How many sprouts in a portion.

I think six minimum. Google thinks eight. Realistically I think I go for ten or even a dozen.
Obviously, other factors like glazed in balsamic, cooked with pine nuts or butter is a factor.
But for the sake of experiment, let's say these are plain, salted with gravy available. In addition to your full Christmas dinner.

How many sprouts is acceptable?
Yanbu-not more than eight!
Yabu- eight is not enough!
(Yes, I realise the answer is none if you are a sprout Grinch!)

4-6 tops!

Spermysextowel · 21/12/2021 21:48

I’ve never let my mother forget Christmas 2016 - the year of the Sprout Dearth. Just 4 each…. I think she’s doing 10-12 each this year. Any that are left I’ll take home & eat cold dipped in melted garlic butter for Boxing Day breakfast.

ItWasAgathaAllAlong · 21/12/2021 21:49

I love sprouts! I've been grabbing a couple of handfuls every time I've been shopping for veg since they've been available! I'm 5he odd one out though. So while I'd happily say 10-12 are fine on my plate, the rest of the family won't eat them Xmas Sad

Sprout season is fab!

itwasntaparty · 21/12/2021 21:49

4!

EdinaMonsoon · 21/12/2021 21:49

I think 8-10 per adult. I love sprouts & at Christmas will always cook 3 times as many as necessary so I can make 2 pans of Boxing Day Bubble & Squeak: 1 to eat & 1 to freeze.

itsgettingwierd · 21/12/2021 21:49

My nephew would think 10 wasn't enough. He's only 9 and loves them.

The rest of us won't touch them except mum.

So he'd say 10 per person (80!) and he'll share with nanny - the sprout nut Grin

TheNextCaroleMiddleton · 21/12/2021 21:50

6 per person knowing that only I will be eating them! 36 for me then 😊😊

MyPatronusIsASnowman · 21/12/2021 21:57

As I have told anyone who will listen this week, on the Sainsburys website it says 15 sprouts are classed as one of your 5 a day Xmas Shock

How many sprouts in a portion.
BlanketSky · 21/12/2021 21:58

4-6 I reckon if other veg.
DD (age 7) though, she wants to beat her sprout record, which is ten... Grin

MyPatronusIsASnowman · 21/12/2021 21:59

Just noticed that says baby sprouts so maybe Xmas Grin

MrsMadderRose · 21/12/2021 22:04

I'll eat at least 10 because I love them. But if I was being cooked xmas dinner by someone else, I'd happily accept 8.

One of the great things about being a sprout lover is other people hating them - so if you do 8 per person, the sprout lovers will end up getting more.

The cold leftover sprout is the sprout of kings. DELICIOUS. Also bubble and squeak is lovely. I do vast amounts of sprouts and potatoes so we have plenty for B&S.

ponkydonkey · 21/12/2021 22:11

@EatYourVegetables

I hate sprouts and have come here to make the mandatory “zero” joke, which I see has already been made.

But this thread revealed a new level of awful for me… LEFTOVER sprouts?? The only flavour worse than the sprout - COLD, old sprout Envy

Me me me I'm with you there absolutely ZERO sprouts Bloody awful
FlibbertyGibbitt · 21/12/2021 22:18

Went on work’s Christmas dinner two weeks ago, shocking to say NO Brussels were served at all. I’ll never return EVER.

uneffingbelievable · 21/12/2021 22:21

There is no limit - cook enough for Xmas Day and Boxing Day and double for one person -you can not go wrong.

mrsm43s · 21/12/2021 22:26

I love sprouts, and with a normal, everyday meal, I'd say about 8 as a good portion. But on Christmas day, when there's so much lovely stuff, and so many different vegetables, I'd probably only have about 4, so I can fit in a taste of everything, and enjoy pud and a cheeseboard. I'll munch on cold, cooked leftover brussels from the fridge in the evening though! I've bought 1kg of sprouts for 6, hopefully that should be about right! (Plenty of leftovers!)

santabetterwashhishands · 21/12/2021 22:28

About 5 on my plate but I love cold sprouts the day after 😋

WinterCarlisle · 21/12/2021 22:30

ALL the sprouts. King among vegetables

tearinghairout · 21/12/2021 22:54

@LadyCatStark

I only eat food on even numbers so 6 for me.
That's interesting - I came on to say that it has to be odd numbers! It would be five sprouts for me. DH worked in a Spanish restaurant and I remember the boss saying that the tapas was always odd numbers (e.g. five slices of cheese).
Bluntness100 · 21/12/2021 22:56

I’m genuinely astounded anyone counts and portions sprouts. I’ve seen it all on here now. We shove them in a dish, help yourself or not.

Scarby9 · 21/12/2021 22:59

Everyone is throwing out numbers with no mention of the size of the sprouts.
Hazelnut?
Walnut?
Last year, our Christmas sprouts weee ping pong ball sized.
Normally, I would say 6 for a portion with the full festive dinner, but the masdive sprouts last year put paid to that.

Bunnyfuller · 21/12/2021 23:08

5 is plenty, I like them, there’s just a volume issue with Christmas dinner in terms of the number of veg choices on offer. It’s sort of a desert spoonful and a bit of each for me.

Carrots cauliflower cheese red cabbage broccoli sprouts, parsnips live with the potatoes

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/12/2021 23:20

6
7 cherry tomatoes is a portion right?
So 6 sprouts for Mrs average
maybe 8 for penis portions
10 for the proud farter

comfortablyfrumpy · 21/12/2021 23:21

Love sprouts.
The more the merrier!

Friendviv1987 · 21/12/2021 23:22
