Pushing in or not?

united4ever · 24/12/2021 12:56

So I waited in the queue for 10 minutes to get in a cheesemonger. Got in and bought a few things. Within 10 seconds of exiting I realised I forgot the main thing I came for. I went straight back in the shop and bought it. Few sarcy comments on the way out. Should I have gone to back of line?

I did ask the cheesemonger who just served me if he wants me to go to back of line but he said don't do that and served me within a minute.

I would class that as pushing in, I wouldn't have even asked the cashier if they wanted me to queue up again, I'd have automatically done it.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/12/2021 13:01

Yes it is. I’d have gone to the back.

bonfireheart · 24/12/2021 13:03

Queuing for ten mins at Xmas isn't long so yes back of the queue

Stormbraver99 · 24/12/2021 13:04

I would have headed back to the start of the queue.
It's the right thing to do, and also not worth all the huffs, puffs and tuts.

DrManhattan · 24/12/2021 13:04

I'd have queued up again

bonfireheart · 24/12/2021 13:04

Tbf I remember being pregnant and being told by staff to come to the front when I was prepared to wait and oh my the very vocal grumbling from everyone who could see how pregnant I was haha.

Shamoo · 24/12/2021 13:14

I wouldn’t consider that pushing in at all.

Hoppinggreen · 24/12/2021 13:16

Yeah, that’s pushing in

DixieSun · 24/12/2021 13:19

Yes I would have told you to join the queue if I'd been there. I hate people who try and push in

cuddlymunchkin · 24/12/2021 13:19

Yes, that’s pushing in.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/12/2021 13:20

I agree with you.

WabbitsAndWeasels · 24/12/2021 13:20

I think as you actually left the shop (albeit for seconds) then you should've rejoined the queue. I imagine the cashier just wanted to get on with serving and as you were there they served you. I work in retail and at the point at Christmas I just want to get the day over with and go home and the less input needed from me the better. Fortunately I'm not working today so actually get to relax. I can completely see why people in the queue were a little irritated both by you jumping the queue again and being forgetful in the first transaction (lists are your friend).

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 24/12/2021 13:21

If you'd forgotten something in the supermarket after paying, would you have just gone to the front of the line?
Of course it's pushing in.

gamerchick · 24/12/2021 13:21

Yes it's pushing in and brave today of all days. You should have gone to the back.

FSVin · 24/12/2021 13:22

I probably would have been annoyed if I'd been in the queue, but only because I was already grumpy from being in a queue. Rationally, it makes sense that you skipped it since everyone in it knew you'd already waited your turn and you'd been gone all of ten seconds. I would have done the same depending on how bold I was feeling that day.

PizzasPlease · 24/12/2021 13:24

You pushed in.

Pinkdelight3 · 24/12/2021 13:25

Course it's pushing in. You literally left the shop then came back and pushed in. Unless you had a time machine and went back to when you were at the front of the queue. It's on you that you forgot/don't use a list.

Bagelsandbrie · 24/12/2021 13:26

Definitely pushing in.

480Widdio · 24/12/2021 13:27

Yes you were pushing in! Why did you think this was acceptable?

CathyorClaire · 24/12/2021 13:30

Ten seconds is enough time to get a fair way away from the door so it wasn't 'straight back in' and you were indeed pushing in.

Take a list next time.

Nesbo · 24/12/2021 13:31

In my opinion if you really think someone who honestly forgot something and realised just as they were leaving the shop ought to go to the back and queue all over again you’re a bit of a twat.

Why can’t people just be pleasant to each other rather than approaching everything like it’s one big kill or be killed competition.

And at fucking Christmas as well when you’re supposed to be showing goodwill to people.

TeeBee · 24/12/2021 13:32

I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if someone had done that. Some people are very highly strung. I wouldn't have wanted you waiting in a queue again. That's just silly.

OneTC · 24/12/2021 13:33

You did nothing wrong

TeeBee · 24/12/2021 13:33

Nesbo, I totally agree with you. Can't we give people a bit of leeway? It's Christmas!!!

tapeandglue · 24/12/2021 13:33

If you'd paid for something and left it on the counter, not pushing in.

If you'd forgotten to ask for something and not paid money for it already, pushing in.
