To wonder why I didn’t get engaged this weekend?

(Lighthearted because knowing me I’ve probably got totally the wrong end of the stick)
Last week I stumbled across a ring box hidden away (I honestly wasn’t snooping I just accidentally found it while putting something away). Obviously I didn’t say anything. But now we’ve had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and no proposal.
I’m just baffled generally tbh as we’re not that type of couple, we’ve always said when we want to get married we’ll just start planning it together. We’ve had quite an up and down year with covid obviously and DP got ill in the summer, but we also had our first successful pregnancy so I thought maybe he’d decided to make a big gesture. But nothing.
Has he changed his mind? 😂
Was it not actually for me? 😂
It’s so silly I just keep laughing at myself. What’s going on?? 😂😂

He kept me waiting ALL day 🙄 Tbh I definitely thought I’d be waiting a while yet 😂 It got to 8 o’clock this evening and I’d just finished feeding the baby when he pointed to the little ledge at the top of our staircase which you can see from downstairs and asked me what was up there. Genuinely didn’t even have an inkling that this was it so I just said I couldn’t see 😂 Then he said he’d lift me up to reach it which I just thought was odd because I could just go up the stairs to get it but I went with it so he lifted me up on his shoulders and I got a paper bag down from the ledge and gave it to him (starting to realise now 😂). He took the bag, took the ring box out of it, got down on one knee and asked me 🥰 I did my best surprised face and said yes then he laughed and said “you found the box in the drawer didn’t you?” so I confessed everything to him which he found hilarious 🙈 He said he didn’t have a set day planned, he just wanted to do it one day this week between Christmas and new year and when I nearly went in the drawer last night he knew it would have to be today 😂
The significance of lifting me up to the ledge sounds ridiculous but it’s something he’s always done since we got together because he’s so much taller than me and back in July he collapsed with an almost ruptured appendix (idiot!) which led to sepsis which has had a long recovery time and obviously wiped out all of his strength and energy for ages and today was the first time he’s lifted me up on his shoulders again since before all that happened.
And yes the kitchen light was off last night 😂

The ring is perfect, he knows the kind of thing I like and he bought me a special ring a few years ago at a significant time in our relationship that I wear on that finger of my other hand so he knows the size. I don’t want to know how much but I know it won’t be that much as we don’t have a lot of money to spare and I’d hate for him to spend loads on something like that.

My DP hid my ring in the bread maker on top of the fridge for months and months on end. He couldn’t decide when to do it that was be special but not too cheesy. He settled on my first Mother’s Day after DD was born. I did wonder if he would do it that Christmas before and he didn’t and like you I was just on edge every day until long after the New year began, then Valentine’s Day came and went and j on was confused (we’d been ring picking together a while before so semi-expected a proposal soon-ish) - honestly I’m glad he did it on Mothers Day, not too cheesy although still a nice day to celebrate 🥰 it will happen!

@Grumpysister yes he knows, I told him everything 😂 I’ve talked about him on threads before so he knows he doesn’t really have any privacy 😬 He’s glad he didn’t leave it any longer and have a bunch of angry women turn up at the door 😂
