Just posting for traffic.

Dd age 3 woke up with a bad stomach pain last night just after going to bed. It didn't ease so rang 111 and they sent us to hospital to get checked for uti etc.

Her urine test flagged up a few things, one being her sugar. Her blood sugar was 9.8, she hadn't eaten anything for about 4/5 hours at that point. So we've been kept in so they can re do in the morning.

I'm just so scared she's diabetic. She doesn't have any of the classic symptoms but I'm so worried. The Dr said it can be a stress response sometimes but they're concerned because it was also in her urine.

Just sitting here in the dark scared for my baby girl. Has anyone else had this and been OK?

Could that be a mis-hearing of Sudocrem?

Glad she is perkier and at home.

Glad you’re home and DD seems on the mend.

Was also going to suggest you may have misheard her say Sudocrem? Although we mainly use it on baby’s bottom to help with nappy rash, we’ve also used it for eldest DD if she has an itchy bottom and it does help. (If sudocrem doesn’t seem to be helping, then we’ve found Metanium is the better cream, although it does die everything it touches a bright shade of yellow!)

I found Sudocrem very drying personally, it depends what the redness is being caused by.
Think metanium is supposed to be better, but I use bepanthen ointment for my DS and it clears up any redness on the Nappy area pretty quickly.

My dd was diagnosed aged 3. In the weeks prior she had a virus, stomach bug and uti
Keep an eye on things and get her blood sugar rechecked soon ish just in case as we had a lot of trips to a and e before being diagnosed (by which point her sugar level was 39)

Notsomerryandbright · 30/12/2021 21:17

Ah that could make sense, with my sleep deprived ears and the lovely consultant’s accent it could well have been sudocrem. I really don’t know how I hadn’t registered that. Blush

Yeah I agree @PumpkinPiesandapples, I’ll get some dip sticks and do some random testing over the next few weeks. I do still feel a bit nervous tbh because it was such a curveball

I have a condition called benign glucosuria. Basically have high sugar in my urine (I eat an apple and my urine is saturated), but I’m absolutely NOT diabetic despite a lot of tests.
It’s a benign condition, no ill effects just a slight predisposition to urine infections though I’ve only ever had one and I’m over 40.
It’s quite rare though so if it’s this, she may have to undergo many tests for diabetes throughout her life as I have but nothing to worry about. X
