How would you feel if DH referred to you when talking to DC as "your mother "

Not sure if bring overly sensitive. (4th baby recently arrived) I think it's tetchy. Prefer eg mummy

YABU - It's fine. Relax!

YANBU - It's not nice

YABU
I think you might be a bit sensitive after newly arrived baby, or did this always bother you?

girlmom21 · 22/12/2021 12:25

He'll only ever to it in jest to wind me up

I don't know if he did it before or not. Grin

He doesn't always do it now but if he does it's annoying me. Haven't said anything though as not sure if it's me being sensitive-hence this poll!

"Am I looking forward to Christmas dinner? Well your mother is making it, so..."

"Hmmm can you have another biscuit? Ask your mother, she's in charge! Grin"

Two very different vibes. It totally depends how he was saying it. Could be playful, neutral, rude - just depends on context and tone of voice.

DropYourSword · 22/12/2021 12:32

Entirely depends on context.

Me and my DH often call our son “the boy” when we’re texting or talking, which might sound awful to some people but it’s meant extremely affectionately!

GiltEdges · 22/12/2021 13:10

Wouldn't bother me at all, but then again I can't stand being called "mummy" and am very much looking forward to 3YO DS growing out of it. If it gets substituted for "mum" that will be even worse 😱

Chickens0up · 22/12/2021 13:11

Literally wouldn't bother me in the slightest, you need to chill.

mistermagpie · 22/12/2021 13:12

I don't really know what you mean, as in 'I don't know, ask your mother'? If that's what you mean then I don't see what the problem is...

What do you want him to call you? Mother? Does anyone actually call their DM mother??

Do you don't like mummy or mum? What would you prefer? Just being nosy!
smurfsss · 22/12/2021 13:16

YABU.

OGenkiDesuKa · 22/12/2021 13:16

My husband says “your mum” when talking to our kids and I say “your dad”. What else do we call eachother? Our poor kids on the other hand get called all sorts. The boy, the worm, that thing upstairs, the small man, the ginger one, miss thing etc.

YABU

gogohm · 22/12/2021 13:26

Exh says it when disciplining the kids, particularly as teens. Eg show respect, help around the house etc

gogohm · 22/12/2021 13:27

@OGenkiDesuKa

Mine regularly gets called the other ones name!

rainyskylight · 22/12/2021 13:45

Couldn’t get worked up.

“Daddy can we do X this afternoon”
“Hmm. Did you ask your mother?”

“Mummy, can you buy me X”
“Ask your father”

Pretty standard when I was a child, and we’re already mock saying it with DD 13mo.

FlamingoQueen · 22/12/2021 13:51

I am assuming he used ‘a tone’ in saying this. That would then make me cross.
If you don’t like it - ask him not to repeat it!

Malibuismysecrethome · 22/12/2021 14:17

“Er indoors” or ‘Princess’

GiltEdges · 22/12/2021 14:24

@lynntheyresexswappers
@mistermagpie

Ideally mother, or my actual name. I vary between referring to my own DM as "mother" (my preference) and "mum" (her preference).

Cocomarine · 22/12/2021 14:33

I think you need to explain what he actually said.

We called ours 'the boy' for three years, until we had another boy and had to start using actual names!
