life's too short

Blimey. Over reaction to @Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk post!!!

@FFSFFSFFS

Oh is this one of those hilarious lighthearted mumsnet threads where all the women giggle about how men treat them like crap and expect them to be their servants and clean up after them?

Hah hah hah hah. Hilarious.

OP you husband does that because he expects you to clean up after him and has so little respect for you that he can’t be bothered to spend a half a second opening a dishwasher.

Agree , not funny.

How come when I walk past a pile of things on the stairs needing to be taken up or down, I pick them up and take them. No one else does...

I hear you ! My husband doesn’t take off the empty toilet roll tube. He leaves it there and balances a new roll on top of it.
Similarly will leave dirty crockery next to the dishwasher. Or give it a half arsed rinse and leave it on the draining board to leave a sticky ring there. So helpful.

They leave it because they expect you to tidy up after them. I think it shows a lack of respect, TBH

Blue dust. Why is our household dust blue and not another colour?

glimpsing · 29/12/2021 19:24

Oh and where did my wellies disappear to?

randomchap · 29/12/2021 19:27

I also use the put the dirty items on top technique. My DC are too young to fill the dishwasher, but are perfectly capable of clearing the table and piling the dirty plates. When cooking it's also easier to just move the dirty items to above the dishwasher.

I then empty/fill the dishwasher once we've all eaten.

Once the DCs get older then they'll be filling it, but until then this works for us.

DH never replaces lids, on anything, ever. He can take them off, but it's a mystery to him that they need to go back on.
