Science podcasts now ‘gender neutral’ about pregnancy

Listening to the ‘Brains On!’ Podcast about innies versus outies and other pregnancy related facts. Really excited that there was a new (to us), interesting podcast on science for our DC. However, quickly the podcast is all about how a placenta grows within a ‘pregnant person’ etc etc. That phrase was mentioned no less than 20 times. No mention of the fact that it’s actually a woman who has a child. Nope we are pregnant people now. It’s science.

It’s insulting to women and it’s untrue.

Stop listening to that podcast and complain to the producers. People don’t get pregnant.

@Whatwouldscullydo

In some third world countries charities are set up in order TO PROVIDE women and girls with single sex loos/ bathrooms. They know that providing these facilitates their safe access to education/ society

This highlights the racism that's a big part of the ideology. Suggesting that somehow Western men are different and can pee next to little girls and we must allow them to do so.

Men/males are the same everywhere. The attitude towards women is the same across the globe. Western men/males may find alternative ways to control women's lives but but end result is the same.

It’s incredibly racist isn’t it. Not very progressive really.

This idea that we are just " better/superior" somehow is ridiculous.

Look at America and the whole sports teams/college rape coverup scandals.

There's a rape a day at schools in the UK. Including primary schools.

We may have laws around things but realistically rape is as close to legal as you can get really. The prosecution rates are dire.

America has some states where could marriage is legal with parental consent.

We are not different. At all.

Breast ironing vs breast binding. Guess which ones viewed as progressive and look at the demographic supporting it.

Pregnant people, peer on peer abuse, , disturbing missing of students missing school because of period poverty and shaming.

It all hides what's happening and who it's happening too.

W must never e get complacent

And the use of ‘pregnant people’ and such like makes it harder to use accurate language to describe what is going on around us.

And women who nevertheless persist despite the difficulties; highlighting the danger and unfairness of men in women’s sports, women’s rape crisis centres, women’s single sex spaces (ditto girls’ single sex spaces and activities) are told they’re wrong and bigoted to do so.

I don’t understand how more people don’t see this for what it is. How can the women on this thread who stood up for it fail to understand?

Maybe they feel there's going to be some kind if special protection if they are kind enough and good enough to the males in their lives. But no one is going to be there when they are lying in a hospital ward that's now mixed sex.

No ones going to be there to protect them from a 6 ft male in a dark train station toilet.

No ones going to remove that male person from the gym.showers exposing themselves.

They will be on their own with that one.

Or maybe they are just lucky right now. Rich enough ir privileged enough ir fortunate enough to kot need a rape crisis centre or a domestic violence shelter and aren't part if the working class group bow forced into sharing all their facilities.

Its such a privileged position to he in ti he able to remove the word ti describe reality. To not need it.

Interestingly there’s another thread in AIBU currently about sex discrimination in the workplace.

Talking about ‘people’ instead of their sex when it’s directly relevant means that it’s increasingly going to be harder to discuss matters that adversely affect women!

Hopefully none of the women with their luxury beliefs on this thread will require assistance in matters that affect them based on their sex.

Women fought to have differences based on sex to be acknowledged so that the playing field could be levelled, and now they’re being dismantled again. For ‘people’. For ‘gender’ not sex.
