WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS WRONG WITH TOMMEE TIPPEE BOTTLES????!!!!!

Not an aibu but I'm seriously at my witts end and need help!!! Does anyone know what can be done to stop Tommee Tippee bottles from leaking? We have the anti colic ones plus the standard bottles and the bottles leak non stop. Especially when we're making bottles and have to shake for 10 secs to mix the formula.

Somehow we've been dealing with this for 7 months but are now expecting a second and I can't be dealing with this nonsense day to day. If no one has any suggestions on what to do to stop the leaking, is there any other bottles that you'd recommend? Please help!!

@Franca123

Two problems spring to mind. The two bottles types you mention require different teats. I know I bought the wrong teat once and it always leaked. Secondly, are you putting the stem in hot water? This can cause an air bubble and a leak. These bottles drove me crazy until I realised the mistakes I was making.
@Franca123 thanks for responding. Both bottles have the correct teats and we don't get them confused or anything. As for the second thing, this may sound silly but what do you mean am I putting the stem in hot water? So we'll boil the kettle and let the hot water cool for 30mins then make bottles with the stem in? So it's definitely getting into contact with very hot water. Don't tell me that's not how you're meant to do it or something???

Another one saying get mam bottles. I f-ing hated TT bottles with my first colicky baby. Mam bottles are just so much better.

user1471519931 · 22/12/2021 00:07

Drove me insane when milk would spill all over the baby, and worse - the bed!! Gave me the absolute rage!!! FFS tonnes tippee, you literally had one job! Switched to Mam and was happy.

Franca123 · 22/12/2021 00:15

We use a perfect prep now most of the time. But I know if I hadn't let the kettle water cool enough before putting the stem in, it would leak.

Franca123 · 22/12/2021 00:15

I seem to remember there being help available on the tommee tippee site. Think that's how I worked out our problem.

Franca123 · 22/12/2021 00:17

It used to send me over the edge!

HolesInMySocks · 22/12/2021 00:27

Mam without a doubt. Also self sterilising in microwave. No need for steriliser. I brought 10 for our 3.5 year old when born. And we re used for our next dc. They're still going strong. Down to 2 though as not needed as nearly 2 years old except to hide his medication in milk.
I then passed the other 8 on minus the teats and my friend has been using them a while too.

UrsulaBursula · 22/12/2021 00:29

Never experienced a leaky TommieT bottle.

The only time I got leakage would be when shaking the bottle and the milk would spray out the teat. But the way to avoid that is to pinch the teat whilst shaking

Danikm151 · 22/12/2021 00:33

Pinch the air valve to make sure it’s open. This can help with leaks. 🙂

SassyPants87 · 22/12/2021 00:46

This happened to me all the time!! So I switched to MAM and never had the issue again

MiloAndEddie · 22/12/2021 00:54

I used those, never had a problem with leaking except when I didn’t use the perfect prep and the water was too hot. Used to explode then!

SimplyAmy1 · 22/12/2021 06:21

@Footballschmootball

Hated those with a passion! They leak and also I always found the teat sort of sucked in so you had to keep poking the side of it out! MAM ones are infinitely better, get those instead and burn the Tommie tippees!
I agree!! I messaged tomee tippee about them as they claim to not leak and they said I hadn’t screwed the lid on properly haha
Bubblty · 22/12/2021 06:26

Are you making them with just boiled water or letting it cool a bit first? Where is the leak coming from?

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 06:27

Ah sorry just saw you are letting water cool 30 mins

sbhydrogen · 22/12/2021 07:20

I hated the Tommy Tippee bottles as getting the lid on properly was so much hard work. Too often I thought the lid was on and boom! Turns out it wasn't and milk went everywhere.

GuidingSpirit · 22/12/2021 07:50

Omg, we have this exact problem with the TT anti colic bottles. Awful. Which is a shame as all the other TT stuff we've had has been good. We've switched to Nuk at home, which are great and a small stash of Mam self sterilising ones at my mums.

Peas252 · 22/12/2021 07:58

We had the anti colic ones, and they were a pain for leaking, but we found that they only leaked if the water was too hot. Try letting the water cool more.

Also, using a swirling motion to mix the formula, rather than a vertical shake helps.

VainAbigail · 22/12/2021 08:10

The anti-colic bottles are notorious for leaking. We had 2, both did it. Even with the lids screwed as tightly as possible. I ended up wrapping them in a muslin to use them to absorb the sticky leaks.

FlamingoDust · 22/12/2021 08:45

We never used the anti colic bottles but did use Tommy tippee. Sometimes they used to leak when I hadn't put the teat in correctly. When they are leaking open and check the teat is fully lined up with the rim of the plastic bit it goes into

chinabumps85 · 22/12/2021 08:59

Thanks for all the responses and advice guys, trust me we've tried everything!

It seems that the water inside of the bottles may be too hot and that's what causes the leak but I thought you're not meant to let the water cool any longer than 30mins???

I'll definitely be buying a different brand when the new baby comes along. I can't be dealing with this!

If you have the normal ones and the anti colic ones, does that mean some of the lids have white rims and some have green? If so, then when they get mixed up they leak (and the bottles look the same so it's hard to tell). Can you experiment at some point with different combinations? We eventually identified which bottled went with the white edged lids and threw the rest away.

Absinth13 · 22/12/2021 09:55

We used these for a bit, found that of you stir with a spoon to dissolve powder, leave the bits and bobs out until you are actually using them, the heat causes some sort of vacuum. When you are about to use them then put the inside bits in. It's a faff but worked for us

Franca123 · 22/12/2021 10:49

Buy a perfect prep. 10 or 15 pound second hand on Facebook.

alexio · 22/12/2021 10:53

I haven't use the tommee tippee anti colic but I have use Dr brown with the straw/stick in the middle and they were awful for leaking. I emailed dr brown and they said the water may have been too hot causing the plastic to expand but it never made a difference what the temp was. Ended up getting rid of them because it was a mess everytime and switched to mam

IKissedSantaClaus · 22/12/2021 10:54

Mam are great although we bought a new microwave and they didn't fit inside as they were too tall! So couldn't self sterilise then and had to stick with sterilising bags. So check that.

Perfect prep is a lifesaver - loads of second hand ones floating around.
