MarineBlue33 · 27/12/2021 21:50

The local one is shut but we have been given so many boxes that (are all in date) I am happy to pass them on if that is something foidbanks want. Asking if anyone here works at one or knows if they would like them
I do give small packets of biscuits but mostly we give basics from their list.

They are fine to donate. Some boxes of stuff gets opened and given out with a cup of tea for the volunteers and service users. If you are ok with that, then donate them.

cadburyegg · 27/12/2021 21:53

Yes, definitely do

KittenKong · 27/12/2021 21:53

Yes they generally take them - or maybe to a local Salvation Army or organisation that serves meals?

Exhausteddog · 27/12/2021 21:54

We often get given lots of packets of chocolates and biscuits at work. There are only 2 of us that work ft and the other person usually says I can have them.i generally take to the food bank. (I give to the food bank most weeks anyway)

Divebar2021 · 27/12/2021 21:54

You don’t think people on a low income wouldn’t welcome nice biscuits or chocolates instead of “basics”?

CheshireChat · 27/12/2021 21:59

Our local food bank occasionally asks for them. Selection boxes were on the list last time for example.

WitchDancer · 27/12/2021 22:03

I volunteer at a food bank and we'd be happy to accept these as a donation. Thank you for thinking of this

Marble2021 · 27/12/2021 22:04

It's a great idea

PuzzledObserver · 27/12/2021 22:05

I get things for the food bank sometimes when I go to the supermarket and leave them at the collection point - I believe the supermarket tops up the value if you do that.

I make a point of buying nice stuff, not the cheapest. Before Christmas I put biscuit assortments and selection packs. Why shouldn’t people who use food banks have treats, the same as everyone else?

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/12/2021 22:05

They'll be happy to take them. I try to give something nice when I give a bag of requested items.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 27/12/2021 22:07

I donate fancy chocolate biscuits and/or chocolates to the food bank point sometimes instead of just the usual pasta, tins etc. I like to think some people will get basics and also a treat when they visit the food bank.

gogohm · 27/12/2021 22:14

Yes do, they give tea and biscuits to clients when they arrive hear too

Divebar2021, food banks dont take everything. It's not ridiculous to ask first...🙄
WorraLiberty · 27/12/2021 22:36

Most food banks have their own websites/contact numbers.

You can ask them directly.

Shallwegoforawalk · 27/12/2021 22:39

Yes they would be appreciated at our Foodbank. Service users here get a set bag of the "basics" and we try to also meet any requests (toiletries, san pro, pet food) but we also have a table where they can choose an extra treat. Nice chocs and biscuits would definitely be snapped up!
Thank you for thinking of those in need.

tapeandglue · 27/12/2021 22:41

Depends on the food bank. Often, there will be an 'extras' pile of things food bank users can pick up in addition to the items that are supposed to come in a standard bag.

Any Trussell Trust food bank won't accept items containing alcohol, so be careful about donating things like Christmas pudding or boozy chocolates.

MarineBlue33 · 27/12/2021 22:41

Thank you. Will save the boxes for when they open.

I have some Christmas chocolates and biscuits I am thinking of donating too

Maryann1975 · 27/12/2021 22:43

Our food bank would accept this kind of thing. They tend to get to know their Regular clients and those going through an extra bad time or those with a birthday Or special occasion this week, So would drop a special treat in for them.

Pallisers · 27/12/2021 22:43

I also volunteer at a foodbank and we would definitely use these. Like Shallwegoforawalk we give a set bag, a bag of extras (rotates according to the week - oil or sugar with milk and fresh fruit), toiletries or tea/coffee or cleaning supplies depending on the week, bread and cakes and then put stuff out on the extra table.

We would probably keep some of the biscuits and chocs back for families we knew had children and make sure they got them.

Badabingbadatinselbum · 27/12/2021 22:45

Definitely. Anyone having to use a foodbank will be missing 'treat' food. Foodbanks often pack stuff like like that as extras as Christmas.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 27/12/2021 22:53

That’s good. I have a box of chocolates I don’t need, will pop over with them when they open.

Thepineapplemystery · 27/12/2021 23:08

Yes do it. All our Christmas food that's not been eaten and is still in date will go - crisps, nuts, snacks, chocolate, biscuits etc. I often collect food parcels for our patients and they often include a 'luxery' item.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/12/2021 23:15

This is a great idea, I’m going to do that too now I’ve read this!
