Do you still love your wedding dress?

weddingdressregrett · 21/12/2021 21:58

I'm recently married and we have just received our wedding pics.

Really dislike how I look in my dress and my hair. Already!

Do you still look back and love how you looked?

OP posts:
hettie · 21/12/2021 23:02

Yup, got married in a silver and blue silk Prada cocktail dress.... Absolutely rocked.... Love that dress still

MegsHollyJolly · 21/12/2021 23:05

I still love my dress, I love my hair too but it didn't hold the curls well through the day due to the weather so I always wish I had it all up instead of some up and some down as later in the day it looked a bit messy.

CaptaNoctem · 21/12/2021 23:09

Actually yes I do - it's very 1980s but quite low key for that era

Gertie75 · 21/12/2021 23:10

I loved my dress and still love it 13 years later, I still put it on sometimes and swish around the house in it.
I liked my hair and make up too because I did it myself, I wanted to look like me on my wedding day and not have heavy make up and a cheesy up-do with tousely bits at the side like most hairdressers seem to want to do.

What is it you don't like about yours op?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 21/12/2021 23:10

Yep. Still love my dress 6 years down the line. Never looked better although it wasn't a maintainable weight. Wish my hair was different but still love looking at photos

weegiemum · 21/12/2021 23:10

Yes, looking back 27 years. It's a bit of a meringue but it was 1994! We all had dresses like that. Mine was made for me by one of my best friends and that makes it all the more special. I wore my hair down and had a poofy veil, and looking back at the photos all I can see is how happy (and young! We were both 24) we look.

floatinginmyhomie · 21/12/2021 23:11

I do, I’d wear it every day if I could

dustybluebell · 21/12/2021 23:12

Nope. Donated mine to charity last year. It was far too plain and I only got it as saw it when out with MIL and she saw the price tag £55 in Debenhams, and she said 'oh please let me buy it'. We were trying to keep wedding costs low, I kind if felt obliged as she'd offered. Wish I'd been more assertive and refused her 'generous' offer.

abstractprojection · 21/12/2021 23:13

My dress yes, hair no. We got married at a lake and it was unusually heavy with mist which it go from boho shabby to frizz o clock. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who thinks this though

Kite22 · 21/12/2021 23:15

Yes.
I mean, I obviously wouldn't choose the same style if I were getting married tomorrow - the decades roll on as does my body fat .Fashions change, but I loved it then, it suited me, and looking back it just reminds me of a lovely day surrounded by everyone I love. So it is partly yes because it was a lovely dress and partly yes because it represents such a lovely day.

HunterGatherer · 21/12/2021 23:15

Yep, dress was a boat necked ballerina style, very classic, very plain. I was a size 10 and looked amazing. 28 years ago now!

Jengnr · 21/12/2021 23:22

Love my dress. Don’t especially like how I looked but I never do. My friend (who does not mince her words) told me I was radiant, and I’m inclined to agree.

Would I wear a different dress if I did it again? Yes. But that’s because I loved wedding dress shopping and found a few dresses I liked before I found this one :)

slaybell · 21/12/2021 23:24

@AJ1425

Still love my dress 7 years on. Didn't love my hair even on the day.
Same.

I wanted it loose and DM convinced me to have an up do which really isn't 'me' and I hated it. Love love love my dress though

FlyingPandas · 21/12/2021 23:30

I still love my dress, bouquet and wedding hairstyle nearly 20 years on. In fact if I was getting married next week I'd choose the same. Sadly I probably couldn't fit into my dress now (was a size 8 when I married and now a 12-14) but I still love it!

HobgoblinGold · 21/12/2021 23:31

Hate how I settled for my dress and I hated my hair on the day.

VaulterTech · 21/12/2021 23:31

Oooh yes! Only 6 years I guess though, Jenny Packham dress, would wear again in a heartbeat!

Chickydoo · 21/12/2021 23:37

30 years ago, my dress was stunning, still love it. Was elegant and fitted with a huge train and long lace sleeves. I was thin though BMI was 17!

VVKills27 · 21/12/2021 23:43

I can honestly say that 10 years after the event it’s still the most perfect dress for me & I love to remember that I looked that way…perhaps it’s to soon for you to appreciate how gorgeous you looked, maybe in a few years you’ll look back at your photos more fondly. I’m sure your guests thought you looked beautiful.

Frazzledmummy123 · 21/12/2021 23:44

I still absolutely love my dress, however my hair and make up was awful on the day, and I don't look anywhere near as glamorous as I would have liked. I was too nervous about the day to say anything at the time, but the hair and make up woman didn't do anything near what she did at the trial. Looking back I really should have said something

GaolBhoAlba · 21/12/2021 23:49

I got married in 2002, and the style then was all strapless. So mine wasnt a dress, it was a corset with very minimal lace detail around it, a long (only very slightly flared) skirt and a fitted lace wrap. And yes I still love it - and its a nice reminder that I once took being a size 8 completely for granted (I am not a size 8 anymore!). I loved my bouquet most though tbh, it was really beautiful and bright (burnt orange, purples, reds).

WasgijGods · 21/12/2021 23:53

@Okbye

Omg yes I LOVE my dress (married in 2011) I want a vow renewal just so I can wear it again 😄

It's our 10th anniversary next year and I'm thinking of hosting a party just so I can do this!

JaceLancs · 21/12/2021 23:58

Was ambivalent about my dress but it was cheap and best I could find at the time
Later hated it and wished I’d stuck out for what I really wanted
Now nostalgically it was of it’s time (late 80s Dynasty shoulder pads shiny satin power dressing)
I’ve seen much worse - I was younger, thinner and happy (at the time - divorced now)
DD is engaged - wedding date arranged etc - we go dress shopping soon - I’m more concerned about her happiness than THE dress - but will pay for whatever she chooses if it makes her feel amazing

HibiscusIsland · 22/12/2021 00:04

Yes. It was 21 years ago and I don't think it's aged badly as it wasn't meringuey

CounsellorTroi · 22/12/2021 01:11

@Happycamper78

No. 30 years ago now but the style didn't age well - big meringue dress and hair nothing like I asked for. But I don't think about it, I remember it as a wonderful day!
Snap!
PoshPyjamas · 22/12/2021 01:52

Oh god no. I was trying to be frugal, and this was 100% polyester Designers at Debenhams. I looked like I was at a cheap day at the races.
