I know I'm probably a minority in MN land but I love my in laws (probably more than I love my husband!) and can't wait to spend Christmas with them!

Just hoping to share some positivity amongst all the inlaw/MIL hate this season with stories of the good ones!

My PIL are amazing. Looking forward to spending Christmas day with them.

My mil and I had a bit of a rocky start (she thought I'd lured her little boy away from returning home to NI and made him stay in Scotland- which I didn't, he'd already decided he was never going back) but after we got married she eased off and then I produced 3 gorgeous grandchildren and now we're good friends.

She arrives tomorrow for Christmas, staying till next Tuesday. She'll make her lovely pavlova for Christmas Day, and top us up with trays of her lush red cabbage for th3 freezer over the next few weeks, and give thoughtful presents to the children, and me, and get dh's present more or less totally wrong!

Sadly, FIL (they're divorced) is now in a nursing home with rapidly advancing dementia, so we won't see him. My parents aren't coming on Boxing Day as they're afraid of COVID so are staying home. They get on well wi5h mil so that would have been nice, but they're very nervous, so I have to respect that.

I am the very same, so love my in-laws and the really make Christmas for me. Last year it was just me and the husband and I really missed them.

FreedomFaith · 22/12/2021 21:50

I like my in laws too. I think they prefer me to their son Grin

My DPs father died when DP was in his teens. His Mum is lovely however he is from a European country so we've not seen them at Christmas for 2 years now. We did manage to get over there in the summer.

He has 2 older sisters & loads of cousins and they're all close, all now have children and usually we try to get over there min 4 or 5 times a year so we've missed them all masses due to covid.

I love mine, they are absolute gems. Kind and always helping, interesting too. They also think I’m really great haha, which helps.

I like my in laws too! And DP always looks forward to seeing my parents so good ILs all round here!

SantasGotABigOne · 22/12/2021 22:35

Me too. I feel so fortunate that my in laws are just amazing and I love them to bits. They are great role models for their grandchildren and they have a positive relationship with their own children. I sure hope I'm like MIL when I become a grandparent.

caringcarer · 22/12/2021 22:37

My dh says his Mum loves me more than him. I get on really well with her. I love her because she has from the moment she met me and my dc always treated my children equally with her own biological dgc. They love her too.

slaybell · 22/12/2021 22:47

I love my MIL. She lives abroad and usually goes somewhere even more exotic for Christmas (pre-covid), so we always spend Xmas with my family. Though I wouldn't mind spending it with her!

FrangipaniBlue · 22/12/2021 22:50

I love spending Christmas day at my in laws!

In fact, this morning as DH was taking an LFT because he was feeling unwell, I told him in no uncertain terms that if it was positive I was still going to his parents and would bring him Christmas dinner back plated up😂😂

@Dontgetyerknicksinatwist

I wish I had nice in-laws and posts like this make me realise what I’m missing out on. Unfortunately I can’t change my mil or her partner so rather than be dutiful, put up and not complain, I have chosen not to spend time with them anymore. If that makes me negative and a bad person then so be it but life is too short.
Agree @Dontgetyerknicksinatwist! DM and DH get on like a house on fire 🔥
