How would you feel if DH referred to you when talking to DC as "your mother "

Not sure if bring overly sensitive. (4th baby recently arrived) I think it's tetchy. Prefer eg mummy

YABU - It's fine. Relax!

YANBU - It's not nice

But you are their mother Confused

Dh says mother or maman.

Lightswitch123 · 22/12/2021 15:08

It's more like

"Kids- Go and see if "your mother" is free yet "

Maybe it's more the tone..

I'm currently pregnant with our first, but both my wife and I already refer to each other as 'the other mother' when talking to our cats, and will no doubt continue to do so with the baby. For example I said earlier, 'I'm on a call for work, go and ask your other mother for some attention'. They usually do as well, we find it funny. It depends on context. If it makes a difference, neither of us will actually use 'mother' as our name when the baby can talk.

You want him to say mummy? I’d cringe myself inside out if I heard my husband say that, he generally says mum when refering to me when talking to our daughter, if he said mummy my toes would curl so much I’d need medical attention.

I hate "your mother" too. It makes me think of very aloof Victorian type relationships. Probably because FIL/MIL who are very distant use it.

Houseofmirth66 · 22/12/2021 16:58

I prefer to be called by my first name. However, we sometimes refer to our children as the dark haired one or the curly haired one to keep it simple.

girlmom21 · 22/12/2021 17:18

@Bluntness100 she said she doesn't like mother. Not that she wants to be called mummy...

girlmom21 · 22/12/2021 17:19

Sorry @Bluntness100 I re-read the OP Grin

GirlOfTudor · 22/12/2021 17:26

There are bigger things to be annoyed about.

LuaDipa · 22/12/2021 18:16

What do you want him to call you? Mother? Does anyone actually call their DM mother??

I call my dm mother.Blush It began in my difficult teenage years and seems to have stuck.

I would absolutely hate dh to refer to me as ‘your mother’. Wouldn’t have been opposed to mummy when the kids were small but we’d all laugh at that now. Yanbu though.

icedcoffees · 22/12/2021 18:21

It's absolutely fine!

It actually makes me feel all nostalgic as it's how my dad always referred to my mum when I was growing up. He still does it now actually and I'm 33 Grin

Last time I rang them, he answered and after we'd spoken, he said "I'll go and get your mother shall I?!" and it just made me smile :)
