For a recipe app try Paprika. You can cut & paste recipes in but it has a browser in it that will ‘screen scrape’ from lots of recipe sites, newspapers, BBC good food etc. I’ve been using it for a few years and have 326 recipes in mine. Can add your own tips and notes. Useful also to have ingredients list with you when in supermarket.

Can also rate and categorise the recipes and make up your own categories.

Interesting thread! I like the idea of non fiction, summarised, since a lot of content in many non fiction books with some good points is padding.

You can try it I think for 7 days

Blinkist is cool you can pick a book like

The history of God

And they do a summary of the key points of the book.

Yes it's better to read the full thing but sometimes you want a snapshot before reading entirety.

BriocheForBreakfast · 27/12/2021 22:57

I like Copymethat for recipes but it keeps getting dropped from the App Store. If you're on a web page for a recipe you can add it to the app using the share button - CMT has its own button in share.

I use an app called Headway for listening to Non-fiction. My library also has heaps of free audio books, so when I have time I listen to the full book!

HardStareBear · 27/12/2021 23:32

I didn't get on with Paprika (and a couple of other recipe apps) but I love Whisk. It means I can keep all of my recipes together (you can manually input them or copy from online sources) and there are lots of communities that you can join to share recipes. It lets you meal plan and build shopping lists too.

I've just downloaded this - it looks brilliant, thank you!

I love Notion. It can do anything really and I use it for notes, recipes, gift lifts, to do lists, budgeting etc. It's free.

Onceuponatimethen · 27/12/2021 23:45

If blinkist works by AI is it reliable? So eg does the bible become…the light was switched on. Then a man built a boat after a lot of rain fell. Etc

Lennon80 · 28/12/2021 00:11

Seek

Identifying app for plants fruit etc when out with kids it’s useful

pinkgin85 · 28/12/2021 00:13

Dashlane, I never have to try and rememebr a password

Stocard; never have to carry loyalty cards!

Irishgene · 28/12/2021 00:17

Isn't that free on the back of the book?

altforvarmt · 28/12/2021 00:26

It's not AI. A person reads the book and summarises it into a 15-minute read. It's handy for those productivity books with a handful of really useful ideas but takes 15 chapters to get to the point.
CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/12/2021 00:27

I tried Blinkist when it was first advertised and thought it was rubbish. The content was laughable, all the self help bollocks. So I deleted it and forgot all about it till someone recommended it to me earlier this year. I’d totally forgotten the details of it, even the name (it left that much of an impression huh? Grin) but was intrigued by the person tell me they use it “because I wanna get clever.”

So I had another trial and it all came back to me how crappy and self-help orientated it was. And now I totally view it as an app for people who don’t have the intelligence to read a book and absorb it, but who want to blag to people at parties they’ve read such and such a book, to make themselves look clever. I don’t trust people who use it, frankly, and think they’re all style over substance type people.

Dozer · 28/12/2021 08:47

Some odd assumptions there, curlyhairedassassin Grin

LtGreggs · 28/12/2021 08:53

Plan To Eat - it's a meal planning and recipe saving app. It's brilliant. They also do a long free trial (a month I think) so you can give it a proper go before buying. Only slightly hmmm was that I bought in October and then it was half price on black Friday. (I hate stupid American black Friday! Just make it a dollar cheaper all year round...)

Wow what a massive pile of judgeypants.

I really like Blinkist. I read it for an overview of a range of opinions and don’t think I have ever bothered to mention having read them to anyone else. I have a first class degree in literature so can probably manage to absorb the odd actual book from time to time.
