Made to get off the bus

I was out today with my son, he had his scooter with him that has led light up wheels, it’s a push along scooter that ride with your feet, the lights on the wheels are powered by batteries, he is only 7. We wanted to get on the bus and the driver asked me if it was an electric scooter, I told him that it wasn’t and walked onto the bus and put my buggy in the pram area then put the scooter under the pram basket, the driver then got out of the seat opened the door and followed me down the bus, he told me it was an electric scooter because he “saw lights” I told him that it wasn’t and that it was powered by batteries, he was having none of it he refused to acknowledge it wasn’t an electric scooter, it’s only a tiny scooter and my son is only 7 there is no way it even looks like an electric scooter. All he kept repeating was an electric scooter because of the lights and told us to get off the bus! He refused to look at the scooter for me to show him it wasn’t. It was pouring down with rain and dark outside but he made me and my children get back off the bus or he wasn’t going to move. I felt really intimidated and got off the bus, even as I was getting off with my children he was pressing to shut the doors before my 4 year old had got off nearly trapping her in them, as I got off I told him I would be making a complaint so went to the front of the bus to take a picture of the license plate, at that point he came out the driver area again and open the bus doors and started shouting at me, I got a very good picture of him aibu to make to find his behaviour shocking?

I cannot believe people are actually saying he should lose his job. Fucking hell, I hope you, your husbands, whoever lose their jobs. That's all you deserve.

RedCandyApple · 25/12/2021 11:30

I’m not particularly hoping he will lose his job but I definitely want him given a warning and for it to be taken seriously so it never happens again, it was only a few months ago that the police was telling women to flag down a bus if they felt scared of intimidated by anyone... seems it’s the bus drivers you need to be scared and intimidated of! Throwing me out onto the streets in the dark and rain with small children, when he was wrong is unacceptable, I tried to show him the scooter he refused to even look at it.

@RedCandyApple, I think you are near me, I saw your fb post. He was being a complete jobsworth!! The weather was terrible and it was Christmas Eve! Definitely report him, by phone and email

WinniesHunny · 25/12/2021 11:44

[email protected] is the Stafecoach CEO's email. That is where your complaint begins, not at local level.

Guavaf1sh · 25/12/2021 11:45

Go to the local paper

frugalkitty · 25/12/2021 11:49

Definitely complain, that's awful. I've complained to a local bud company recently after my DD has twice not been let off at her stop but taken a few stops past. What happened to awareness of girls/women travelling alone? I got a response that said they'd investigate but not be able to tell me the outcome due to privacy laws or similar. Hope you're ok OP.

TowandaForever · 25/12/2021 18:07

@frugalkitty

That's the kind of reply I get from stagecoach. I don't think they take any action.

OP has every right to complain and expect action to be taken.

Throwing a mother with young children off a bus because you have made an obvious mistake and then shouting at them is probably worthy of at least a written warning I reckon.

However, if he does lose his job it will be because the driver's actions have amounted to gross misconduct. That is entirely on the driver and no-one else. Can't say I would have huge sympathy for him if he did.

If my husband yells at people over his own mistakes then gets aggressive at women and children he’ll lose his wife as well as his job.

People have the power not to get themselves sacked. Do you think I enjoy people screaming at me that I’ve ruined their Christmas because their delivery didn’t arrive on Christmas Eve because THEY ordered it too late? No I don’t. Do I scream at them? No, I don’t. I follow appropriate procedures and behave like a normal human.

Sadly not everyone can act like a cunt at work and be safe from consequences because they married the boss' daughter.
ExtremeIroning · 25/12/2021 23:23

@RedCandyApple
You do need to complain and show the photo. It is unacceptable and goes against TFLs safety policies. Quote their "Every Journey Matters" slogan. They say on their website:

We will put our customers at the centre of everything we do by providing a high-quality service to everyone who contacts us
We want to hear from you, as we value every piece of feedback we receive
Your feedback can take the form of either a comment or suggestion, and may be an expression of your satisfaction or a complaint about our services
We are committed to being accessible to every customer and will provide you with a timely, clear and full response
We will listen to your feedback and take action to improve your experience in the future

Namelesss · 05/01/2022 12:09

What a dickhead.

BorderlineHappy · 05/01/2022 13:11

@RedCandyApple did you complain and did they get back to you

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 05/01/2022 13:16

What next no eggs in your shopping incase you throw them at the bus?
He sounds a knob and maybe he isn't in the right job.
Maybe on the doors at a football match would suit him.

gunnersgold · 05/01/2022 13:19

I have one of thr large scooters and I often scoot about on it as an adult , I walk it through town next to me . The amount of dirty looks and tuts I get is ridiculous. It doesn't have a motor ffs . You can see me scooting with my legs ! I think people have gone made about those things !

Swirlywoo · 05/01/2022 14:28

If it is a TFL bus then I would write to TFL.

Sportslady44 · 05/01/2022 14:42

what did the other bus users do or say?

strawberrymilk7 · 05/01/2022 15:20

I hit YABU by mistake. He was completely wrong. I hope you complained.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 05/01/2022 15:27

@Georgeskitchen

Disgusting behaviour he should be sacked
No he should not be sacked, but he does need a talking to by his employers.

Another example of a man bullying a woman. It Has To Stop.

Carpetmoth · 05/01/2022 16:29

I wonder what his attitude would be to a mobility scooter or electric wheelchair? I can't be a thing against batteries as a pp suggested.

Swirlywoo · 05/01/2022 18:06

Buses are required by law to be accessible so I imagine letting a mobility scooter or wheelchair on a bus would be legal obligation.

Triplecheeseplease · 05/01/2022 18:40

He sounds like an arsehole. Definitely complain.

In my experience stagecoach are quite helpful. Me and my friend were sworn and shouted at by a driver once, we complained and the bus had cctv with sound.

It was found in our favour and the driver received a disciplinary which could result in losing his job. They weren’t allowed to tell us the outcome, fair enough.
