Been reading a bit about them and sounds like something I may trial.

Does anyone take them and if so can you sense any difference from taking them?

Minionbums · 26/12/2021 18:31

Would anyone mind sharing which ones they use please?

tellmetologoffIamaMNaddict · 26/12/2021 18:56

I ran out recently and my insomnia immediately came back. Got some more in and sleep problems have gone away.

Aworldofmyown · 26/12/2021 19:03

I get these and have taken them for about a year now with great results.

@tellmetologoffIamaMNaddict

Which ones do you take?

Pedalpushers · 26/12/2021 19:49

Been taking them for a few weeks to help me sleep better and unfortunately they seem to have made it worse.

Curbaisti · 26/12/2021 20:34

For sleep?[/quote]
It seems to help a bit with sleep alright, has to build up in your system. I only notice it works when I stop taking it thinking it does nothing. I wonder why I'm a bit more antsy, if that makes sense. I like the passion fruit flavour, like a little bedtime ritual. Its nice

SylviaTrench · 26/12/2021 20:37

What others have already mentioned, seems to have stopped my aching joints, but also I don't grind my teeth any more while asleep.

crazyjinglist · 26/12/2021 21:34

They helped me sleep but gave me awful stomach pains. My DM also tried them and they made her so ill that she was in bed for several days. They really do not agree with some people! I tried using the spray you use on your skin instead. Still gave me stomach pains!

tellmetologoffIamaMNaddict · 26/12/2021 21:36

I am not actually sure. I think the first time I just bought some from Tesco and more recently Amazon. Tbh had no idea there was a difference. It was when the Tesco ones ran out that i noticed the insomnia returning.

AnotherMansCause · 26/12/2021 21:40

I've taken them for years for chronic migraines. I take the cheap magnesium oxide ones - they do interfere with your digestion at first, but it goes away eventually. They're one of the cheapest things that makes a difference to my migraines. About £3 for 3 months worth.

Nivealove · 26/12/2021 22:13

Leaving that below- which gives suggestions about that types of magnesium's to take. Join the Mag group on Facebook.

What is best for sleep?

Pythian · 26/12/2021 22:35

@Nivealove would you mind sharing the link that says why citrate isn't recommended? Because I take that one and wasn't aware of any potential issues!

Nospringchickendipper · 26/12/2021 22:40

I use The Holland and Barrett magnesium sleep spray one and I do sleep better.
It has stop the cramps I was getting in my legs.

TurquoiseDragon · 26/12/2021 23:00

I take a general multivitamin and mineral tablet that includes magnesium, and also use a cream at night that contains magnesium. My sleep is generally getting better. I'm also working on making my diet more healthy.

Allsorts1 · 26/12/2021 23:06

Yes they changed my life with regards to sleep and digestion. Help me sleep and have reduced my digestion issues - I used to get very painful sore tummy after certain foods but haven’t been bothered since taking magnesium. Make sure you’re taking magnesium citrate - there is one with a yellow lid in Holland & Barrett’s that’s great. Take one or two before bed.

Yes! I will share this in a moment. Brb

Directly copy and paste from an article- but the authors view are the common reasons why taking Magnesium Citrate is not recommended:

Valerie Engh - How Citrate affects Ceruloplasmin

Mg citrate will NOT raise your Mg RBC level. My husband and I took Mg citrate for a few months and our Mg RBC levels nosedived!! Since our goal is to increase our Mg RBC, we immediately changed to a different kind of Mg and then our Mg levels began going up again.

We are also trying to increase our ceruloplasmin, so when we read the study that shows that citrate destroys the enzyme function of ceruloplasmin, that was another huge reason to stop taking Mg citrate forms of Mg, including Calm.
[Ascorbic Acid, but not wholefood vitamin C, damages Ceruloplasmin.
http://www.jbc.org/content/239/10/3570.full.pdf
Magnesium citrate, and other forms of Citrate, damages Ceruloplasmin
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8696078]
Ceruloplasmin is very important for the regulation of copper and iron and it is needed for getting unbound copper and unbound iron out of our brains to prevent neurodegenerative "diseases" such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, MS, SZ, etc. and out of our liver, intestines, heart, bone marrow, etc.

Ceruloplasmin is also required to make heme and hemoglobin and it is also require to load heme into hemoglobin. Ceruloplasmin is needed for our immune system to be strong and for regulating gut bacteria. Cerulplasmin is required for hundreds of functions. People who believe they are anemic are actually anemic in Ceruloplasmin.

Ceruloplasmin is critical for good health. Destroying the function of ceruloplasmin is not a good idea, so just beware and know what you are doing.

I recommend that people should watch Morley Robbins' youtube videos on copper dysregulation/ceruloplasmin and read through earlier posts and comments by Morley about ceruloplasmin and iron dysregulation, etc. The Ideal level for serum ceruloplasmin is 33 mg/dL

Do you know what your serum ceruloplasmin level is? Morley also has articles on his website about iron dysregulation (lack of ceruloplasmin) at gotmag.org

PS - the Copper Dysregulation podcasts text is also in "Braggin' About Maggie" on

Does anyone know what the maximum dose is you can take in a day? I have some but also take a Wellwoman multivitamin and was worried about taking too much of I took them together.

LilyRed · 26/12/2021 23:54

I take Mag. Glycinate 200mg capsules (from 'Your Supplements' ) 1 or two a day.
I take various BP and heart tablets which gave me terrible cramps, since taking the caps, my cramps are gone, my bruxism (teeth grinding) has stopped and my nerve pain is far less (tenosynovitis and trapped nerves from cervical spondylitis).

rosewater20 · 26/12/2021 23:58

I take magnesium taurate a couple of times per week before bed for heart palpitations and leg cramps/restless legs. It does seem to really work. I also trying to have a glass or two of mineral water with high magnesium rates per day too.

DotBall · 27/12/2021 00:05

I use Magnesium Glycinate (Best Immune brand) and it helps with sleep and cramps. Very easy to swallow capsules.

Don’t forget that a cup of epsom salts in the bath can be an excellent way to absorb magnesium. If I’m having disturbed nights, this gets me back into a rhythm.

CatDogAlpaca · 27/12/2021 00:10

I started taking it after the gp suggested it fir electric shocks on my arms. Does the trick. Also seems to ease my son's anxiety.

Cocolapew · 27/12/2021 00:17

It's also good for heavy/crampy periods, my DD saw an improvement taking magnesium.

Pinkchicken85 · 27/12/2021 00:32

My mid wife recommended magnesium chloride for constipation.
You can buy it in sachets from the pharmacy and dissolve it in water. It is the most disgusting thing to drink but works quite well.
