Made to get off the bus

I was out today with my son, he had his scooter with him that has led light up wheels, it’s a push along scooter that ride with your feet, the lights on the wheels are powered by batteries, he is only 7. We wanted to get on the bus and the driver asked me if it was an electric scooter, I told him that it wasn’t and walked onto the bus and put my buggy in the pram area then put the scooter under the pram basket, the driver then got out of the seat opened the door and followed me down the bus, he told me it was an electric scooter because he “saw lights” I told him that it wasn’t and that it was powered by batteries, he was having none of it he refused to acknowledge it wasn’t an electric scooter, it’s only a tiny scooter and my son is only 7 there is no way it even looks like an electric scooter. All he kept repeating was an electric scooter because of the lights and told us to get off the bus! He refused to look at the scooter for me to show him it wasn’t. It was pouring down with rain and dark outside but he made me and my children get back off the bus or he wasn’t going to move. I felt really intimidated and got off the bus, even as I was getting off with my children he was pressing to shut the doors before my 4 year old had got off nearly trapping her in them, as I got off I told him I would be making a complaint so went to the front of the bus to take a picture of the license plate, at that point he came out the driver area again and open the bus doors and started shouting at me, I got a very good picture of him aibu to make to find his behaviour shocking?

We ended up having to wait 20 mins for another bus in the pissing down rain, luckily the second driver didn’t have a problem letting us on and didn’t say anything (we’ve never had any trouble before) we was too far to walk and anyone in London will know how awful the rain was today, the batteries are no different to any of the toys I bought today for Xmas that I was carrying home on the pram, most of them had aaa batteries in!

I would complain. If he realised he had made a mistake he needs to learn how to back down.

JacquelineCarlyle · 25/12/2021 00:17

I would absolutely complain - he treated you appallingly and I don't imagine he would have behaved the same way had you been a man, and that gives me even more of the rage.

Mamamia344 · 25/12/2021 00:23

Lovely, please make a complaint and see it through. He will get in trouble for this. I'm sorry this happened to you x

Mumsgirls · 25/12/2021 01:20

Why did you get off. We have to stand up to bullies like that man and protect our children. Hell would have frozen over before I would have moved my kids and I would have phoned the bus company. I know some people find it hard to stand up for themselves, but what are we teaching our children

Nanny0gg · 25/12/2021 01:23

@sleepyhoglet

Wonder if he is on the spectrum and doesn't understand. You certainly need to flag this. So unreasonable. Had you paid for a ticket as well? I would be fuming and would have tried to refuse to leave. I wonder what the other passengers thought
You what?

He can pass a driving test, the theory test and the bus test but he can't understand fairly straightforward rules?

How does autism come into it?

He's just a jobsworth

Nanny0gg · 25/12/2021 01:24

@debbrianna

There are signes everywhere now saying no electric scooters on the underground due to fires caused by scooters. OP, the batteries are the problem.
There is a difference between the battery required to power a scooter and the AA jobs that power lights
HappyDays40 · 25/12/2021 02:15

"On the spectrum " Hmm

Good for you thinking you’re a match for a man. Or perhaps you are a man and don’t get it at all. Op was upset and intimidated and had young children with her.
autieok · 25/12/2021 04:22
@sleepyhoglet "wonder if he is on the spectrum"

What, in the OP, gave rise to the idea that the driver might be autistic? There is NO indication of that.

Once again, people struggle to distinguish between "autistic" and "arsehole". It's so fucking depressing. Sad
It gives autistic people a bad name!

autieok · 25/12/2021 04:24

@Annike4

Bus driver made a mistake, so you are going to get him sacked so you feel powerful. He's probably taken abuse all week from people refusing to wear masks, abusive drunks etc. Get a life :(
If it's a one off he would be unlikely to get sacked but may benefit from some training? She's not lying she's describing a real situation that happened. There should be a consequence for that.
RedCandyApple · 25/12/2021 08:46

I realise now I shouldn’t have got off the bus but my children felt scared and was getting upset, my son now doesn’t want to take his scooter out anymore even though I’ve told him he can. Look at the bully, waving his hands around, also you can see the bus was pretty empty so we didn’t even have anyone who could stick up for us, I felt intimidated and threatened

Made to get off the bus

RedCandyApple · 25/12/2021 08:48

Oh he even asked the man who got on behind us if it was a e scooter, I think he though we were together but the man just shrugged and said he didn’t know, he then went upstairs, so I think once the driver realised I was on my own he could become aggressive

OP posts:
Hotyogahotchoc · 25/12/2021 08:53

Complain

And let us know the outcome!

mycatisannoying · 25/12/2021 09:29

Dreadful x

R0tational · 25/12/2021 09:37

Driver should not be allowed to work in customer service. Poor you OP.

He won't get sacked. He will have a different version of events, and will say he got the scooter rules wrong and might get a slap on the wrist.
RedRobyn2021 · 25/12/2021 09:56

That's absolutely disgusting

I can't believe no one else stepped in and told him to back off

I'm so sorry OP, you absolutely should make a complaint

RedRobyn2021 · 25/12/2021 09:59

@Annike4

What is wrong with you?

I hope he does get the sack

I don't really give a flying fig about his week, it's unacceptable to chuck a woman and her small children off a public bus into the dark, pissing it down with rain - at Christmas no less!

Then follow that up with being aggressive and abusive

No. Unacceptable. And if I had been their on the bus I would have told him so. He is a bully.

RedCandyApple · 25/12/2021 10:03

He can have a different version as much as he wants but the cctv will show what happened, he opened the cab area followed me down the bus, started shouting at me and waving his arms around, told me to get off the bus, pressed the doors open I walked off, then he pressed the buttons to SHUT the door before my 4 year old had got through them causing her to almost get trapped in them, then went back into his cab area I told him as I was getting off I would be making a complaint so I went to the front to picture the license plate number, at this point the CCTV will show him getting back out Of the cab area opening the bus doors and shouting and waving his hands around again. So he can tell whatever version he likes but all that is on cctv

Bet he wouldnt pick on a youth bearing an electric scooter on the bus. Also I it could be folded you could have taken it on board as "goods" or a package

Tal45 · 25/12/2021 10:12

There are some really lovely bus drivers out there but some are just complete twats.

itsgettingwierd · 25/12/2021 10:20

@Hearwego

He sounds over zealous ,but sacked? What would that achieve? Have one less person to drive buses ( isn’t there a driver shortage?) Sacking a working man on Xmas, so put him on the dole and take more money from taxes Ian the right answer... I think he should be reprimanded and told off and the OP given an apology, obviously once why’ve heard his side too. I don’t like this idea that the public think they can sack someone so easily !
I don't think people should want him sacked.

But then again he's not exactly valuable as a bus driver if he refuses to drive people because he can't tell the difference between an electric scooter and flashing lights run in a battery in a child's scooter.

Perhaps he does need a job elsewhere where he actually has some skills for the job he's doing?

I'm sorry about this. Sorry you felt intimidated by someone who wouldn't even consider they were wrong and abused you further when it was very clear they obviously were.

RedCandyApple · 25/12/2021 10:37

Honestly if he can’t tell the difference between a kids scooter with flashing lights you know like the type you would use in a torch, and an electric e scooter then should he even be in charge of driving a bus?

OP posts:
growyourownjam · 25/12/2021 10:43

Put in a complaint. Hopefully he will be disciplined or lose his job.
