AIBU to have them over even though we have Covid?

I'm not feeling great so brain is all over the place and I can't decide what the best thing to do is!

We have been unwell since Christmas day but due to a lack of LFTs we've not been able to test. We had contact with friends who have Covid so are assuming it is but we don't know for sure.

My DB and family are due to come over on Wednesday. I explained the above. He replied 'I'm not concerned about Covid atall. I think we need to start living with it like any other cold.'

Part of me thinks - well up to them if they want to risk it. Could do with someone coming over and making me a cup of tea/feeding the kids. But would that be really irresponsible?

@Saoirse82

So after you being hospitalised with covid last year and having long covid your brother has called it nothing more than a cold? He sounds like a right dick! You sound a lot more measured and I'm glad you've decided to not have him over because it's clear he doesn't care less about likely spreading it around to people who are more vulnerable than him, some people are so astonishingly selfish! Hope you're feeling better soon OP. I know its a pita to get a pcr when you don't drive.
Thank you

Your dh is unbelievable. Does he want his family to feel horribly unwell? Utterly stupid.

UndertheCedartree · 28/12/2021 14:52

@DrinkFeckArseBrick

Aside from any legal or moral considerations...I'd be really pissed off with a close relative dismissing an illness that had hospitalised me and taken me months to get over, as 'just a cold'!
It did upset me! To be honest, it was those feelings that clouded my judgement a lot as I just thought well if they want to risk catching it they can and then they'll see it's more than a cold!! But it really wouldn't be fair on my little nephew, let alone anyone else it gets passed to through them.

This variant has effected my DC much more than last time. The youngest had no symptoms and eldest only lost taste/smell last time. This has hit them quite hard. Poor little one has Croup.

I know. I mean putting aside everything else and even if they have it mildly why would you want your child to spend the rest of their Christmas holidays with a nasty cough and 'cold'.

I have told them we will not be seeing them. I said it is a horrible illness that we don't want to pass on to them. I also said how passing it on to others especially the little boy of their friend who is seriously ill. He is now offended that I have suggested that he would put this little boy at risk.

I just ordered one off the government website. Was it a home delivery you were trying to get?

Well done OP.

The government website is out of date and there is a campaign by medics to get symptoms updated.

In the meantime if you are unwell and there is any chance it could be Covid then take a PCR and tick the box saying "loss of taste or smell".

No one can prove otherwise and it's better to take a test and protect others.

I hope you recover sooner this time OP, long Covid is awful 💐

Thank you for the advice and well wishes.

It definitely feels more in the upper respiratory tract rather than the lungs, this time. I am exhausted but I'm sure we are gradually on the mend and at least we should be out of isolation by the time the schools go back.

@MolkosTeenageAngst
From their website:
ZOE COVID Symptom Study app contributors are offered a test if they report any of the potential symptoms of the disease.

BitterTits · 28/12/2021 22:49

I don't know what the different symptoms of Omicron are (beyond continuous cough / temp / loss of smell or taste) and my employer wouldn't accept them as a reason to isolate pending a PCR test anyway. I've already had a warning due to isolating for a PCR back in March (teacher).

emmathedilemma · 28/12/2021 22:53

Whether you've got covid or not, if you've spent 2 days in bed and aren't well enough to walk to a test centre then you're clearly too ill to be hosting guests!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 28/12/2021 22:54

Um yeah, on Sky news tonight - a significant number of children admitted to hospital with covid since Christmas day.

Ridiculous.

StFrancisdeCompostela · 28/12/2021 22:57

Yes. What about all the other people your idiot brother might spread it to as he carries on as normal?
